My comments were more for those people (yes you know who you are) who wear grey track suit pants (or even bike shorts) and scungy tee-shirts on a flight or even out in public.
Interesting. I change into a pair of tracksuit pants (admittedly they do look more like pants than tracksuit) for any flight over 6-7 hours. I find they are more comfortable than jeans, but also warmer than chinos.
FWIW, I've flown SYD-SIN (and vv) about 10 times this year, plus LHR-JFK-SYD, and SYD-LHR (vv) in a combination of F (20%), J (60%) and W/Y (20%) and no one's complained.
How you behave is probably more important when sitting on a plane than how you are dressed, as there are fewer accepted norms for dress.
