Libs not immune from factional cough:

Jim Molan records highest Senate vote in federal election

NSW Liberal senator Jim Molan has polled more than 112,000 first preferences votes in the federal election making the politician with the highest personal vote in the country, but he still might not return to the Australian parliament.

Senator Molan ran a controversial below-the-line campaign to get back into the senate after he was relegated to an unwinnable spot by the NSW Liberal Party factions and despite the success of that campaign, it may not be high enough threshold.

The former army major-general has told The Australian his vote may be one of the highest personal votes for any politician in the nation’s history, and it has convinced him to stick with politics.

“I accept the existence of factions but the power to choose candidates must lie with the members of the party, not with factions, controlled groups or processes,” Senator Molan said.

“I conducted myself in a highly disciplined way and that was acknowledged to me by party leadership.

“As well, Liberal leaders have said publicly that I did nothing wrong, but just worked very hard for the re-election of the state and federal government, which I did.”

Other candidates to fill Senator Sinodinos’s spot include defeated Gilmore candidate Warren Mundine and former Liberal MP Fiona Scott.

Labor did the same thing in Tas. Lisa Singh was put in an 'unwinnable' spot at the double dissolution election, put in a great personal campaign, and got in. She was put back to unwinnable spot in this election and even though she out-polled most of the other Labor candidates on primaries, she missed out.

I hope Molan sues that sleazy scumbag Trent Zimmerman like he's threatened to do - Zimmerman is a factional hack who is responsible for a lot of the ills that plague the NSW Libs.

Reports on TV that they will push the button to allocate preferences today (although being a public holiday I do wonder).

Tas, ACT & NT finalised with she of the soulful voice, Jackie Lambie, elected in Tas.

Interesting that because Senator Singh polled 5.8% of the vote below the line the green Senator McKim was elected 4th. At the final exclusion of Senator Singh, Lambie was a head on primary vote but the 2nd Labor senator came 5th and Lambie was then were elected.

The one nation candidate was left stranded with 25,000 votes and it was interesting to know that the exhausted rate was just 6627 ( out of 351,000) across the entire state which was much smaller than I had expected.

PS 150 of the house of reps seats have been declared this leaves just one to go

NSW results now in.

Expected results are the reality.

LNP 3 ALP 2 Greens 1

One nation left with 2/3 a quota - no cigar

All the Senate preference distributions now up on the AEC site with CLP picking up 3 in Qld. And ALP only 1.

This gives LNP 35 less Senate President 34
Bernardi 1 ( Will you to rejoin the liberals?)
One Nation 2
Total 37

Balance of Power
Centre Alliance 2
Lambie 1

Greens 9
ALP 26
Total 35

For LNP, THEY stand to win 20 if returned to Govt in 2022 giving them absolute majority as they won 19 this time and if not for Lambie woulda won 20

For Labor, if returned to Govt, they will ALWAYS need the GREENS

At least nobody won with fraction of a per cent votes this time like Ricky Muir etc. Seems like the new Senate voting system has done its job of getting rid of micro-parties fluking their way in.
