Why OH Y? [Y PAX using J lavatories]

I've been explicit told, individually, by the CSM to use the front toilet when travelling in economy. Can I ignore that crew direction?
Personally, I hate the front toilet on a 737 and have used the rear toilets when travelling in business. Where do I stand in ignoring the crew direction in that situation under your rules?
When directed by crew you adhere to it.

Not excuses, just stating the existing reality
I think in the end the cabin crew are not all that fussed so long as all passengers are reasonable and courteous.
It’s amazing what can be achieved with that.

There is no QF rule on who can use which toilets or which overhead storage compartment. It’s even less of an entitlement than Priority Boarding - at QF says that’s is an explicit benefit (thousr variously enforced.

If I am allowed access to a higher cabin Toilet, I see it an a operational upgrade granted by the CSM. Pay Y does not mean stay in Y. Free Upgrades are sometimes granted. I include toilet access as one. (Not that the premium toilets are actually that premium)

There is a rule (as pointed out above).

Me, I do my best to avoid the lav full stop

As do I!

I have actually never ever used the toilet on a domestic flight, and on the short SYD/MEL runs Im constantly perplexed by the sheer number of passengers needing to access the facilities on a < 90 min flight. Surely it is more pleasant to go in the lounge or terminal before boarding?

On Long Haul (even LHR-PER or DFW to SYD) I will go only once, always in the middle when most are asleep and usually just after I've seen the staff clean them.

And I must be odd, as I always stick within my own cabin class, and would assume the only time things might change is if the toilet/s in your cabin were not functioning.

When directed by crew you adhere to it.

It is extreme overreach to suggest there is any crew direction about using the toilet. The fact is you simply do not know what has happened with a particular passenger, it is very common for crew to tell economy pax to use the front toilet.

If it offends you so much just push in on the interlopers from economy. I've also done that when in business and I just had to go.

Some of the responses expand to the logic that it's OK to ask when in the QP - can I please use the Business Class lounge toilets?
Cabin class areas are defined for a reason by Qantas which provides the logic to the overall argument.

Sorry for the misunderstanding - I was referring to the Y pax being directed by crew to use J toilet.
The point is that you shouldn't have to push in, have your meal service delayed or fight for o/head space in J and ultimately this would never be a problem if pax stayed within their purchased cabin class.

In my experience this is primarily a 737 problem. FWIW I do hear the cabin crew making a PA that the economy toilets are at the back fairly regularly, if not always. Unlike other aircraft the pax at the front of economy can see the J toilet, its just there, so I can understand their desire to use it, rather than walk to the back. There is also the problem of toilet ratios on the 737, fine for the east coast hops, but trans Tasman and Perth become a problem. 737 in Y has 1 toilet per 81 pax, compare that to 332 1 per 49, 333 1 per 45. This means the queue down the back is generally longer, and there is nowhere for pax to queue, the economy queue inevitably gets in the way of the cabin crew down the back. I imagine it is probably easier for the crew to let people use the J toilet than lengthen the queue down the back.

I have never heard a cabin crew PA that says Y passengers must only use Y toilets.
Until they do it’s a matter of asking nicely

Asking is actually not wrong so long you accept the answer. People try to get into Lounges without an entitlement - by asking lounge angels - nothing wrong with that.

Yes but they don’t say “Y passengers are not allowed to use J toilets”.
They also dont say, Y passengers are not allowed to use a J seat or J meal or J food.

What part of "forward toilet is for Business class passengers" is difficult to understand?

Are you a Business Class Passenger? >>>>>>> No>>>>>> Then the forward toilet is not for you.

Problem is the people that see a benefit, want the benefit but dont want to pay (points or $) for the benefit.

Everyone thinks their reasons are special but the reality is its more often a want than a need.

When I was a Y pax, I wouldnt dream of imposing myself into other areas that I havent paid for the use of

Will say, I love the posts on Facebook when people say its discrimination to not be allowed to use the forward toilets

Next time Im flying J, Im going to toddle my butt up to the F or Residence and grab myself a set of PJs and a shower/toilet break in F because they didnt tell me not to use the F cabin (and its many other benefits). :p

If the magic rope doesn’t stop them the FA’s sure as hell will. See numerous pax get turned back on most flights and can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a Y pax be allowed to use the front loo on a VA flight

I hear the announcement EVERY flight that front toilets are for J pax and rear toilets for Y pax.

I rarely travel in J but usually sit row 4 and have NEVER used the front loo. It actually pisses me off (no pun intended!) when I see Y pax head for the J loo and the CSM or crew just let them through. I can follow instructions, why can't others? Send the first few back and you will stop the rest I reckon.

They also dont say, Y passengers are not allowed to use a J seat or J meal or J food.

Actually they do, the boarding pass clearly states the seat you're allowed to use. They serve food based on the seat where you're sat. The crew do often serve business wine, and sometimes food, to people in economy.

The statement above was/what I was responding to was, "they don’t say “Y passengers are not allowed to use J toilets”. Not what FAs decide to do during a flight.

Ive seen the FAs direct a Y pax to sit in a J seat on boarding but its not up to the pax to decide for themselves what they will use or take.

I was just pointing out that they do actually tell you what seat you can use. That's why i quoted your post, which is a bit of misdirection. It's not the same thing

Imagine throwing exorbitant amounts of cash to QF because you want the 'privilege' of a boring - often tired - toilet to be shared with 11 other people on a ~3hr flight or less!

...and you think its worth it and continue to pay for it!
