Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yes the requirements to keep the curtain closed recently changed and can now be closed on the 737 and on twin aisle aircraft the left side curtain can also be closed.

You'll always be greeted by a glance of the boarding pass on a QF flight - not only is it nice, but it's also an additional security requirement of Qantas. No boarding pass or ASIC - no entry to the aircraft!

Also on a side note regarding metal cutlery - you can except it by the end of the year as they won't be introduced until current supplies of plastic knifes are depleted.

I found that QF excelled on my BNE-TSV (5F) trip with all middle seats blocked from row 1 to 6 on a 737/400. All forward pax to row 6 were offered a newspaper and a refill tea/coffee.

On return today my OLCI row 16 shocked me but I was able to relocate to 7A. When bag dropping I was asked if an exit row window would suffice, which I accepted gladly.

Now I've just finished the QF survey and totally bagged the baggage priority system, or lack of it.

It's great to see a staff member wanting to improve the service. If all flight crew had this attitude the Qantas experience would be improved greatly.

Generally on long haul, I find the service better than most other airlines. I'm not worried about being recognised for my FF status - just a genuine welcome is all that is needed.

Checking in and assistance from the Service Desk is where the improvement is required. The Club Lounges in Australia are great but the actual check-in etc leaves a bit to be desired.

My pet issue in the air is - luke warm tea and coffee. There has to be a way to get water hotter so that you can have a real cup of tea.

Qantas should give this crew member a promotion !!

The most appreciated actions by staff are those aimed at minimising the annoyance of the loud inconsiderate minority, and maximising the comfort of the well-behaved, well-mannered, quiet passengers who do not impinge on their neighbours. Quiet, considerate passengers are the real elites, and they should be appreciated and treasured.

A flight attendant can make a great difference by requiring the noisy and unruly to tone it down. Point out to loudmouths that it is not necessary to shout in order to converse with the person beside you. Stop the children of the selfish from wandering up and down the aisle.

A general announcement at the outset that seats should be not reclined except for medical emergencies would also improve the flying experience immeasurably.

It is good to see the attitude of 737 however most of the posters seem to want more.

On each flight we pay for what we pay for and higher levels of frequent flyers seem to want more but Qantas already awards them with more points etc with tier status, so I think for them to expect free drinks is just being greedy.

I am a lifetime Qantas Club member and flew with QF domestically in Y for the first time in three years. For the last three years all flying was international and most on SQ becaus I cannot open jaw with them in China or Asia at a sensible commercial level. Say into Shanghai, out Guangzhou and on to Medan in Indonesia. I was shocked at how basic the Qantas Club was and I would like to see, based on the comments from lounge staff, that Lifetime members be allowed access to the Business section.

I calculated the number of visits I have made when flying Y and so far the Lifetime mebership works out at $112 per visit.

Er .. you lost me there. The seats are designed to recline for a reason. It's v inconsiderate to recline at meal times, but other than that - I see no reason not to use the facilities provided to me.

I'm guessing I would always be stuck behind someone with a medical emergency

Frankly, i do not expect much more than offered at the moment, but newspapers/ mags and drinks are of course welcome. BUT the biggest issue i have is what happens on the ground. Many years ago in the old Compass days. i had to travel to Perth from Melb. I was not looking forward to the usual luggage shuffle at check in, and when i entered the terminal it appeared it will be there for at least 30 minutes. While waitin line, a fellow with a pair of Compass overalls was walking aroungd the check in and asked me if my single case was all i had and was a travelling alone. When i said yes, i was delighted when he pulled out a luggage tag, attached it to my luggae and said "go have a coffee and check in at the gate. This one incedent left a lasting impression which i have shared with many friends. Excellent service indeed. Other carriers could learn from this. This alone would influence my decision on carriers.

+1

There's no way i'm going to be on a 14 hour MEL-LAX flight and not recline my seat either.

All that is required is, as notzac says, not having seats reclined during meal service, and gently reclining your seat, not just slamming it back. It's very easy to knock over a cup of hot steaming coffee or snap a laptop.

Common Courtesy is lost on most air travellers it would appear. That's all that's really needed.

EYE CONTACT !!
I find that on most Flights, quite a number of the Crew have developed the "I can't see you" syndrome !
As they move up and down the Aisle, you try to catch their attention but they don't want to know by staring ahead and pretenting to have no periphiral vision. I am one of those people, despite spending a lot of my life flying, that doesn't like to press the Call Button.
Other than that, I agree that priority Boarding for Emerald and Saphire is a good idea, if possible, I always get acknowledged by name when Boarding so that is very nice.

Privacy - I pay for it and expect it.

Incorrect.

You can expect it but you are on a public transport vehicle - fat chance you are going to get it in earnest. You do not pay for it either (aside from privacy provisions that prevent your personal information from being disseminated without your notice, blah blah blah etc. you get the idea).

There are social conventions and some laws in place which you can hopefully expect of pax in order to respect your personal space (e.g. you will not be assaulted, if you do not want to listen to a gossiping pax you do not have to, if you don't like being insulted or having racist remarks being thrust upon you, you can expect not to have red wine spilt all over you (unless you caused the accident) etc.)

If you want to pay for privacy, hire your own jet.

O/T side note:

Can we just let Bang4Buck explain what is meant by "paying and expecting privacy" and let it stand instead of seeing disappearing posts?

Looks like I just completely misunderstood what was said, although the brevity and lack of explanation surely made it difficult to derive the underlying context.

This is the third time I've typed responses to this thread? Perhaps the invitation will make this reply ok?

I pay for privacy - meaning I pay (from my pocket) for F on 3config planes and for J otherwise. I select flights using aircraft types (e.g. use seatguru for herringbone (fish) layouts) meaning I am seperated from other pax. I appreciate this privacy, and often pay dearly for it.

On F routes, I use airlines given their F inflight configs; I don't particularly care for lounges or other off-flight benefits. Why; I appreciate the privacy in flight (I rarely travel with my partner).

Surely someone else here knows what I'm talking about?

FYI forum - I received an email in my account about why my previous posts were deleted and it seems fair enough.

Welcome to AFF 737.

I really cannot fault Qantas domestic.

Qantas international is a different matter. I would like some consistency in the service. Some flights are good, there are many bland ones and then there some poor ones. Unfortunately I seem to have hit some of the poor flights recently which is not a nice experience.

  • Simple things like IFE not working and reporting it to CSM who mentions it may require a reboot. Still nothing and then reporting the fault to a number of FA's who all said they would get back to me and just continued to ignore me and/or my request. I did not expect them to fix it but when you tell a passenger that you will get back to them that is what I expect will happen.
  • I hardly ever use the call bell so a few times through the flight I go to the galley and ask for a drink. I don't particularly like it when an FA reacts rudely to my request. I did not mind so much when there was 2-3 galleys, as I would go to another other galley next time, but now on some 747s there is only one galley
I the last 6 years I have come across some great CSM's and FA's and they can make the difference between an ordinary flight and a great flight. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and I have nominated many of them for the eXcel awards and I got a call from Qantas recently thanking me for my feedback and that one of my nominations has been nominated for the eXcel award.

Also would be nice if Qantas allowed Platinums to again pre-allocate exit rows free of charge.

It is a security requirement that on Australian domestic flights, the curtain isn't closed.
Curtain was closed on a 738 SYD-BNE flight last Sunday night.

Even if reclining meant that you made the flight extremely uncomforable for the person behind? There are some people who for various reasons cannot recline.

I guess we could have a whole thread about this issue by itself.

There are some of us for various reasons, i.e. a vague attempt at comfort really must recline. Yes on international flights I pay for J but for work domestic it is and always will be Y. Sadly I have to recline to get a modicum of comfort. Never during meals but other times, sorry but I'm going backwards.

Oh, God... The age-old issue of chair-recliners in Y. That particular debate has been had, ad nauseum, and to no avail. PLEASE, let's not go through it all again!

As a Lifetime QP member I support this view, and with the number of LT members I doubt whether allowing this to occur would cause any undue effect on other pax that can use the Business Lounge.
