Passenger barred from F flight for tracky dacks

It is also extremely easy to have a comfortable pair of pleated pants. Why do people consider a pair of jeans more comfortable than a pair of slacks or suit pants?
Personally I do not like travelling jeans or track pants. In fact I am sitting in the MEL J Lounge now (Saturday morning) wearing my iron-free Dockers and a smart polo type shirt. But that is because I find them more comfortable than jeans or track pants. I don't mind if other passengers want to wear jeans or track pants, or even shorts or boardies. I would draw the line at budgie smugglers though.

About time the airlines started policing dress standards for all passengers not just First class.

Some people should never go out in public with the clothes they wear these days....

Pleated pants? really? I could not disagree more. What on earth makes pleated pants more acceptable than jeans. The attempts by people to enforce their own archaic dress standards on others amazes me. I only hope that you sir are not in charge of "policing dress standards for all passengers not just First class."

Steve Jobs, Apple Ceo. Would this be too casual on a F flight?

Ahh yes but "Sir Steve" has the Apple Corporate Jet. He hasn't flown anywhere "in first" in a long time. A Part of his remuneration is that he gets to use the jet for travelling:)

That's fine if that's what you feel comfortable in. I can look perfectly respectable in a pair of nice jeans with a polo shirt or heck even a proper collared business shirt if I want to, along with a nice pair of shoes.

I find jeans more comfortable than 'chino' type pants. My preference that's all. I was more inferring you can still look neat and tidy with a pair of jeans.

I like to wear mole skins and a solid cotton collared shirt with chest pocket for B.P.
Solid boots as well. Just in case the flames start lickin' at my back and I have to jump down one of those yellow chutes that look like they'd grate your skin.

Was just an example. Well done to him for getting the jet though.

Easy to work a jet into the deal when your salary is just $1 a year.

I wouldn't have thought he uses the jet though, as Greenpeace would have a field day due to the gases it emits, plus he's never too far from his office.

And I'm sure he could get into F with whatever he liked on, as I recall, his Mercedes has no plates and he drives that with no troubles.

Pleated pants, or even slacks, or chinos, always look nice where as a lot of jean type material (think disgusting ripped, torn, "so-called" designer jeans) look extremely scruffy. Have a look around. Appearance and behaviour are the most important things when out in public.

Just a personal opinion but don't get too worked up over a trongue-in comment. I should have used the :)p) smilie for better clarity.

I did not say that people do not look neat and tidy in jeans. Far from it. I asked why people feel that jeans are more comfortable than a pair of slacks, pleated pants, chinos or suit pants? I know it is a personal preference but does it have something to do with slacks being the accepted business casual attire while jeans are worn away from work?

My comments were more for those people (yes you know who you are) who wear grey track suit pants (or even bike shorts) and scungy tee-shirts on a flight or even out in public. I am not the fashion police but that should just be outlawed....

Actually its just behaviour. Just because what people wear does not fit with your values is tough luck. In my experience of flights and lounges - chances are the loud boorish masters of the universe are wearing suits.

What next - no tattoos - long hair? Time to move out of the 50's.

I wouldn't wear a tracksuit in a gym, from my limited use of them I've found them to be quite stuffy and I can't imagine why that'd be good when sweating away on a treadmill!

I agree: shorts and singlet in the gym - to clarify if its cold outside I'll usually through on a hoodie and some track pants to jog home!

Matching tracksuit top and bottom: uh nuh. You'd be driven out of my area with a pitch and fork :p

I will wear essentially whatever I want, as the mood and circumstances suit me and so should you all, as long as my torso is covered. See below.

As long as my attire is essentially clean and does not smell and these parts [link removed] from the clavicle down are covered it is absolutely no-one elses business. It is not up to airlines or other travelers to dictate style choices.

There is some very small minded rubbish spoken on here sometimes.

PS. I will put my Y3 tracksuit or my Zegna shorts up against any coughpy chinos in a style contest anyday :!:

Of course this might be regarded as 50s fashion-

It wasnt all suits and short hair for those of you who werent there

About half the people on the upper deck on my J flight from MEL-SIN (most were continuing to LHR) were in suit attire.... I personally don't see the point! I guess they want to hit the ground running when they land.

Flew SYD-SIN in F last Wed, and ~10 out of 14 people in the cabin were wearing suits. I assume they had come straight from work and onto the plane.
