Flying SYD-LAX return (Y) in the next few weeks with the family. Kids aren't QFF members and aren't likely to fly much again in the near future. Was wondering if it was worth the cost of joining to get their points. Thanks.

Why not sign them up to Everyday Rewards and get free QFF membership for them!

Sign them up for sure online via Everyday Rewards after getting the cards from Woolies. QF have family transfers so you can get the QF points

Here on AFF we would think you a delinquent parent if you did not sign them up :p :p.

You could use the serfty method:

Parent 1 has 450K
Parent 2 has 10k
Child 1 earns 4K
Child 2 earns 4k

P1 transfers 1K to C1 so C1 now has the required 5K to make family transfer. C1 transfers 5k to C2 who now has 9K. C2 transfers 9K to P2 who now has enough for a SYD-MEL return.

I reckon sign them up. I even paid to sign up my kids. I figured that even if they didn't fly that much it get them a head start on LT status.

Even better is: P2 TF 10K -->Child 1 who then TF 14K --->Child 2 who then TF 18K to P1 who now has 468K; P1 has not wasted a transfer, and can book all sorts of awards for the family; even better if P1 is Gold or higher!

Good idea to do it via Everyday Rewards - we've only got the one card but I guess you can get as many as you like - no age barrier?

Makes the points a cheap earn then with nearly 15 000 points on offer for each one.

You'd also be giving them a head start, albeit small, on lifetime status later in life, should they fly a lot more. At the very least, it'll get you a better chance at upgrades (using points) or free flights.

Did the Everyday Rewards last night signing them up so that's saved $165. Got the QFF numbers straight away. Kids' QFF numbers are now well over the 7 million mark! I joined in 1995 and it was under the million still.

Also interesting that in the 5-10 minutes between the first and the second Warkling joining, another 10 QFF numbers had been generated - a rate of one person joining per minute? Peak time at any rate.

Interesting, my parents signed up around the launch of the program, a few months ago, and their numbers were roughly 648xx_X. Qantas will be happy.

I signed up a family friends last night and the FF number given was 719xx_X. Big difference from my 095xx_X FF number :)

I'm not sure the numbers are generated sequentially.

Just think, those of us who joined in the mid 90's and earlier can refer/brag/explain about having 6 (or 5 or less) digit numbers. In 20 years time, your offspring can do the same regarding 7 digit number when their contemporary newbies have 8. :p

My old boss had 3 digit FF number. Always had trouble on the phone when speaking to new staff, they go, "No, It's a longer number" ...

Some places where I enter my QFF number it pulls it up as it doesn't have 7 digits! Have to put the 0 in front. I do know a four digit QFF member who would need a few more zeroes. (There was a thread on the lowest QFF number once).

Like V8statesman I'm also 095xx_X - I always remember the 95 as it was the year I joined, by coincidence.

When my wife joined in mid-late 1997 her number was 169xx_X. Around that time the ANZ Telstra Qantas VISA card came out which saw a bit of a surge.

Drifting OT...

This smells of a phone call along the lines of "Hi Mr "Old Boss" as a valued and frequent flyer, would you like to join our new frequent flyer scheme before it is launched for the public?"
