That is all taken care of. You answer all those questions when you do your arrival card online. They collect all data needed like hotel etc. even have a pre populated list of all hotels so it comes up as you start typing…

Again just link to passport. They have those readers already to scan passports at the baggage carousel in Australia when they are fast tracking. All linked to passport makes it easy. We could copy their system easily and adapt for our needs.
Because the people who come up with these rules, and most of those who enforce them, are brainless idiots. Right up to the current PM who rolled out these rules in the first place.
Now I do wonder if the same bottle would have been located and required to be surrendered if it was in your pocket at the time ??? What is in your pocket is unlikely to be located during a carry-on bag search. Obviously a bottle of water on your person (in your pocket) is not a security risk, while the same bottle in your carry-on bag is a problem.
Don't I know that! That's what I do when I return to New Zealand. And yes, they scan the passport and look at a screen!
When you enter Australia and use the e passport screens, you’re asked several questions relating to where you’ve been and then you’re issued a ticket that you then need to scan before clearing immigration so the scanning system is already in place. Most countries ask you to complete a customs declaration online and that declaration is linked to your passport number so that when you scan your passport on entry you’ve already given the information that the Australian paper dec cards ask for. You then proceed to the customs area and scan the code you’ve been issued for customs, which you can either print or have on your phone. It’s not that complicated.
Been there, done that several times! I look forward to entering via BNE as it makes things so simple. However, one time I amended my electronic declaration to avoid secondary screening but they ignored my change. so I was sent, briefly, to secondary screening, and just passed through. (It was contact with rural areas in last 30 days. Since I was tramping in the alps I said yes but then I recalculated and it was 32 days). If I had filled in a paper declaration this wouldn't have happened. It shows that you can't really change an electronic declaration once you have completed it.
