2019 Federal Election Discussion

In the West we have Chevron still working on their carbon capture systems on the huge LNG plants. When that gets going Western Australia’s figures will be much better.
Its an interesting technology. Semi - permeable membrane CO2 separation and injection back into gas wells. Appears that pipe corrosion is an issue.
Is this at Gorgon?

Or it could be argued that the number of deaths have fallen because there are now opportunities to evacuate people from areas where natural disasters are about to occur?

For example, there was a mass evacuation earlier this month with >1 million people moved out of the path of a cyclone. In 1999, 10,000 people died in a cyclone in the affected area. In the 2019 cyclone 16 people died.

So the event occurred but the death toll was dramatically reduced using lessons learnt and massive resources.

However, the cyclone still occurred so just counting deaths is not the true story about the frequency or severity of climate related events. The cost of the evacuation and resultant lost productivity hasn't been counted.

That is exactly the point. The doomsayers have not taken into account that technology has improved so that deaths from Climate have decreased.Very likely technology will continue to improve.Again this drop has occurred even though many more people have been exposed to severe weather events.
The true story with severe weather events is that for the last 100 years there has been a slow decline in frequency without an increase in severity.I have posted those figures before.

Conclusion.Climate Change is not going to kill us all in the next 12 years.

That's just remarkable, especially as he would have seen the cameras right in front of him.

In fact it's so monumentally stupid I wonder if it might have been digitally 'created'? Wonder why it wouldn't have come out before election Day.
It was put out before the election. The MSM just didn't pick it up.

I think it may start at Gorgon and when successful they will do Wheatstone but I could have that wrong. Both projects are massive and are winners for Western Australia. I think you will see a huge favorable reversal of fortune in the West with LNG, iron ore and a successful harvest in the south west. WA is likely to be one of the few States to be reducing its debt over the next few years.

A day after announcing his candidature, Bowen pulls out of the Labor leadership race. Apparently he's come to the conclusion that he's unlikely to win.  What a difference 24 hours makes!

The QLD guy Chalmers looks OK - a bit green (oops, let me rephrase that .. a bit inexperienced), but if he contests, and loses, then puts his hand up for next time.

As for Albo - well, as a Lib supporter (usually :) ) he's my choice too for Labor leader. Our own Jeremy Corbyn?

lol, when they finally get it right, it will be too late for us then

The problem is the predictions you see from the Greens etc have no basis in fact.Every cyclone, hurricane etc they say is due to Climate Change. The IPCC reports meanwhile say there is little confidence that frequency or severity will increase.
I have also posted the Lancet article showing deaths at different temperatures and whether you live in Bangkok or Stockholm you are more likely to die if the temperature is below normal than above normal. So just how is it going to kill us all?

So did Bill shift his support from Tanya to Chris?

So did Bill shift his support from Tanya to Chris?

Yes, he did. SMH:

The activities of Mr Shorten - who beat Mr Albanese for the leadership in 2013 - have shocked some colleagues who say he is "up to his neck in it" and should stay out of the selection process.

"He was initially ringing people around the country urging them to vote for Tanya. He has also been actively lobbying people making sure someone runs against Albo," said one senior MP.

Chalmers was CoS to the World’s greatest treasurer... the ALP talent pool is not deep.

Chalmers was CoS to the World’s greatest treasurer... the ALP talent pool is not deep.

Chalmers is Swans pet, Swan is now the President of the Federal ALP, my prediction is the deals will be done and factions arranged for Chalmers to beat Albo despite the party membership itself being very supportive of Albo, this will be followed by a very lengthy "Rudd-esque" media honeymoon without any scrutiny.

I have a degree of scepticism around the whole Climate Change religion, because in my work (nothing to do with climate change) , I see how truths and data are distorted by those who have a particular (shall we say green) dogma, studies are designed to produce pre-determined results, any work by government or industry is completely discounted and application of this dogma is actually creating differents sorts of risks in different communities (particularly away from the affluent parts of the world). As a result, I remain I am extremely sceptical of anything that is subject to religious like fervour and green campaigns specifically designed for their fundraising value, and from what I can tell climate change movement is no different.

But I also don't subscribe to the opposite dogma . There's I am sure some good things happening as a result of the climate change actions - that probably have some positive effects on society and the environment, even if they have zero effect on climate change. Need to take a pragmatic, measured approach to a whole range of issues - rather than all or nothing approach of those beholden to particular outlooks or dogmas.

read this ,

"The search leader, California businessman Jim Salazar, told Live Science that the team found the wrecked P-38 on July 4 beneath more than 300 feet (91 meters) of ice using a ground-penetrating radar "

2019-1942 = 77 years, covered by 300 feet of ice.... Greenland, polar ice melting ? climate change anyone ??

SMH now has it a 77 and the numbers for #78 are inching higher for the LNP.

Pretty clear the result will be 78 for the LNP. That should cover no shows and a renegade or two. Those lower house IND are now just seat warmers:)

Charmers for worlds greatest shadow treasurer

But what about the science, they say! All those scientists!

...well, as a scientist, and working with scientists for years, let me tell you they are not all the white-coat clad purists anyone might think. "Just follow the (grant) money ..."

Plus, nearly all the 'science' that gets reported and quoted back and forth are models/modeled results .. and anytime you have a model, you have (selected) model inputs and assumptions.
