QF bars religious leaders from Chairman's Lounge

Someone I know was given CL membership when he got a 12 month term as the president of a national peak body. And then QF kept renewing his CL membership for another 4-5 years after his term as president had expired, long after he had ceased to have any national influence. So I think the memberships are probably ripe for a review and cull.

And don't get me started on the politicians' other halves who get CL access via their spouse, are allowed CL access even when travelling without said spouse for their own private work trips, and make sure everyone they work with knows they are allowed to take guests into the CL and that if you're lucky (or suck up to them enough) they'll choose you as their guest. (Backfired badly re one supervisor who informed the politician's spouse 'thank you very much but I'll be going into the J lounge with Anna' because she had no idea what the CL even was and thought the J lounge was better :D)

These days Adams writes one column a week, which no-one reads. Qantas made a correct decision in this case.

well I thinbk tat all things considered, he has an inextricable link with the Roo, and if for no other reason he could have been retained as a CL .

I would have thought that as politicians they need to be accessible to the national constituency , albeit in the rarefied air of the DOM J lounge.
But I guess that exposes them to potential ongoing harassment and frankly i too would want to be somewhere quiet and unobtrusive.

Well he has been found guilty and sentenced. Other people haven’t even done anything like that and have been cut out.

I'm not referring to his CL membership, I am referring to his excommunication as mentioned by you.
As of Marh 14th he hadnt been excommunicated so Im guessing something mst have happened more recently which I missed

Sorry, my bad, I was using it in the CL sense, hence the comment re him not needing access as he’s not currently flying.

Newish Qantas Chairman in Goyder.
Not surprising that the list gets a bit of a rejig.

My prior understanding of most corporates is it's $ spend based and the CEO/Head of Australia etc is asked who they'd like to have.

Article is paywalled
Edited parts:
The Australian understands religious leaders across faiths have received letters removing them from the exclusive list over the past several years.
...
Qantas does not comment on who is on the list and senior church leaders have either declined to respond or simply declared they are not on the list.
...
Sources said the Qantas letter referenced the fact the purge related to religious leaders across faiths and was not related purely to the Catholic Church.

The purge began several years ago but has not been reported.
...
Qantas’s purge is believed to have started before the same-sex marriage debate and was part of a long-running strategy. It is believed the airline has been working on reducing the Chairman’s Lounge list for up to four years.
...
The decision to purge religious leaders has raised the eyebrows of some, with the major churches spending millions each year on travel.
...
Controversy about the membership intensified this month after journalist Phillip Adams, who coined the phrase “Spirit of Australia” for Qantas, had his lounge membership withdrawn.

Interesting how they don't comment on the list - didn't some time ago they mention that an ex-AFL CEO was removed after they did some deal with Virgin?

Phillips lost me at "considering my social media presence" or similar (cant open page now)

Didnt think the CL was for insta'influencers.

close.. the quote was Media presence.. so not really "instainfluencers"

Due to potential conflict of interest, politicians of all persuasions should be not allowed to be Chairmans Club members. :p :rolleyes:

Dajop that would open the floodgates to riffraff like us.
