Passenger barred from F flight for tracky dacks

My comments were more for those people (yes you know who you are) who wear grey track suit pants (or even bike shorts) and scungy tee-shirts on a flight or even out in public.

Interesting. I change into a pair of tracksuit pants (admittedly they do look more like pants than tracksuit) for any flight over 6-7 hours. I find they are more comfortable than jeans, but also warmer than chinos.

FWIW, I've flown SYD-SIN (and vv) about 10 times this year, plus LHR-JFK-SYD, and SYD-LHR (vv) in a combination of F (20%), J (60%) and W/Y (20%) and no one's complained.

How you behave is probably more important when sitting on a plane than how you are dressed, as there are fewer accepted norms for dress.

Anyone willing to test it out personally? I would volunteer, bit don't have any opportunity to take a UA F flight in the near future.
I am in Feb - but said tracky dacks are not part of my normal travel apparel (although maybe some QF J pyjamas would be a good substitute?):p

Well, personally, I'D never wear tracksuit pants anywhere other than around the house or on the way to / from massage (....but this is chiefly because I have legs like a chicken).

I have travelled twice in UA F (Trans Pacific) whilst wearing shorts - exactly as I was wearing in the office before hand. Not an issue with any crew. Likewise for QF F international - no problems with anyone. The story must have more in it than is reported by the media.

Yeah, I can understand the whole comfort issue for long haul flights, but I do think trackpants in F or J cabin is taking the mickey.

I keep a good pair of cotton lightweight slacks on hand for those kind of long flights regardless of cabin and coupled with a decent loose dress cotton shirt which I can roll the sleeves up on if it gets cold or I want some additional freedom of movement is just about perfect for me.

Jeez, I can't believe I'm engaging in a conversation on people's dress habits - specially considering I'm walking around my own lounge room in a tank top and 3/4 cotton shorts :D

And I'm definitely not telling you what I am wearing now .

I pretty much always travel to the airport in a pair of cargo pants and a polo shirt changing into PJs as soon as I board.

Personally I actually don't care what other people are wearing and most times don't even see it - if people wanted to fly in their underwear I don't care - I am not flying to look at other people. Just keep your mouth shut and the smells contained.

Well I may be about to find out how QF handles it.Sitting in the J lounge BKK.On QF2 tonight. It has just arrived from LHR.2 fellows in tracky dacks plus the Kangaroos-all wearing their footy shorts and thongs.Really hope they are down the back.At least we are upstairs.

As I posted in another thread I can't believe some that people think it's okay to loll around the F cabin in airline pyjamas but not in a tracksuit

well 1 of the fellows in tracky dacks was upstairs as well as a few of the Kangaroos. No dress standards for QF J.The amazing scene was seeing after brekkie the Kangaroos coming out of the loo all dressed up with blazers and even ties-some strange knots though.Alfie Langer slept through it all though.

I think that is the answer; travel in comfort and in the case of the Kangaroos they changed for appearance when they arrived for the media, otherwise wear what you want. It shouldn't matter what you wear on a flight so long as it is not offensive.

I agree with Simongr about changing into PJ as soon as you are on board, and once last year when in Y I had a pair of J PJ's with me to change into and at least you have somewhat fresh clothes to change back into when you arrive at your destination, especially after long haul.

Exactly what I did on the way here. Flew J MEL-SIN, and whY SIN-FRA; changed into my J PJ's on SIN-FRA as soon as the plane had taken off and the seat belt sign was extinguished. Very comfortable flight (3 seats to myself helped also I guess ;)).

I agree with you given 3/4 length shorts were banned from mainland Australia about 3 years ago:D;)

"Customer is always right" comes to mind...to an extent. Whats wrong with casual and if your paying for the ticket, it's a sale and airlines need sales. Bottom line.
Perhaps it was because he had a "Bottom Line".
Sorry couldn't help myself.

Is that what others would refer to as a "builders crack"
Quick, get the Crack Spackle.

And if FA's ever need a guide on the types of fashions that should be banned from the lounges, or in fact the entire plane - People of Walmart is pretty much the photo book for this.

I won't spoil that site for you and include a few pics, I'll leave you to discover that on your own - with my own disclaimer: Site should not be viewed after eating.

It was a little while ago that I ate, but even so that was still too recent.

I'm sure that I've sat next to a couple of them before now!
