Amex just gave me 10,000 points

I received the call yesterday as well around lunch time. Checked this morning and sure enough 10,000 points had been added with the notation 'Customer Loyalty Bonus Points'. I've got the Platinum Credit Card and Gold Charge Card currently. Merry Christmas indeed! :D

I wonder if Amex has misplaced my telephone number again. ;)
 
I suggest you call and ask if you haven't already. I just rang and they gave it to me.

I have Personal Amx Plat Credit Card, Gold Business Charge and Gold Business Credit Card. Spend is probabyl inthe orde rof $100k per annum across all card holders.

Just rang and said some of "my colleagues" had received an offer of 10k free points and could I please have it too.
 
You know when you first hear a voice on the phone when calling customer service and think "I should hang up now"... But you persist and of course get nowhere....

Called AMEX today to ask for the 10k loyalty points.

CSA put me on hold and came back after a few minutes.
Was told that this was from "outbound team" and offered by upper management after review of card holders who had trouble with their accounts in the past, and was a "thank you" to them for staying with AMEX through those problems.

Request therefore denied.

Can anyone who was offered/given the 10k points confirm previous technical troubles with their account, or is this some generic PR answer they're giving me?

I'd written a letter to them previously outlining a few issues I had with the ongoing erosion of benefits associated with the Platinum Credit Card (main issues at the time being the increase of Forex rate to 3%, along with the previous loss of QF points transfer and before that the loss of the SYD-PER flight option). I did get a polite response at the time, but nothing more than that - so it certainly sounds plausible.

The rubbish I was fed included the following

"I don't know what offer that is, maybe it was an outbound team, so I have no knowledge of that"

"I have heard some people received a bonus due to issue they had earlier this year with their MR account" When pressed on this he said "due to a promotion being offered and then withdrawn some customers received 10,000 points as compensation"

Make of that what you will but I got nothing.
 

I was thinking of that promotion - where they gave me some points, took twice as many away, before correcting it. While irritating, it was not as bad as when my card got put on hold twice during last years promotion due to Amex back office errors.

No points my way, but there may be more to it than has been disclosed.

I had a lot of trouble with them and ended up cancelling my business card (plat and green). havn't decided whether to re-activate them or not yet..
 
I got a call today, and 10000 points bonus. :mrgreen:

My only previous contact with them with the previous 5000 points per 5 transaction bonus, when I wrote a letter to them.

I got the call on Thursday afternoon. 10k points that I was told would convert to 10k QFF points at the end of December. Again, "thank you for your loyalty". I have the mid-range Qantas Amex and have had huge problems over the past 15 or so months. Originally, it was an exchange rate calculcation issue that went on for several weeks.

Back in September, I cancelled a JQ flight, JQ refunded the money to my card putting it in credit. I requested Amex send the money to me which they said they would do in the form of a cheque. It didn't arrive so I phoned them again and they said they'd cancel the first cheque and send another. Then that one didn't arrive so I phoned back, very unhappy. This time they said they'd deposit it directly into my bank account. Surprise, surprise, that didn't happen. Many phone calls, most of them with me raising my voice demanding to know where my money was, and I eventually got it. On the final phone call I asked to put through to cancellations, this time fully prepared to cancel it; simply too much hassel. I got the spiel from an overseas call centre operator about how I have one of the best cards available, great points earning etc. etc. Then she through me a $100 credit! I stayed with them, needless to say. And now an extra 10k.
 
I got this phone call whilst I was in Hong Kong last week. Had been spending up quite a bit and assumed it was relating to that, so was pleasantly surprised. Thought i might be a prank call later on, but checked today and points posted.

+1 for the 10k bonus. here.

I get the impression they're looking at everyone who's had mild-moderate issues during the year and bonusing (is that a word:confused:) everyone who hasnt cancelled.

Makes me happier after i've had a few Amex issues this year, but i'm still mildly pissed about the 5t/5k promo stuff-up despite the 10k bonus.

Still, better than nothing..... :rolleyes:
