Political beliefs are a polarising subject , many would agree with @ Isonchronous intent, if not the abrasive phrasing.
OT..but I expected Jessica's post to be a mod hat end of game post and opine that the quality of discussion is now so banal that an end is appropriate

The Standard you walk past, is the Standard you accept

If the consensus is the comment in question is fine, I'm going to give thought to leaving this site and not returning. I don't expect anyone here to care, but I suspect I'm not the only person on this site who wouldn't be here if they thought it was a comment worthy of being here.

As far as bringing it back to the election - it reminds me of Abbott and co. going on stage at that infamous rally with certain signs being prominently displayed. He's had his time, and we'll be better served by politicians who don't associate themselves with such messages.

I'm certainly done with this thread.

And Bill Shorten absolutely and unequivocally rejected the Labor Death Tax Lie as soon as it emerged from the cesspit of the alt-right. So what did the Coalition do? They rode that sucker all the way to the polls with a win at all costs glee that only the soulless would support.

Do you see @Moody the pointlessness of that type of argument? Sure you can make that argument .. and I can make the same one about Labor's 'Mediscare' campaign. It was rejected by the Libs as soon as it was made, but Labor rode that sucker all the way to the polls, yada yada yada.

I know most politics is a bit grubby; I know that "my side" can be economical with the truth. But can you recognise the same about 'your side"? Its the hypocrisy and cant I can't stand, or just the blindness of one side to the reality of political life and the constant moronic claiming of purity of one side and evilness of the other. In this, the Greens are absolutely the worst hypocrites of all ... but I would say that, wouldn't I? :)

It's Abbott's fault.... like everything else in this World ;)

Of course it is. And if its not Abbott's fault, its Howards. And don't get me started about Menzies or even Murdoch, who personally dictates all the editorials!! Sheesh!

Once the final makeup of parliament is decided it's not really a relevant thread anymore IMO.

The AFF leadership team have discussed the thread in the lead up to the election (check post #1).
This thread will be closed once the new Parliament Convenes.

Thinking about the election result, Queensland and Western Australia were the biggest winners for Scott Morrison. Bob Brown going to Queensland was a huge help as mining jobs were on the line. The belief that five seats could go Labor just did not happen in Western Australia as jobs are a big focus.
I am expecting Victoria to stumble in the next 2 years as their population ponzi runs out of money with Andrews pushing up taxes and businesses giving up. This may take a while but I expect a pretty good downturn seeing industry is leaving.

Please limit discussion in this thread to the topic. That is, the 2019 federal election.

Take further discussion on general climate change issues offline/elsewhere.

It is disappointing that I have to remind members of the previous direction!

Looks likely to be LNP 77, ALP 68 with Macquarie staying with ALP and Bass to Libs. Still seems a way to go with the Senate.

A special thank you to Bob Brown, Clive Palmer, Pauline Hanson and of course Bill Shorten is now in order.
The Labor idea of raising lots of taxes in a weak period for our economy was pretty scary.
I was pleased to hear that CBA has been rushed with home loan applications which I view as some confidence returning to the market place.

Nah ... last election ALP won 14 seats ... this election they notionally lost a nett 3 seats.

Thats a change in differential of 17 seats against the ALP.

Aaah, statistics hey? Can make them say whatever you want....
