KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes

Good too see them return. Great value. I was a bit lucky in Feb/Mar 2020, Ended up getting the points refunded (should have lost them), although still cost ~$400 in cancellation fees.

Singapore to Cape Town in J is cheap at 34,300 points. Presume it goes via JNB As transit.

MEL/SYD to/from SIN, 19600+++ each way in what appear to be very empty economy cabins.

Limited Business class for 43,400 points one way.
Flying out next week on SQ222 (A380) on a regular Saver J but have noticed on EF how empty the whY cabin is. Maybe about 25%. Y+ probably 70-80%. J 80-90% and F full.

Looked like they’ve blocked a window seat for peeps that haven’t preselected seats and will get three seats to themselves! Y+ when not in Y+!

That's similar to my experience on SQ222 a few weeks ago, and the trend seems to be repeated on many other long-haul routes across many airlines. Demand for premium cabin travel is surprisingly high right now, compared to long-haul Y demand.

Making a spontaneous escape booking is risky in the COVID world, no cancellation/rebooking option and the points will be forfeited.
And the no cancellation clause would put me off booking...I rather pay 30% more points and have flexibility in these Covid times!

I know you can't cancel a booking but can I still book an economy reward through SE promo and ask to be waitlisted for business SE promo?

Don't mind if the Biz waitlist doesn't get approved because the revenue fare is pretty high for economy.

Another question: are date changes allowed?

No changes initiated by the PAX, you travel as booked or forfeit.with maybe a USD100 no show fee. If SQ change things, that is a other matter.

I am currently booked on two A350 flight between Oz and SIN in weeks. Total allocated economy seats number 25 ... across the two flights.

damn, I should have come on here to see this earlier, been a few weeks since i tried some bookings. Lots of seats seem to be taken up. I was wondering is it possible to reserve a flight at higher points as well as waitlist for lower points usage / promo? As I was unable to do that. Also what are peoples viewpoint of using points for Economy flights?

Terrible value, unfortunately.
yeah thats what i was worried about. But with the spontaneous escapes, I cant find any business class flights that i need to fit in with my return dates and to take advantage of the promo :(. damn, not sure what to do.

Yeah that's the issue. Very limited availability that they've got.
If earning points is no hassle for you (for example, business spend or other ways of generating points in large quantities quickly), then go for it, you'll make back the promo points cost of your Y flight(s) in no time.
From my perspective, because my points earn is purely through daily, everyday spend (read: tiny, slow points earn) - it means that every point I earn is pure gold and I'd only use them for J or F/R flights.
If you're in the same situation as me, then just book the Y tickets as cash tickets. Save the points for a bigger J/F redemption.

yeah i was thinking if i should just use cash, although i am not sure if this is right but i remember booking one way tickets with cash was far pricier than booking return tickets...but i havent looked at doing that for a few years not sure if things have changed.

Btw do i need my new passport details when i go to book? I couldnt find a way to skip the passport details section and i dont have my new passport on me at the moment. I have my old one memorised but the new one has not even been used once yet.

Yes - in general a one-way ticket is more than half of a return ticket. The exact differential depends on the route/date/etc. Again - if you're happy with flying in Y then I'd suggest just book it using cash, you'll get the CC points for the purchase as well as the miles for the actual flights, which all count towards building your KF balance.

You can use your old passport (with a completely made up future expiry date), all that matters is the passport used at check-in. During OLCI you can type in your new passport details and that will be linked up to your booking for the airport check-in to verify.
So don't worry about it - all is fine :)
