Australian state border restrictions

I arrived in to Melbourne this evening from SA (after travelling from NSW into SA the day before for work) greeted by some strange looking oldies in full PPE, shouting to everyone if they had an entry permit and if not then queue up for one and those that had one the person I asked was not sure if they need to sight it or not. Made me 'chortle' out loud :)

Maybe they thought - South Africa?

Would have been interesting to just keep walking and ignore the theatre.

Next time I go to Melbourne I’ll do sunglasses and headphones 😂

The approval came though just after midnight. So about 6 hours.
Thanks, please let us know what it's like upon arrival. Computer decided to have a tantrum so black friday sales it is - have a bit of time to complete the application.

You'd probably get shot. Most times I encounter these strange welcomes, there's heavily armed police in the background. Must be very boring standing around wondering why you need an automatic rifle in an airport terminal.

And another infection in SA today from someone who flew from Sydney yesterday. Quite a few exposure sites including the airport and two Foodland stores. Given low rate of infection in NSW it’s just strange that one has arrived here already.

What's the local reaction like? Is it major shock horror, or is there an acceptance that Covid zero is not sustainable?

Most know it’s inevitable but still some that are getting on social media and venting their anger at the state government for opening up.
7 day quarantine for those at exposure sites which is utter madness though

I can understand compulsory tests for very close contacts but quarantine like this amidst major community spread is simply not sustainable. What are the rules in NSW/VIC on this at the moment?

That's the big concern. The question is how long they'll be able to maintain this? If you've got general QR check-in compliance and you get a few big exposure sites, such as large supermarkets, the number of people forced to quarantine is going to skyrocket and will rapidly become unenforceable.

Pretty bad. It’s seen as the Govt voluntarily bringing it in.

Nephew and girlfriend arrived from Sydney yesterday for a family wedding. Not on the affected flight. It is already impacting on them with places requiring them to have another negative Covid test now in Adelaide (they did one before they left as required) before they will do a service for them.

Seriously…

So copy and paste a text…

The logical response to the risk of 7 days quarantine is to avoid check-in wherever possible. To push people down this path is seriously counter productive. Better to have everyone checking in so that they can be notified.

I think jakeseven7 meant copying a previous SMS from a testing place saying negative. Ethically, that's the wrong thing to do and may end up being very costly. Follow the rules and keep calm...whilst having a RAT is quicker, easier and apparently a high rate of confidence (99.5%), I can understand that Governments want to only trust pathology lab results (PCR's, which can still be wrong)...

Do we really need to be notified? At what point do we move on from this? I am triple vaccinated. That's three times the number of flu vaccinations I usually get. In influenza times, I don't recall ever "checking in" or being told I am a "flu close contact". Am I more at risk from the flu when unvaccinated, or covid when triple vaccinated?

RATs are banned in SA. 🤷‍♀️

it will also show NSW not SA and they will have been here for a few days prior to the service required (manicure pre wedding etc). The Govt doesn’t want them to do another test as they had one a couple of days ago in NSW. It’s a damn beautician booked for the wedding party who wants one done from SA.
