Wow they must be eager for money, guys watch out for the minimum $1000 spend per statement period.

Have no minimum spend on my Gold - fee free for life card. [I remember it took me a lot of wangling to find a link that worked] Still to confirm this arrangement is so on the Platinum card.

Sorry guys my bad. Sneaky footnotes and T and C's.

I've got a friend that is interested in a credit card with free international travel insurance and no annual fee (at least for the first year). Any suggestions?

I cant find it online, but can I just confirm that the travel insurance on this gold card is only valid for flights purchased on the gold visa citibank card?

That's correct. Mileage redemptions are also not covered.

I don't have the T&Cs right in front of me but there is a link somewhere in the thread and the Citi policies differ in this condition from the policy I had with my ANZ card.

That's how I understood it, I think it only changed to include flights booked by points around a year or 18mths ago, because I rang them to confirm. I believe that they are one of the few that provides this cover for points redemptions

No, cover for flights booked via point redemptions has been included for many years.

However, the cover for loss of most personal valuables such as cameras, computers, iPods etc has been tightened to the extent that it is now all but worthless. For example, you are not covered if you leave your items in a public place, which is defined to include hotels, airports, train stations, airplanes, trains, buses, taxis, shops and a whole lot more. When travelling, where else would you be likely to lose something for crying out loud?!!

I once had a small claim on the Zurich-underwritten Citi Visa insurance. I lost some good-quality sunnies in Sri Lanka, probably left on a seat at a train station. Fortunately the above conditions weren't in the policy back then. However, the requirement to report the loss to local police within 24 hours and obtain a copy of the police report was a policy condition back then, as it is today. Zurich did not pursue me about this. My claim was promptly and pleasantly paid (although there was a 4-page form to complete).

The police reporting requirement can be onerous. In Indonesia, for example, the queue at the police station will be long (pay $$$ to jump it), the reporting procedure will be slow (pay $$$ to speed it up) and the copy of the report will be expensive (buy the coppas a new photocopier to get it free?). The cost and hassle of getting the police report is most likely to far out-weigh the value of the lost item - so the insurance companies win - unless the claim is small, in which case they will likely pay up to keep you quiet.

Hello, is there anyone got succeed to apply for this card (no annual fee forever) recently? I have tried all of threads, none of them are avaiable, it seems citi has disconnected all of links that someone wants to get that one.

I even tried to call customer service center and was told this promotion had been expired two years ago???

I signed up in March 2008 [8 months ago] for the Fee Free Gold card, and was updated to Platinum just over a month ago. I had difficulty finding a link, and ended up only successful through using one on another thread (??? - not sure which one) here. [Note some of the links on AFF tfrd you to Citibank, but the URL's were not 'active'. One i found was].

Good on you, but as I said I have tried all of threads which pasted on this topic, all of them are no longer available, they are all transferred to citibank's main website in QZ. I believe there are too many people tried these links and citi has felt sick about people calling them to ask the same question.

I wish this promotion will come back again but during the economic crisis, citi wants the money very badly at the moment.:-|

I managed to get the free free for life as well as 4.9% for the life of the balance transfer... the card was upgraded to Plat last month - free free and 4.9% as well.

Fee Free is nice, but in some respects the issue is a few hundred dollars [always better in your pocket understandably, and the peace of mind that it will not hit at a bad time], but we - holders of the card - need to be thankful Citibank are not calling in all the debts outstanding on the card, because they have gone under. Fee Free should be the smaller of your concerns.

Been bailed out. Too big to be let go under methinks.

Have seen the news on the web, citi will cut 2500 employees in Australia to save the cost. They may consider starting charging any fees they can put on you.

Oh yes Mark. Thanks for the clarification and current status :) - i was hypothesising - and selfishly thinking of myself  and how most of my family's last trip to Paris [wife shopping and 5* hotels] have been supported by Citibank - about how i could attempt to pay it all off quickly.

Despite the so-called government guarantees (both in the US and Australia), I am reviewing my banking exposure to Citi. I have far more $$$ invested with Citi than cash outstanding on my Citi Visa.

The bank can still go under. If that happens it gets messy for depositors to claim their funds back under the guarantee. Depositors probably would not lose their money but they might not have immediate access to funds and they could miss out on receiving interest while the mess gets resolved. Receivers would likely shut down the high cash-drain assets like staff and IT quick smart so it would become a headache to pay out depositors in the short term - given that key systems could be shut down in a flash.

I don't believe either the US or Australian government guarantees go as far as to guarantee that it will be business as usual at Citi (ie you will be able to get withdraw your money on demand) if the bank fails.
