How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Property: Mercure Spring Hill, Brisbane
Status: Accor Plus Platinum
Room booked: Base
Rate: $96 red hot room
Room upgrade: No ... higher floor maybe?
Free internet: Yes
Free breakfast: Yes - small but decent and included free barista coffee.
Early check in / late out: Not required
Welcome drink: 2x vouchers in app
Welcome gift: 2x still water, 1x sparkling, plate of fruit
Recommend: Ehhhh ....

Decided to give this place another go as I had seen they were actually trying to bring it up to standard. Also everything else was $270+.

Warm welcome, staff laughed at my terrible jokes and I was quickly upstairs with a freebie drink to attend a boring Teams meeting. Welcome amenities very welcome indeed. Breakfast had the usual bain maries of hot food, cereal, cold cuts (no salmon).

BUT

It's still kinda dingy. Some hallways have been painted but not all. I got hassled by homeless people on the way in and the way out (I had left work early just to make sure I was there before nightfall but still not enough). There was rubbish in the room left by previous guests. But by far the worst - there was an angle grinder blasting 40cm away from my bedhead at 7:13am. So yay they are doing renovations but surely the hotel wasn't full and they should organise such things when the neighboring rooms are empty.

So still firmly in the "only if <$100 and no other choice" category for me.

The Spring Hill area is still a bit undesirable. Definitely a rate discount partially from the area it's located in. I wonder how many international tourists get caught out and get shocked at the uncomfortable amounts of homeless people/drug users around.
The lunch/dinner menu there is pretty decent though, so I do frequent.

I also look at that place and haven't yet been tempted to try. Thanks for the update.

At Spring Hill, I've found The Johnson Art Series to be excellent value over a couple of years and not in a dingy locale, although the last time I looked it was expensive. May have been an event?

I actually adore the Johnson. It was the $270 one which seems to be its normal price. Again the area around isn't brilliant but far far fewer homeless (who I feel for, really I do; but I don't want to be panhandled or catcalled on my way too or from work!).

I recall Platinum used to have a "Complimentary soft drinks from the minibar" benefit at MGallery hotels. Has this now disappeared?

It's no longer listed in the 'Brand Specific Benefits' - after staying in a few recently, about half still offered it, the others had empty minibars! Not a factor in my decision-making, but as per all freebies - nice to get when you can.

Fantastic hotel in a beautiful city, right on the waterfront. Rooftop pool and bar were enjoyable and basement gym very well equipped for an Italian hotel. For design lovers this hotel was a treat - centuries old palazzo turned former power station retrofitted into a luxury mid-century hotel. Turndown nightly with tea and chocolates left on pillow. No free minibar as per MGallery perks of old.

Valet parking 20 euros a night and literally just parked in the sun across the road, which was a little annoying but not much choice in the matter.

The hotel has no restaurant and offers no Accor Plus benefits other than the half bottle of wine. There is a small coffee shop with limited hours and a restaurant on the premises that is unrelated to the hotel.
Room has a mini bar but no price list.

Recommend: OK for Relative Price, location suits this weekend.

The property has has the feel of a tarted up Motel - even had the paper band across the lavatory. Two stories, no lift. Had to walk outside through carpark to access room. The room has a refrigerator with small freezer - sole contents were long life milk. The room was clean, a bit ratty around the edges. Largish desk with char, lounge chair.

It sports a restaurant and bar / coffee shop - both have last orders 8:30pm. Restaurant has OK but not expansive menu.

Arriving 6pm I was going to head to Griffith for dinner, but it was so cold I decided to "Stay In". "Tandoori Chicken" Pizza was fine - too much for one. $17 after Accor Plus discount. It was washed down with welcome drinks.

Trunk Route R6 Bus stop outside provides easy connection between Woden, Manuka, Civic, ANU (If you want that far). Free off peak travel for Seniors

Been a while since I’ve stayed there but do they still do breakfasts in the seperate restaurant or has that partnership/contract ended. I remember the breakfast being ok but nothing more
