What I ate today - the food thread

Dinner at a Thai place, Bo Rarn, ADL CBD.

We planned to go to and did go to Golden Boy thai restaurant. But we were told that they are only doing the feed me menu - which is a chef curated set menu at $72/person. Most of my travel party did not feel like indulging in another feed me menu situation after the amazing Indian dinner at Jasmine the previous night. So we tried a different Thai place - Bo Rarn.

Nice decor, warm light settings. The restaurant is a tribute to Lord Hanuman, a god from the Hindu religion. The walls are decorated with images and depictions of Lord Hanuman. The restaurant itself was too warm, bordering hot temperature, but was alright I guess. Once we got used to the temperature, we were alright.

Started with their vegan spring rolls - amazing dish. Simply amazing. The filling had nice flavour and makes you keep going back. I was the only vego, so I had all the three rolls to myself. I did offer to share, but others had satay chicken and prawns - guess they had better things to tuck into than a vegan spring roll. Anyways, more for me! Yayy!

For mains, I had ordered the vegan fried rice (and as some of you might have guessed the pattern) with a side of fresh chilli. 😊

As the mains hit the table, I could see eggs in the dish. So I had to politely decline and send it back. The waitperson was apologetic and took the dish back to be replaced. Mistakes happen eh! At this point in time, I had a change of mind and I asked if I could get the red curry with tofu instead of the fried rice.

The kitchen was happy for the dish swap. I also ordered a serve of rice and a roti. It took a bit longer than usual, but the red curry was served. It has pineapple and lychee in it along with a generous portion of carrots, sweet potatoes and what I think were edamame beans? The dish was flavour full and had the subtle sweetness from the fruits. The chilli on the side, albeit not fresh, did an excellent job in balancing the dish. used all the rice and roti to mop up the dish.

I also had Jasmine Green tea to accompany all the dishes.

Come bill time, the restaurant offered the rice and roti I had for free for the earlier dish mix up. I refused and offered to pay the whole bill, but they were insistent that the rice and roti was on the house.

Was a good night with good dishes. Will definitely come back.

Today's breakfast. Total of S$8

My wife had two Dosai and a coffee.

I had the "Indian Toast Set". Due to the waiters poor English and my non-existent Tamil I missed out on the little bowl of Chicken Curry that came with it. I didn't really need it anyway.

Two "half boiled eggs". Actually, barely 1/4 boiled. Plus a Dosai and Pandan Tea.

It’s been over 6 months since I had Dosai. My mouth’s watering seeing this 🤣

Edit: the store name translates to Kumar (is the name of a person), mama is uncle, Kadai is store and Veetu Saapadu means home cooked meals. If you need any help with Tamil, pls PM me, I’ll help 😀

Thanks for the offer of translation duties .

This was one of little roadside cafe"s at Changi Village. It was doing a very good breakfast trade and did seem to be operating as a family run place
