My reference to Kuta was just an example. Aussies behaving badly is also bigger than one particular destination. I don’t think you can point the finger at any one country more than another.

I lived in China for many years. My experience couldn’t be more different from yours, it seems.

The list goes on...... hardly what one would call a "glowing review"?

So it was scheduled for 1630? ;):D
Actually, it started off as being a potential nightmare..... originally scheduled for 1755, then I received a notification from JQ that it was rescheduled to 1840. So I cancelled my pick-up in BNE because I didn't want my brother to be waiting around in case it was further delayed. I still went to the airport at the same time anyway - and just as well - because they had re-rescheduled back to its original time (but without telling anyone), and then it actually in BNE early. So that sucked.... but the flight itself was good. Crew were nice. Not too crowded. Spare seat next to me.

I think some people need to remember that this post is called "let-us-know-your-most-outrageous-thoughts-on-any-topic-about-flying".... it really isn't a place for the PC police to be lurking :)

Nothing to do with PC... but characterizing your own opinion as ‘absolute fact’, well that’s difficult to reconcile with purported ‘Intelligence’, ‘Business’ or otherwise.

No shortage of anecdotal evidence about Aussies behaving badly in Japan, but it would be stupid to try and claim that as proof of anything.

Once again.... I invite you to enlighten us. The "evidence" (if we can accept reputable news reporting as evidence?) seems to suggest otherwise.

Nobody has claimed that "Aussies are not behaving badly" - if you go back through the conversation, it started with people explicitly talking about Chinese tourists... being a discussion, others chimed in. If you want to start a separate discussion about Aussies behaving badly please do - I am sure everyone will participate and agree with you! Even if, when all the evidence is reviewed, the consensus is that Aussies are in fact the worst behaved in the world, it does not negate the original discussion that Chinese tourists are also awful. Both things can be true at once you know!

I agree that when I travel to Japan, I hate Aussie tourists. Probably more a cultural cringe than anything truly terrible. Yet I struggle to find examples as bad as those that people have been discussing, or as detailed as those in the many many many news stories with regard to the Chinese....

I wasn't clear with my question, I should have phrased it "how delayed was it?" … then, because you said the flight wasn't bad, you were going to answer that it wasn't, to which I would respond that you must have been mistaken & were not on JQ.

But with your explanation here, you were definitely on JQ. :)

I would like the tax component of cancelled airfares to be refunded.

I would also like all airlines to charge the same amount of taxes/fees for a reward ticket as for a revenue ticket. That's when the agro started.

Or the airlines could NOT charge the customer any/less fees for redemption tickets. :) I've already paid the taxes/fees/blah blah when buying a ticket and don't want to pay again when I redeem.

It could be a way for airlines to say thank you for paying for flexible J seats all your life, here's an ACTUAL free ticket, no fees, no $ involved, just your points and that's it :D

Ok, I've had a few beers. So, here's a totally outrageous thought:

What if an airline took every other airlines currency and upgrade bids were ALWAYS accepted - as long as there were spare seats? In other words - as long as there was seat availability in the selected cabin - what would be the worst thing that could happen if passengers threw a bid or points at it? It should work just like an auction with a reserve - as long as you've met the minimum, your chances of success should be governed by the seats left and any bids above yours, NOT whether the airline wants to release seats or not. And let's not forget that many redemption flights are often combined with paying fares.

Now I know Platinum Status has no voice here, but the concept of status has had it's reign. It probably needs to be redefined. Times are changing. As is global currency.

Abstract thinking is the way to survice in unchartered economic territory. There is always another Google or Apple moment, when someone sees the need to fill that niche market.

cough. Where's my beer?.............

Welcome to US-based carrier operations. Their upgrade system is pretty much as you describe.

As is CX's - they will release every seat in a cabin leading up to the flight (like F5 on a TPAC).

The upgrade lottery is uniquely Australian. Oh. I guess we could call that a QF innovation?

I think this lady has the last words on outrageous thoughts on flying.
“There is one irritant that is often ignored and this is the level of farting within the aircraft. There are passengers, who literary irritate fellow passengers by passing bad smell and uncomfortable fart. If there is anyone given irritant that makes people fight on board, it is the fart, it is terrible within the plane.”

Hey! Leave QF alone, alright? They are amazing and excellent, and anything mean you say about them is akin to being un-Australian

I think we need to start a new thread called "Qantas Safe Space" - where people can praise the national carrier, not necessarily with accurate information, but no one can comment or challenge them. A totally safe space. A one-way conversation, when we can reflect on how much our heart strings are tugged every time the flying Kanagroo flies overhead..... and how GOOD were those ads with the children's choir???? AMAZING. We should arrange a screening night for that too

@clipped_wings how dare you suggest such a thing, what will happen to the DWKYIA types. As for your beer it is most likely in the same place my wine ran away too. :)

I have farted on a plane.

There. I've said it.

Max it is just wrong to post such a ridiculous suggestion in this outrageous thread. :p

I will categorically state that I have never farted on a plane, however on several occasions some other rude bugger has farted in my pants . When I catch him, I am going to give him a very stern talking too.
