I did research this a fair bit and I decided I was happy to:

I disagree with post 793 ... the issues reffered to in it already being refuted by 787 and 771.
I disagree with post 797. It does not understand the issues nor supply technical explanation to contradict the points made in post 793. Provide technical evidence to support the proposal.

I agree with others that I highly doubt it poses a security threat, but my personal fears preclude me from installing this app

I thought if I downloaded the App, it would be OK to congregate outdoors.
Yep the Melbourne protestor didn't have the app so no one knows who he was close to.i wonder if he has since downloaded it after testing positive.A major problem with the app.

I have had time to reflect upon the app and have not substantially altered my original opinion. It very much depends on circumstance and application.
Since the relaxation of Tasmanian mandatory detention for residents, I have been able to travel inter-state again; albeit at the price of quarantining when I return home. I have no problem with this. My personal assessment of the risk is that it is negligible but others may feel differently and I'm happy to respect their concerns.
With regard to the app, I have been considering it as I travelled. Realistically, excepting flights, there were no circumstances where I was in close proximity to a stranger for fifteen minutes. There were brief encounters, such as checking into a hotel, collecting a hire car, paying for fuel etc, etc. There were also work related contacts which were documented.
Looking back on my last trip, I would be able to give sufficient information to quickly identify everyone I came close to. Petrol station cashier, I couldn't give name and phone number but I could certainly give time and date. Only gap would be queuing for coffee in Mildura. More than 1.5 m and only about five minutes, but I was in proximity to unidentifiable strangers.
Had I been carrying the app and were subsequently tested positive, the only people who would have ticked the signal strength V time box, would have been those I met for work and possibly not all of those. My memory and travel receipts would have provided every other encounter. Obviously the app would be great if I was involved in a protest, or any other circumstance that threw me into prolonged contact with strangers. Little point for a solitary traveller, who was merrily avoiding company long before COVID!

Apparently the IOS form of this app is now causing Bluetooth issues for the watch/phone combination. Tell me again why they refuse to use Apple's built in API.

Not sure if this is the place to post this issue - I have an iPhone 7 Plus and downloaded the app as soon as it was released. I also have an iWatch - now to cut a long story short it seems that when I have CovidSafe running (foreground or background) my watch battery drains - going from 100% to low power in a couple of hours.

After spending an hour at the Apple Genius bar - I have been doing extensive testing keeping track of battery life on a spreadsheet - it's somewhat variable but so far with the app deleted my watch battery seems to be back to normal. I am continuing to test and monitor (so far I have about a week's data) before I report back to Apple ....

What I'm really asking here - has anyone else seen this issue? (Note it was Apple who suggested it was CovidSafe causing the issue with my watch battery - but they weren't really sure. I brought my watch in as I thought it was a hardware fault).

I haven't heard anything about the app in managing the current Victorian issue.
And I haven’t heard anything about the app in managing any State’s issue. Have I missed something?

I have an Apple Watch Hermès and iPhone and I haven’t noticed any battery issues. Not researched it thoroughly.

Reports of it's use from the ABC earlier this month saying it has been used but only 1 possible contact that had not already been identified by tracers. But that case turned out not to be a close contact

I have always thought the app was to detect the outliers - the people that an infected person did not even know they were near, or for memory failures.

If someone coughs or sneezes on/near you in a cafe/restaurant/bar, etc, and then moves on, the app will not be of any use for less than 15 minutes of close contact.

Do you think we all need body-worn camera etc then? The app would have helped with the Vic marcher who helpfully turned it off, and then spent more than 15 mins with fellow protesters.

I seem to remember there were a few sceptical people who were concerned that this bright idea could be like some of the other big bright utter failure government ideas. Robodebt anyone? So, now over 6 million downloads and not one case detected. Seemed like a good idea at the time. The app does still talk to me occasionally but doesn’t tell me anything useful.

The app was never going to tell you anything useful. It was only ever going to tell Health officials if you were asked to manually push the stored details to them.
