SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Flying ADL-SIN-AMS next month in J. Sounds like there's not a lot to look forward to (well, maybe apart from the stop in SIN).
Not sure exatly what you mean? Great service and soft product, good hard product. Not sure what else you could really want.

Plenty of airlines a lot worse than SQ lol.

Everytime (handful) I've had ice cream it's been this hard in J. Usually get the tart or pie etc
100s of flts never experienced this before - and to put in context LSS who delivered it came back 10mins later and said I noticed other pax in the cabin eating their ice cream nowhere near as hard as yours - here is another one you can eat right now as she handed me a second one 👍

Not so much unfortunately in 2025 :( The seats in business are well past their use by date. Food is ok. Can’t fault the crew, but service restrictions due to the over use of the seatbelt sign is a real issue.

Rubbish - now on 6th sector in last 10 days and seatbelt sign sign hardly ever activated on any flight
That’s your experience, and that’s great…. until it isn’t. Mine - and others - have been different.

Just wait till you get a couple flights in a row where the pilots are over cautious. It significantly impacts the overall product.

Until I experienced it I was much the same as you. But once it happens it’s a risk that goes into considering whether to fly SQ or another carrier.

If conditions require seat belt sign to be activated it will be - that ain’t SQ specific - sone postings here suggests it is - again don’t like SQ operations don’t fly them

Flew SQ278 ADL-SIN recently, great service, good food , seats changed to 11d/f at T-96. Very happy once again with SQ. And certainly a better proposition than anything QF offers direct out of Adelaide 😜

It seems to be SQ specific following SQ321. Some pilots appear to be overly cautious - more akin to US airlines. And the associated impact on service delivery.

Rubbish - how many SQ sectors have you experienced this on?

I am currently on my 20th SQ sector for this year and have never experienced anything on any flight think out of ordinary.

That’s the thing. Two flights in a row. DXB-SIN connecting SIN-SYD.

The first flight the seatbelt sign was on for 30 minutes after takeoff, despite - as it turned out - perfect flying conditions. Resulting service harried given full flight and short flying time. The second flight the seatbelt sign went off quick enough, but then came on at least half a dozen times during the flight. Nothing more than the occasional light bump. The sign went on around 90 minutes prior to landing, meaning a hot coffee to wake up was out of the question. As was changing out of PJs as the WCs were out of use.

Haven’t had that problem on a dozen previous SQ sectors. But now I know it’s a risk, it does factor in to my choice of carrier.

It’s not an issue… until it is.

Yesterday on 831 in J PVG—SIN meal starter was Scallops which I cannot eat - FSS told me ‘Just wait a minute I will see what I can find’ - she came back a few mins later and said she can offer me a F Class starter - ok let’s do that:

Here is before and after Burrata:

Now thanks to FSS for going out of her way to accommodate me - but how or when this cough can ever be considered acceptable foodstuff way beyond me

I hv noticed these comments about extended ‘seatbelts on’ periods but it wasn’t our recent experience. Just done Syd Sin LHR with several quite violent bumps. We had 5-10 mins of everyone down but then back to normal service in both cases. I actually had to pick up my 2 red wine glasses somewhere N of lake Eyre, but it didn’t deter my heroic efforts to assess & report on the full list of F reds onboard. For reference, the Leoville Poyferre Bordeaux, a 2005 vintage, is starting to fade. Still pretty but the fruit is nearly gone. The 21 Clonakilla O’Riiada by contrast is a strapping colt that needs more taming .. didn’t try the Palliser Pinot.

TPR’s stock of 15 Kooyong PN also looking long in the tooth - I asked if the bottle has been opened long and apparently insulted the waiter by doing so. Oh no sir, it was opened just today. We swapped to the Vajra Barbera which was great, fresh and lively.

I confess I didn’t get far down the list on the overnight to LHR but can recommend the burgundy, a Santenots 18 Volnay. Nice to have a glass of that on the ground before we left. I spose that’s what SQ can do at thr home port.. we stuck with the 2013 Compte on both flts - superb.

Service and attention on both flts was fantastic, food was pretty good, things ran like a Swiss watch, UK immigration was empty and our bags were waiting for us. Good to enjoy SQ again..

On both flts the 2013 Compte was our sparkling choice - superb!
