Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Not many, but if I have a friend or 2 over we can polish quite a few during the afternoon.

I take photos, but I forget to post.

Not sure what that equates to in bottles per week. Reason I ask is I note you're buying 2-3 cases of things that won't improve with cellaring (like Penfolds Max, which IMHO is a pretty rubbish wine, but that's another story). I'm wondering what you're doing with it all.

Certainly no judgement here, but there seems to be purchasing wine for the sake of purchasing wine because it's discounted.

I think you misunderstood what I said.

I was directly speaking of a sale last year 4 for $40 which included St Hugo's.

I bought 2-3 cases altogether of mixed wine raging between $30-45 for $10ea.
I hardly think that's buying for the sake of a sale, considering these are great wines to bring to friends homes, or drink during the week if I choose.
I see people buying absolutely junk on here for $5-8 from CM/Dan's and I don't see you calling them out? I mean people were going mental for $45 cases.

I'm sure by the photos I post, you notice I barely drink anything under $35-75. I use CB to my advantage to get 30% off $100-150 bottles.

This Liquorland sale was a one off, I rarely ever buy wine in the $10 range even tho these are worth more.

I still buy a mix, some drink now and alot of Cellar potential wines.

I'm not allowed to do that, because I'm not an alcoholic?

@Mynameislucluc let me apologise if I've caused offence. None was intended nor judgement. I'm also not judging anyone on the cost of the bottle of wine they drink. There's plenty of good drinking to be had in the cheaper end of the range (maybe not for long term cellaring though).

It does come across that your focus is on the cost of a bottle and to a lesser extent the discount you got on it. Nothing wrong with that. It's just my observation and was curious. That's all. Wasn't intended to be divisive.

The threads on here are generally all sales related, therefore that's where my energy in-regards to posts is. If you look at the wines I posted, literally 90% you can't find on sale.

I buy plenty of wine from smaller wineries that's not discounted, however if I can get a discount on wine why wouldn't I? Even if it's trying something new.

I think there's a misunderstanding here, it just seems like genuine interest into how you will manage a situation that I'm sure many here have gone through. With the rate of buying tending to exceed the rate of drinking, we tend to open more of the "good stuff" with company, leaving behind lesser bottles to collect dust. i.e. I remember purchasing clarendon hills stuff (not Astralis) a couple years back, simply because it was cheap. However, it eventuated that it would never end up in a nightly lineup, as there would be so much more interesting wines. Furthermore the premiumisation of our tastes is a real bummer as well, with the "drink now" bottles being neglected.

Now, there are people that are happy with $10 quaffers, nothing wrong with that, it's great on the wallet actually. But given your percieved interest in wine, it's natural that you may follow down the aforementioned path of no return :). I ended up giving alot to restaurants which earned me some brownie points. Even the more premium goods, i.e. 1er Bourgogne Rouges that I purchased because it was discounted, end up being flogged off as the quality of entry level Burgundy is pretty amazing. So, it's by no means a jab at you for buying discounted products, I am by far a bigger culprit at that, but rather how you will deal with it all later, particularly as some of the wines are not built to last.

I don't buy nearly as much as most people in here. I buy fairly expensive wine, but I also split plenty of deals with family or friends.

Most wine I buy has Cellar potential 10-20 years, so it doesn't concern me. I'm drinking bottles from 1995, that's why I buy to cellar. Infact, you'd be hard pressed finding me comment on any cheap $5-15 wines on the forum unless it's BWS clearance where it's been $40 down to $15-18. But I'm buying 2-3 bottles, not cases.

The LL $10 deal, was simply a one off and I slowly chew through them because like many others I'm not buying $5-10 wines monthly.

So, the answer to your question is quite simple. It's very easy to drink 20-30 bottles over a few years alone, let alone if I share with visitors.

So I really don't understand this discussion, because I'm not sure where you get this notion that I'm buying bucket loads of cheap wine which apparently I won't drink.

Anyways, please let this thread return to its purpose. I'm sure no one wants it clogged up.

Cousins from Sydney been travelling for 3 weeks in Qld (left before lockdown) and visited my parents tonight so we visited Dads cellar…we each picked a bottle

The standout was the 389 as I expected - whilst the St Henri was starting to be past prime.

I'm surprised that the St Henri is on the downhill slide already

So was I - a little surprised looking now at the tasting notes:

Maybe it's my dad's cellaring, but I had a small glass at the begining of the bottle and another couple of sips when bottle was two thirds empty. Both allowed to breathe but no decanting... who knows, because it's in the middle of the peak drinking window
