Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

In terms of climate winter does not necessarily mean the air is more humid. And summers do not necessarily mean that the air is more humid. It varies by location. Melbourne tends to be more humid in the colder months, drier in summer.

Whereas Sydney is the opposite.

Relative humidity is the amount of moisture in the air relative to the amount of moisture the air can hold. Warm air can hold a lot more moisture than cold air. Given the above figures, both Sydney and Melbourne have higher absolute humidity in summer than in winter.

Ended up calling again and the system is just not reliable. One person saying Pfizer is available (confirmed by my local network), person over the phone from the hotline saying there’s none so couldnt get booked. I’m now thinking, why don’t we have an online system to do this? (Upload docs to verify your eligibility) and so on. I have family in South America and the process has been impeccable.

I can’t just rock up for hours as I have a little human who depends on me but want to do the right thing... frustrating as!
Well I asked myself the same thing. Feels inefficient, but then again if people make appointments without being eligible, with doses already prepared to correspond to the number expected could lead to lots of potential wastage.

I believe that was debunked last year. You only need to look at how cases soared in South America (particularly Brazil) over the last summer to see hot temperatures dont kill the virus.

The reason winter cases rise in some colder climates is because of behaviours like congregating in doors with strangers and failing to keep physical distance.
And it's pretty hot in India, where COVID is raging. Living conditions must have a lot to do with it there.

The other named bars are more chill type bars where people hang out in groups with better spacing and more talking than dancing..
The expert I heard on ABC News Radio today (think it was Prof Toole of Doherty Institute) said that because of background noise in bars, people talk loudly/shout and that exacerbates spread.

Rumours circulating that a man who attended Marvel Stadium on Sunday has tested positive to COVID 19 today.

Not a rumour.
I wasn’t at the game and my reserved seats are in a different part of the ground but all members received something similar to this.

EXPOSURE SITE – MARVEL STADIUM
A positive case attended the Essendon/North Melbourne game at Marvel Stadium on Sunday, 23 May.
Individuals sitting on Level 1 between Aisles 5 and 28 or Level 3 in between Aisles 6 and 29 must get tested and stay isolated until they have received a negative result. The department is working with the AFL and Marvel stadium to contact spectators to provide this advice.
Some individuals with the closest contact to the positive case will be directly provided more specific advice from the Department of Health.
Others attending the stadium not located in these areas will be advised to check for symptoms and be tested if any develop.

I'd like to recant my earlier comments about common sense.....

Greater Melbourne travellers banned in SA from 6pm

Two thoughts on this - the irony of the likely source of the outbreak locking out the recipient of the spread, matched conversely by Victoria not accepting enough people into its own system and then whinging about an extremely unlucky situation in SA.

I feel sorry for the airlines again - wonder how ZL will cope with their first jet route border closure.

Marvel Stadium. The absolute worst because of the way you get funnelled in and out of there in huge tightly packed crowds through narrow spaces. :(

Lockdown inevitable.

You should be able to get the vaccine at your place of employment. In fact, you should have been able to do that at least a month ago.
I was but when AZ notification re safety came through it got halted as they don’t do Pfizer. My work does vaccinations but not everyone has that luxury (I.e. private practice allied health)

I wonder if they will exclude regional from metro for any lockdown. Seems like Bendigo is a problem so perhaps metro Melbourne plus Bendigo.

Humidity of the air is important, as that means that when the air is too dry that the droplets get smaller and the virus can then "float" and then travel further. Airborne spread rather than droplet spread. Droplets will tend to fall and thus not travel far. Whereas airborne (floating) can travel very long distance due to wind, stray currents etc As they are floating they can stay in the air for long periods thus increasing exposure time as it means that the transmitter and transmittee do not have to be there at the same time, whereas with droplet spread (ignoring fomite transmission which can also be time lagged) they do.
Makes sense. In the meat-works situation you have air that has been well chilled and thus lost moisture. First thing it encounters is a human breathing nice warm air, full of moisture and Covid. No wonder it spread.
In more tropical countries, higher temperatures, but a lot of moisture in the air. Also makes sense that it had every chance in WA and didn't succeed. WA summer is both hot and dry. ]
Note to airlines; keep that thermostat low and condense the moisture out!

Extracts from the Daily Vic DHHS Report:,

Of particular note is that this suspected case is not likely to be linked to the Wollert Man, but rather would be from another interstate HQ source.

Investigation into returned overseas traveller now in Ballarat

A returned traveller from overseas, who stayed in Hotel Quarantine interstate, presented to the Ballarat Health Service overnight and their COVID test result is currently under investigation.
Initial investigations suggest that this may be an historic case.
Further testing is being carried out today.
Out of an abundance of caution, the individual and their close contacts are isolating, as are staff who were directly in contact with them. All due processes have been followed with staff and the individual.
Also an ABC report:

Health authorities believe a case in Ballarat is shedding the virus

Health authorities in the regional Victorian city of Ballarat believe a person who returned a positive COVID-19 test after spending two weeks in hotel quarantine in another state is shedding the virus.
The case is not being counted in the Victorian figures and is not linked to the current outbreak in Melbourne's north.
The individual reported to the Ballart Health Service (BHS) overnight.
Close contacts are being isolated "out of an abundance of caution" the BHS said.
Further testing is underway.
"Initial investigations suggest that this may be a historic case," the health service said.
That's a reference to the process of shedding coronavirus fragments, often found in wastewater, after a positive case has recovered.
"Out of an abundance of caution the individual and their close contacts are isolating, including any staff and patients who are required to do so," the health service said in a statement.
"The person is being monitored in their home in the community.
"The Grampians Public Health Unit are undertaking contact tracing in this case."

Yes but RH is is the better indicator of the ability of air to dry.

However outside air is one thing, inside air is another, as what the measured outside air is may bear no relation to what the inside air of a building is.

NSW joins the club, thanks SA ;)
