The "I am in self-isolation" thread

I'm worried that the new shutdowns will mean that Dan Murphy's will close!

One of our friends - who's not under quarantine- said he just drove past Uncle Dan's on Bell St and there's a crush happening. Surely booze is needed more than ever in the end times and won't be considered non-essential?:oops: Never really realised how dependant I am on it until threatened with complete abstinence.

One of the benefits in the UK of it being sold in supermarkets, is that such a problem does not exist!

I finally found a real quarantine order. This is the NSW one - link at the bottom of the travellers page.

Looks like (c)(iii) means you can collect the mail, go out for a drive, etc. :)

5 Direction of the Minister
(1)The Minister directs that a person who arrives in New South Wales and who has, within 14 days immediately before that arrival, been in a country other than Australia must do the following—
(a) travel from the point of arrival in New South Wales to premises suitable for the person to reside in during the quarantine period.
(b) except in exceptional circumstances, reside in the premises during the quarantine period,
(c) not leave the premises during the quarantine period except—
(i) for the purposes of obtaining medical care or medical supplies, or
(ii) because of an emergency, or
(iii) in circumstances where the person is able to avoid close contact with other persons
(d) not permit any other person to enter the premises during the quarantine period unless the other person—
(i) usually resides at the premises, or
(ii) is also complying with this direction for the same quarantine period, or
(iii) enters the premises for medical purposes or because of an emergency.
(e) otherwise comply with the NSW Health Self Isolation Guidelines during the quarantine period.

Family member arrived last night on the last EK flight to Adelaide. Everyone had their temperature checked before they were allowed to disembark. He's now in isolation in a small cabin in the foothills. His MIL packaged up food for two weeks and his FIL is getting the computer sorted. Day 1 done.

Pretty sure that (iii) is only applicable if you are doing (i) or (ii)
The 'or's between (i) & (ii) and (ii) & (iii) refutes that. i.e. (i) or (ii) or (iii).
(c) not leave the premises during the quarantine period except—
(i) for the purposes of obtaining medical care or medical supplies, or
(ii) because of an emergency, or
(iii) in circumstances where the person is able to avoid close contact with other persons

This thread is quite helpful in knowing we are not alone. Today we are at halfway in our 14 day home confinement. Delivery drop offs have been helpful and a few phone calls each day have helped.. We can work from home but we are expecting business to go pretty quiet with the new rules .
We will be getting several manufacturing projects started and the slump in the $AUD is helping.
Mrscove is asleep so all calm over here in Perth. I do plan to get out in the sun today for a little while.

So the daily solo walk or run is definitely allowed.
I expect so. Just don't go anywhere near people, enclosed spaces, and don't touch anything that others might touch like door handles, even sculptures and signs etc. And don't use public toilets. Unless you are far far away from anyone, don't raise a sweat!

These are State rules so we can only leave our home to handle pressing medical issues. In Perth we have our exercise bike out on the big balcony so we can see the passing parade of folks fishing, wading ,walking and riding. Our road surface is being fully re-sealed and the workers are really taking their time. We have 4 black swans and some dolphins enjoying our river.

Looks like the VIC rules have a similar clause:

You must not leave the premises, except:
  • for the purposes of obtaining medical care or medical supplies
  • in an emergency situation
  • in circumstances where it is possible to avoid close contact with other persons.
To be honest, I think the purpose of this clause is to allow you to put out bins, check mail and go into your yard. Going for a walk or a run is a bit dicey, especially if there was a spot check or a neighbour saw you leaving the premises. I wouldn't mind taking my daughter to the park, but that park is connected to a school and I am certain this would be the wrong thing to do. That said, perhaps after Tuesday when it is all shut down, maintaining significant social distancing?

I think if that's what they meant, that's what they would have said. You can 'go into your yard' in every case, as its part of "the premises". I was happily gardening yesterday, and waved to one of my neighbours across the road who was doing the same. Not even a fence between us :)

Hopefully people don't take that as an invite to go to the Maccas drive thru

I think we went to McDonalds to get granny a soft serve ice cream with a flake in it within the last 12 months. Wouldn’t miss them if they close.
