Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

My guess is that it would depend on whether you have a valid, complete OWA booking ticketed prior to the changes in August, or whether you have only booked part of a OWA itinerary. In the first scenario you should only be liable for changes in the surcharges, as is routinely the case at present. The points requirement shouldn't change after August.

If, on the other hand, you don't have a legit OWA booking come August, you should expect to have to pay extra points as well.

My thoughts were to book a valid OWA fare prior to the increase just to lock in the 318k cost and then amend dates and sectors to something I actually want to fly further down the track.

But obviously if I had to pay a fare difference there'd be no point in doing the extra work and dealing with what sounds like quite a hassle trying to get the call centre to process changes

How screwed am I? part 2 electric boogaloo

Called, got a very helpful non-hobart agent (I think, from accent + the fact that there was a lot of family background noise, etc). Added two flights to OWA without issue, quoted much higher taxes than I expected, but honestly whatever. Just get this over and done with.

Took card details, didn't ask for 3/4 digit security number. Wouldn't stay on the line to process the booking. Card hasn't been charged, points not deducted, booking disappeared from QF MMB but still visible on MH RJ etc as "not confirmed".

Told to wait 24 hours.

EDIT: Update - got a call back from very helpful agent, said credit card had an issue, took card number again, this time I see a charge pending on Amex. So so far, so good, I guess. Very high taxes (yikes!!), last 2 flights cost more than rest of flights together(!!), approx 2.5k AUD total for J/F RTW 9 segments(!!!!!), but approx 35 hours in F. Could be worse IMHO. Won't complain.

Still wouldn't stay with me for ticketing but at least card was charged, hopefully that makes a difference.

I think I’d be feeling a little uneasy too…
If you want to do something while you wait, you could send an email to [email protected]
and (clearly, calmly, politely) describe your issues and ask them to check the status of the itinerary & to take any remedial action necessary to get it properly ticketed.

Once again in case I'm missing something my booking is:
MEL-HKG-TFU (stop 1)
surface
PVG-HEL-ARN (stop 2)
surface
BER-HEL-MAD (stop 3)
MAD-AMM-IST (stop 4)
IST-AMM-RUH-HKG (stop 5)
Now Trying to add
HKG-BNE-SYD-MEL (home)

I thought I felt frustrated when award seats were saying available but weren't. Now they're there but saying we still can't do it is beyond infuriating.
Nothing overtly wrong but the 16 sectors might sometimes trip the computer up. Have you tried just going BNE - MEL direct? I had a lot of trouble with 16 sectors last time as well.

Well that clears that up! I got confused cause elsewhere in the rules they refer to surface ‘segments’ and flying ‘sectors’. But 13.2.3 clarifies!

Thanks!

Hi All,
Happy Friday !
I finally got the points to cover the OWA ticket for ( 3-Adult and 1 Infant ). Staring to book my tickets now. Could you please help me with below queries , please don't mind if it sounds newbie kind of question ..

1. Can I end my itinerary in the Sydney if I started from HKG and also had Sydney as long stopover. ( Planning to split the tour in 2 breaks ).
2. Can I book tickets for 3 adults and then call customer care to add infant to the ticket. Is it straight forward ?
3. what does it mean when they say "maximum 10 flight segment if you want to book on the Qantas website" , I can however see 12 flights can be booked from Qantas multi city booking tool. Is there any best practice or hacks ?

Thanks

YMMV. Let us know how you get on.

I book as much as possible on-line in the first instance. After that, it’s the Call Centre to add/change.

Update - RJ and MH both show new ticket number issued today, but no email from Qantas. OK or need to call/email?

EDIT: CMT (if anyone cares) has the wrong eticket number (maybe its an old one?), QF can't resend invoice, MH and RJ both think its OK. 🤷

As a general rule, if you are issued a new QF ticket number (starting 081), then you should be OK.
Perhaps see if you can do seat selection, and see if that seat selection carries through to QF MMB.

I don't think so, because if you stop in SYD and then leave, then later return SYD that would be 2 stop-overs in the same city.

You can transit a city more than once but that needs to be a stop of less than 24 hours so if you dont leave SYD to go back to HKG then you will be there longer than 24 hours the second time.

It looks like it does, seats on new legs selected via MH. MH has attached the new eticket number to all segments separately, RJ says the new ticket was issued today. Trying to resend invoice on QF just sends the old one again :(

Oh well hope it works.

That's what I was thinking. But then Its not a stopover in Sydney at the end , Its end of ticket.

As @Aeryn says, from the Book of Rules:

14.4.3 A one way oneworld Classic Flight Reward Itinerary will be charged as a return Itinerary. Itineraries finishing in a port other than the port of origin must include the distance to return directly to the port of origin when calculating the number of Qantas Points required to redeem the Flight Reward and the maximum distance for the Itinerary.
