I got this exiting SYD. The auto passport kiosk did not let me through, so I had to go through secondary. Attached by immigration agent at secondary

Sorry that's a Qantas (or similar) USA security sticker, and that was attached on the 7th of December.

It was attached in Sydney by the immigration people at secondary inspection

Did you get one from an inspection on the check in queue? If not, this seems to be the back-up and it looks like your secondary was somehow triggered by your not talking to the check in queue mob and being 'ticked off'.

At BNE Intl MSS Security affix those stickers to the passports when pax checkin for USA flights and have completed the Spanish inquisition. If pax have come inbound from a domestic flight and therefore bypassed the security screening process they'll be paged at the gate and the procedure done there.

If flying into SYD on a domestic flight before continuing on to the US you'll be intercepted at gate 15 to complete the procedure before jumping on the QF airside shuttle bus.

I just don’t want to get an Israeli sticker next year

I have bad news for you then....you get one. Good news is its just a bar code stuck on the outside back cover which is easy to remove once you leave.

IIRC,
At the secondary they just looked at me and.m compared with photo in passport, swiped the machine code on the cover, looked at boarding pass, inserted the sticker. No Spanish Inquisition

Didn't know immigration got involved in stickergate - thought it was only the security company contracted by the airline who did that.

As for the Spanish inquisition - they ain't got time for dat!

Yes, but if the first mob for some reason don't check the pax off in'the system', I'm guessing that immigration is the next line. So no gate thoroughfare and they bung
the sticker in.

I want to know how they know to flick you to secondary. When the stickers were first introduced CSA's had to add an SSR to the pnr as to whether you got the full sticker (as pictured above in the OP), half sticker which is minus the bit underneath the date below the perforation. Kids under 12 were exempt.

The pax who weren't commented were then intercepted at the boarding gate. So with the absence of the comments in the checkin system, how do they know?

I got the full sticker although I was the 'lucky' recipient of the dreaded SSSS on my boarding pass. Was paged up at the boarding gate SO told OH I'd be back in a sec and duly fronted up for the formalities. Once that was over I went to head back to the passenger seating area at the boarding gate but was told I couldn't do that and had to go straight onboard the aircraft.

Had to ask permission to use my phone to call OH and tell him I'd see him onboard.

No SSSS on my boarding pass
I thought the passport auto kiosk was not working - greenlight for passport scan and passport went in to slot but I could not get past the camera bit - it kept indicating to me to look at the camera until I was directed to secondary.

I have the Hong Kong version stuck onto my PP before my HKG-JFK flight this week.

Standard questions, similar to those for the other stickers (like the OP's) for the three MEL-LAX trips I have taken this year.

I'm just guessing, but maybe if the check in agent doesn't see a sticker, a code is either entered, or something is not entered, that causes at the immigration gate, the pax to be flagged and the process is done there.

Or it may have all just been a coincidence :)

This isn't an immigration sticker. This is a sticker from security. They ask you questions, they put a sticker on your passport. This occurs for 100% of all USA bound customers now.

Border Force (immigration) do not care nor do USA "security" work.

Yes, we appreciate that.

No doubt, yet Quick Status at post #11 reported that they did put the US security sticker in. I've just been amusing myself speculating why that would have been the case.
