What do you want/expect on board?

It is a security requirement that on Australian domestic flights, the curtain isn't closed.

This is odd. I also noticed the closing of the curtains on flights since about early Dec 09. However, its very random. In the same day ADL-PTH closed but PTH-ADL open.

I prefer them closed even though most of my flying is in Y

Strangely I'm +1 to that as well - but I have no idea why

All my domestic flying is Y and I prefer the curtain closed. Weird!

As a Lifetime QP member I support this view, and with the number of LT members I doubt whether allowing this to occur would cause any undue effect on other pax that can use the Business Lounge.

If you think the QP's are basic, I encourage you to go visit US AAirline Lounges. One AAirline in PAArticulAAr. We have it pretty good here!

Agreed, have been the AA lounge in ORD twice, and I think that was once too often, but it does allow you some peace when you want to catch up on your PC. Will be using some of the AA lounges in August again, so will see, and apart from what I said above I do have a 2+ hr transit in ORD again.

You have no need to be reminded of where you'd rather be seated? ;)

Also, if you're in the first few rows of Y, it feels 'more private' for lack of better words, if the curtains are closed. Probably comes back to what it does feel like to be sitting up the pointy end:)

For me, it isn’t a physical thing that I expect; it is more of an attitudinal thing.

If the CC don’t have anything to do, then hanging out in the galley is OK, but just wander up and down the aisle occasionally to make sure everything is OK. And also, if you want to gossip in the galley, do it discretely! I am so over listening to inane **** emanating from the galley because CC don’t realise that they have a loud voice and that noise travels!!

I would also love to see CC drop the ‘precious’ attitude. Yes it is only a few of them, but the ones who think that they are special or ‘too good’ just make a flight even harder.

As with any good service industry staff, the more that you are NOT noticed, the better you are. Treating people how you want to be treated etc, is good too. But that can go for some pax too!!

As for special treatment for certain FFs, forget it. Too hard to manage and will probably cause drama with other pax.

Thanks for the interest!

G'day mate,
For most part, the attitude of the FA is what most passengers remember after the flt. If the FA is rude/unfriendly, this vibe is picked up by passengers and thats what they talk about all the time. Equally if the food/drinks are limited, but the crews do all they can at 35000 ft to assist, passengers feel appreciated and valued. Understand food and drinks services are set by the company but the attitude of the crews are their own making. I guess as long as the FA's are welcoming and not in "i am doing you a favor by letting you in the plane" attitude, travelers like me would be happy.

I totally agree! The last international flight we did with Qantas was a disaster. Flying from HKG - BNE. The FAs looked as if they just got out of bed and were just as grumpy. One looked if he was was coming down from a benda, what a mess. Half way through the night flight I asked for a bottle of water, you could have sworn blind I had asked for $1m loan. I received an abrupt no you have already had one. I suppose I could have had an alcoholic drink but I don't drink the stuff. On the other hand we have flown OS with Singapore since that encounter and the service has been fabulous. The FAs are immaculately groomed and are they to serve you no matter if you are in zoo or 1st class. One trip an Aussie had chucked up all over the loos, the FA gladly cleaned it up. I could have imaged the response if it was Ms Cranky Pants from Qantas, she would have made the passenger clean it up. Even though we have FF with Qantas we will fly Singapore when we can.

I guess we could have a whole thread about this issue by itself.
I vote for another reclining thread? :p

There are some of us for various reasons, i.e. a vague attempt at comfort really must recline. Yes on international flights I pay for J but for work domestic it is and always will be Y. Sadly I have to recline to get a modicum of comfort. Never during meals but other times, sorry but I'm going backwards.
I guess some of us will continue to suffer. :( I cannot recline, as my ankylosing spondylitis and sacroiliitis do not let me, and I have to sit upright and sometimes lean forward to even be remotely comfortable. How about swapping seats? ;)

Getting OT but I really struggled sitting in the new coaches in Greece. All have a fixed recline of 20-30% if not more. The only way I could be comfortable was to lean forward and for support had one leg in the aisle and held on to the hand rail of the seat in front.

Umm, I have a method to deal with recliners.

Step 1: Hold the back of their seat as they go back. Usually they have no idea and assume that it is fully reclined.
Step 2: lean forward, head on the back of their seat and sleep. I find leaning forward to be comfortable on my back and also allows me to get off a crowded armrest. My snoring is also probably rather annoying coming through the back of the seat.

I save any more thoughts of the new reclining thread. But really the topic highlights the diversity of people that we should celebrate.

Sorry, but you paid for lifetime access to the QP, and the QP you shall have. If you want to access the J lounge, buy a J ticket, or qualify as a WP/OWE.

Just back after flying J class from HKG to BNE. I don't sleep on flights so after many hours into the night I went up the back of the business class cabin to grab something to drink and maybe munch on while I tried in vain to see something watchable on the IFE which kept coughping itself. Absolutely useless. Probably better than having to watch what was on offer anyway.

The QF website says on A330-300 flights just help yourself to a drink or snack at our leisure.

Went back there for a bit of a walk and to get water and what may be on offer, and the reaction from the 2 FAs was "What are you doing here?????? We gave you water two hours ago."

I really dislike being regarded as an inconvenience and naughty brat after paying my own $$$$ when looking for a bottle of water and a bag of whatever. Next time I'll use the call button or maybe another airline. So bloody annoyed.

So you should be annoyed - and report those FAs on that flight.

Geez this is getting waaaay too common for comfort or coincidence. :(

I have really enjoyed reading the thread and the similarities of others' views with mine. I appreciate the replies from 737 when he/she can.

As some here know, I was previously married to a QF International CSA and then subsequently had a number of domestic and international FA's as girlfriends (yes, I was doing too much travelling back then), so I would often debate some of these issues with them.

Now I am an eternal optimist, so I see getting the FA to smile or chat as a challenge, whether male of female. An honest smile and a heartfelt "thank you" go a long way. It desn't take much effort to help FA's make it a pleasant flight experience.

As a Lifetime QP'er, I would actually disagree with the expectation of being given access to the J Lounge. That wasn't the expectation when it was purchased and would be devaluing the Plat or purchased J experience.

There are always other parts of the overall door-to-door process that I would like to see work better, like baggage tags and getting the bags off in order.

In J? Really? I know there can be attitude, and have seen this in whY but never up the front.

Seat 2A. Business class paid for with my own cash. No company account paying my way. So it matters.

Never got to see what was in the treasure trove of drinks and nibblies at the back of J class. Some flights better than others and as I mentioned above a while ago it depends on the crew. Not just for elites but for all flyers. Hey treat us all OK and we'll be back.

About to book a trip back to Europe in business class and considering not using QF for any legs. This attitude just happens way too often. Too much to spend for just a bit of room on a plane. Other carriers offering better and cheaper.

Received my gold renewal letter and card before it was added to my FF account saying I had not done enough travel but here's what you mean to us. Onward bookings would have let them know I would retain gold status anyway and easily.

Sooo jetlagged. Why is it dark here when my watch says 4.27 pm? Wanna go back to Paris.

Another lifetime QP but I joined up in 1992 and my estimate of cost for qp visits is about $2.20 so I really dont think they owe me business lounge access.Another individual thing again.

The appropriate response is "Wow, a round of the cabin every two hours? You're earning your sixty-grand a year, aren't you?"

+1

Lifetime QP for partner and myself, averaging about $150 per visit (don't fly often) after combined outlay of about $7000 in 2004.

The eurpoean trip we bought it for literally paid for itself on the return journey when we had a 9 hour wait between our FCO-LHR and LHR-MEL flights had a ball, met lots of travellers, saved $ on having to take a train into london buy food and beverage waste time till the flight, it was worth every penny.

But when we do fly the lounge access we signed up for is what we like and we have the access for life, only complaint is the bar opening at 2pm make it midday!!
