Australian state border restrictions

Beauticians -the fount of all health knowledge.
But to be fair this is happening because of the excellent fear campaign waged by Health Bureaucrats.
Absolutely. And I posted similarly on SA Health FB that this panic is the outcome of SA Health's obsession with Covid zero.

It’s pretty clear that both SA and Qld want covid in and want it now, but they’ve both scared their population so much they don’t know how to go about it.

Queensland in particular, by only screening 5% of flights, have as good as opened the floodgates.

Yes. We've now had five in three days. Another couple this afternoon. And people are in total meltdown.

Hopefully give them a few weeks and they'll be over it. I dare say that very few people in NSW or Victoria even check daily cases positive test results anymore.

I can understand compulsory tests for very close contacts but quarantine like this amidst major community spread is simply not sustainable. What are the rules in NSW/VIC on this at the moment?

These are the rules as of 19th November. Contact tracing has pretty much gone out the window, you will receive a notification in the check in app if you need to get a test. You need to get a PCR test and isolate until a negative result and then you’re free to go.

It's all about numbers, just of invites to dinners, bdays, family gatherings & events.
Full calender again, woop!

Do we really need to be notified? At what point do we move on from this? I am triple vaccinated. That's three times the number of flu vaccinations I usually get. In influenza times, I don't recall ever "checking in" or being told I am a "flu close contact". Am I more at risk from the flu when unvaccinated, or covid when triple vaccinated?
If there were no implications, I would quite like to be notified if I were a close contact to either Covid or the traditional flu.
As an example, Miss Wood has recently been very unwell with a flu variant that turned into pneumonia. She has been brought up to be a generous child so she shared the germs with the rest of the family. The mystery is where she got it from. The potential locations for exposure are very limited.
It'd be a nice public health thing if the various viruses were tracked. It would also be very useful experience for when the next Covid variant kicks off.

Just catching up on the day and I see SA has been getting excited quarantining flights. They quarantined rows 1 - 4 on a Qantas flight from Sydney. That's going to hurt. I've been paying extra throughout Covid to ensure I'm row 1. Bit of space from neighbour, steal centre air vent and rely on HEPA filters.
Worked so far and as a double vaxed business class pax, I'd be really unhappy to be doing fourteen days soft. They need to stop this stuff!

Queensland.

I see some news commentary today that Queensland may not reach 90% by 17 December which I believe to be the date at which the borders open domestically to those fully vaccinated without the need to quarantine. It's my understanding that the 17 December date is set in stone as the latest at which the borders open, regardless of whether or not the 90% double vax is reached. While I know that can change, is that other people's understanding at this point in time?

Correct but for the wrong reason.

The threshold was 80% DD, and this was the latest they would open the border. It looks like they'll get to 80% earlier.

The date is also the earliest they'll impose vaccine lockouts - so if the borders do open earlier, there could be a brief period where the borders are open and unvaxxed are not restricted.

The 90% relates to lifting the vaccine mandates and international travel, that's what's now in question as to whether that will ever be achieved.

Queensland is expecting to reach 80% fully vaxxed on or before 17 Dec, with some reduction in restrictions, with 90% fully vaxxed most recently claimed to be expected in early January IIRC. The news about no cafes etc for the unvaxxed come 17 Dec has lifted lagging uptake somewhat. Last I read - can't find the story - was that they were sticking to the 17 Dec change date even if they reach 80% a few days earlier. Yes, this is a change in the wind following a previous shift earlier.

What will actually happen, and when, is still anyone's guess.

Cheers skip

They've now quarantined another plane - not just rows 1-4.

I'm just glad I don't have to fork out $150 to cross into Qld.

Does anybody know if Qld will accept a NSW Health PCR test ? Or do I have to go to a special pathology lab to do a PCR ?

Wouldn't have a clue as to where the pathology labs are !

I have added quotes based on my recent experience and have not read through all SA comments
Oh they will throw all the resources at it or simply make people wait.
Agreed 12 months back there were long lines at the airport so as they could check details and hand you one of these.

Out of interest this PCR test you must undertake within 72hours of travel to SA, and I know this has round about been covered & not covered, but can this be the tax payers drive-thru state run type, text message?
I also wondered about this so called the SA Covid hotline and after starting at around no. 83 in the call about an hour or 2 later was advised that drive through tests are acceptable and negative test results via SMS are acceptable from any state government approved lab. As I live here I was more interested to know if I could get tested in SA and return on the same same test, see below for the reason. For the record I still do trust or believe anything our 3 wise monkeys say let alone the call centre agent working from a script.
Is there actually an official source for anything in SA we can review… messy messy messy!
I posted in another thread "I was applying within the designated window, knocked back a couple of times and was becoming frustrated and confused. It was not until I called the covid line that I was informed I could not apply until SA had officially opened. It should not be that hard to include such detail on the the website or configure the approval process to enable permits to be approved for a date that is post opening." I guess the answer is no.

All states have to accept the sms message as evidence of a test according to the media this week

And in my little SA bubble, I’ve seen just over 50 outpatients +/- their carers today, so maybe 60 people. NO ONE is freaking out about Covid—i make it a point to ask. Half watch or listen to the news regularly. Hardly anyone is in social media among my patients. Everyone I’ve had close contact with today is fully vaccinated save one. Eight people were excited about getting on the plane in the next four weeks, and six are welcoming visitors from interstate before Christmas. Four had medical exemptions for wearing a mask, another two were too breathless to have one on. I’m really proud of my oldies, they’re certainly made of sterner stuff. Some of them are really frail, some are in residential care, a handful have had crippling mood disorders, but I get the sense they just want get a move on it and start living the few years (or months?!?) they’ve got left, virus be damned!

Great to hear.

Not sure if you've ever been to Kalymnos Bakery on Henley Beach Road. I have multiple times as it shares the verandah with my hairdresser. Very bad for calories. It was listed as an exposure site for 40 minutes around lunchtime when people eat both inside and outside. There's always someone eating inside. There is a space of about 1.5 metre from door to counter. So quite narrow. You are always standing next to someone and the QR check in is right next to the til. So social distancing impossible. Now, this 30 point plan for each business to self assess re risk. They've assessed themselves as very low risk 😂 and so they don't have to do anything but a clean and no staff has to isolate but they are closing today for a deeper clean. Perhaps they are privately testing but the owner didn't say that. My conclusion - it's all a bit of a facade. If any place had a high level of risk with someone who was there for 40 minutes eating, it's this place. But I'm pleased that businesses aren't being crippled anymore. I think people are moving on except for the nervous nellies. My only concern remains for very reactive businesses like child care and possibly schools. And of course we need certain high level care places to be very cautious and reactive.

Are they hunting down the customers who were there in that 40 minute period?
