Can someone please explain why Q staff allow Y passengers to use J toilets on a regular basis?
Not meaning to rant but this is becoming an absolute joke and needs to be attended to by Qantas.
My reasoning:
J passengers pay a privilege to not wait for toilets. (and have dedicated facilities)
J passengers pay for a better seat, food, drinks and service.
Food service is disrupted when Y passengers come into the J cabin.
Status when in Y does not give J privileges.
Toilet location announcement is made by CSM to all pax and who has use of said toilets.
Y pax having been given this directive by CSM are breaching airline policy and directly disobeying Q staff when using J toilets.(which in any other circumstance affords severe penalty)

Would love to hear opinions on this (fully understanding disabled/elderly pax warrant exemption)
TIA :)

We flew J back from NZ last year with our kids. My poor daughter had to wait while at least 10 whY pax used the toilet - and in the end the FA finally held back the tide and let her us the toilet - only to get nasty comments from whY about her pushing in.

FWIW I had told the FA she needed to use the toilets 20 minutes earlier and she was told to wait as there was a queue.

If they enforeced the no whY in J toilets from the start of the flight it woudln't have been an issue.

When I travel in whY I def don't expect to be able to use the J toilets.

I think that apart from some CL/P1/WP who feel entitled to use the toilet in J because they are very special people, most of the time it's the FA in Y that are sending PAX to the J cabin while the troley is the the aisle. I'm still not sure why QF removed the curtain between Y and J, but I think that contributes to the problem...

Agreed. During food service it's near impossible to get past the cart so the front toilets are the only feasible option for many people, unless they do the whole trolley shuffle every time which is probably more annoying for business class passengers and delays the service

That said I've never seen a queue.

In addition to Y passengers, the FA is also party to the problem here. If you've said 20 mins earlier that your daughter needed to use the toilet and it doesn't make any sense why the FA would let anyone from Y use J loos when a paid J customer is waiting.

QF has to take note of things like these. IMHO, simple things like these, among many things make or break the experience of flying J

I recently see the same...

in QF NZ flights - especially on the 737, it happens. I guess that gent is on the first Y bulkhead row he probably is a WP and P1, given the FAs will know who seats where and they might had a status small talk chat already it is very hard to shout him back to the Y toilet all the way to the back...

I do see different treatment for other normal Y pax… which means if you have high status, and the crew know, they probably let you use it...

just a question, does the FA knows that a pax is a staff on the ipad ?

Agreed
Perhaps the magnetic rope would solve the problem.
Understand that Qantas want to keep the cabin open with no curtain but flying J means you get the extra privileges incl. toilets for that cabin class sole use.
Does having status (which seems predominantly the pax using J toilets from Y) also mean you can disobey a directive from Q staff?
I cannot see anywhere in Qantas T & C that status gives Y pax access to J or the capacity to ignore staff direction which is clearly stated over the audio system.
Once other Y pax see access is allowed it becomes open slather.

Want to know why QF allow this bad practice to continue?
Same reason they allow non-status pax to queue up and go through priority boarding lane, because they don’t care!
It’s easy to just let it go rather than arguing with pax sending them all the way back to Y toilets or telling them to queue up again in the correct line.

Understand and agree it seems that training is needed to stop this practice.
When asked to put my device in flight mode can I ignore this directive?
When asked to remain seated until we are at the stand to depart can I ignore this?
Effectively can I ignore on plane audio announced directives by the CSM as is seemingly allowed for status pax?

I don't recall any advertising and marketing for J that mention J toilets are reserved for J passengers.
When did J passengers get the expectations that waiting for toilets is not a J thing?
If the Y passengers are told at the beginning that the main cabin toilets are at the rear and then later they come to the front and the CSM does not stop them, then that can be assumed to be tacit permission to use the front toilets.

As I said before I have used F,W,Y toilets when J (and J when Y). So I am very happy for Y passengers to come up to use J toilets. Did not get a finger wag from CSM ot cabin crew either.

I suspect that this continues because very few actually complain about this and also the PB non-issue. QF has been known to change dress code on the basis of customer feedback about the lounges. but the non action in this matter maybe points to the fact that very few see it as an issue.

In the 737 there is a small metal sign that says "Business only beyond this point" or something similar. One could interpret that as a restriction towards using J toilet when flying Y.
Well the curtain is generally seen as a barrier and exists on all the mainline's aircraft. But my comment was more about passenger expectations. I think the cabin crew take a more relaxed attitude about the toilets which IMO is the better stance to take. Ive gone through the curtains in the past without any issue.
Once Ive asked nicely and was able to use the F toilets when I was in Y (A380). :p:p:p

Unfortunately taking this attitude is where the problem lies - SO IMO - pay for Y - stay in Y, Pay for J stay in J, pay for F do what you want!.
When travelling in Y I would deem it RUDE to expect that the J toilets are also for my use plus the feeling of not wanting to be seen or viewed by other passengers as "entitled".(knowing I haven't paid for or used points to have access amplifies this)
It's the same analogy of all the complaints for non-eligible people using the priority check in lane. Sure it's "just" another check in lane, it's "just" a bathroom, who cares. This is what's wrong with the thought process of many people in Aust.
(to quote from another forum with a similar thread showing this is a problem for many)
Have some respect, do the right thing. There are many countries around the world where people do the right thing, without ever being policed, as it all comes down to the thought process and respect for fellow man.

The trick is to discreetly ask nicely. I always ask nicely, and only use another class' toilets when allowed. Ive been allowed more times than not. Ive even been allowed to use the 'ladies' only toilets on the VA 777 one time.

Its the AFF philosophy after all - how to get to the pointy end without having to pay for it...o_O

Agree - asking is fine in appropriate circumstances - expecting is not.
The main point is Qantas not enforcing the rule of course - disrupting higher paying pax during meal service and maintaining extra privilege at the high price point for J.

I agree with this. It really shouldn't disrupt the cabin. I don't mind a quick pass through to get to the J toilet on a short flight. But a long queue is not acceptable.... which I have seen.
