Do I have to actually get on the plane to get my SC's?

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question, I have to earn 40 SCs by the 30th to keep my Silver FF status. I haven't been flying recently and I am running short of time to actually fly anywhere. Is it possible to pay for the flight not travel on it but still be awarded the status credits?

I am hoping the answer is a resounding yes?

Fluro

but in the era of OLCI...;)

I've had SCs post for flights I've never taken (usually due to re-routing by the airline, so it hasn't cost me anything)...but no, it's certainly not common. :)

Ditto. Have had SC's post for a flight that in one point in time I had been booked on, but i never set foot on the plane. In fact never went anywere near checking it, I had changed the booking weeks before.

But, out of all my changes that has happened once.

thanks for all the replys, would it be possible to transfer some sc's across from my financee?

Hmm... I can't say that I have ever heard of this one. Transferring points, yes. Status credits are a completely different matter, and as far as I know you have to fly to get them.

That has happened to me as well, but usually down to a problem in the backend. We should thank whoever now has the contract for the backend system. :)

And yes, there are people here that know more.

To be very clear:

a) You have to fly to get SC - just booking tickets is not enough
b) If your flight gets cancelled or re-routed you will not get SC credits for the booked flight, you will get it for the flight you get re-routed on.
Yes there have been times when system quirks have given people 'bonus' SC but this is not the norm.
c) If you get upgraded by QF (cause they decide to be nice) you earn SC in the class you paid for, not the class you flew in
d) Booking tickets in your name and having someone else fly them is against Qantas rules and you could get suspended from the program.

So with tomorrow being the 30th, did you make the flights fluroescent_ninja ? .... or are you back to Bronze :oops:

Well I am sad to say I am back to bronze, I could not justify the funds and I would have had to take my finacee shopping for the day so yeah back to bronze but I am sure with all the flights I have coming up this year ill be back to silver in no time.

Thanks everyone for all your input.

Do they send you a new bronze card? Does anyone know? What if you never had a bronze card before as you live overseas and got free membership (as per T/C) but no card sent.

No card in the post as yet, but I am dreading it. Its more that all my tickets will say bronze member...........and the fact that one year I was almost gold won't mean a thing. I can say goodbye to any chance of upgrades.

:(

I was on a flight recently where we boarded, sat on the plane in the taxiway and then the flight was cancelled.

I didn't receive points or SC's for that flight or the replacement one either. I submitted an online claim and it was rejected. I had to call the service centre to get them manually added.
