I noticed on MEL-SYD QF452 last night that the flight attendant had a list of the WPs (including me) in Y, alongside their seat numbers, stuck on the drinks cart. Are there some sort of allowances that are made that I'm not aware of? (Free drinks on a Sunday?) It struck me as odd as all of the service I've received on the aircraft in Y is indistinguishable from when I was a NB. As this is my first year as a WP, I'm wondering if there are some thing I just don't know about onboard to take advantage of.

Cheers,

buckleyj

That's common, usually to provide a personalised greeting for Platinums and P1s where the entire Y printed manifest can't fit on top of the trolley as it does in J.

You might get a “welcome back Mr/Ms buckleyj” if you’re lucky but more often than not, you’ll get nothing more than the seat you paid for. Nowadays CLs/WP1s get a bit more fawning but it’s not as if they’ll be automatically given free unlimited champagne from J.

Apart from a personalised welcome I’ve had the offer of a newspaper and to hang my coat. If meals are in short supply they might prioritise your choice.

I believe the service standard in J should be that CL/P1 are offered the full range of choice. Platinum in 3F? You get the soup or cheese.
I usually try get him row 2 but all booked. Pretty pathetic catering for a 6pm flight though.

I suspect three things:

1.- Somewhere in the QF system there is a concept of printing lists of status pax (WP, P1, CL) and making these lists available to staff onboard.

2.- I think that likewise, somewhere in the QF system there is an intention that certain extra attention / recognition / etc be given by the staff to these status pax.

3.- I think that the majority of onboard staff either (a) do not understand this all, or (b) don't give a stuff about it, and there are no procedures in place within Qantas to verify or monitor if such service is given.

I’ve done a lot of domestic flights since I’ve now moved to Canberra for uni and pretty much every flight they have a little handwritten list of name, seat, and status (CL, P1, PL) but only on a handful of those flights have the crew bothered to say hello (normally just “what do you want to drink?”) and only one did one have a conversation about how I looked so young whilst being P1

Delete CL and I agree. But only on the basis that there are limited options. For the cost of a J meal ($5 at best) vs a J ticket ($$ or points) there really should be full catering. Not that this is on topic (as usual).

Thank goodness for customers I'm not, but if I were in the service industry I'd be pretty cautious about making any statement like this. No doubt it was just light banter and you took it as such, but risky to make comments about appearances...

More so she asked what I did and when I said I was a uni student she was like “how did you do so much flying to be a platinum one!”, all very respectful

So not about how young you looked then? Better.

I don't recall there being an issue in QF Y of food running out.
No but in my experience on all flights where there are 2 or more options in Y they say 'we apologise if your choice may not be available'. The poster referred to choice of meal, not just a meal.

That said, I've not been at the back of the bus as a WP+ so can't say for sure I'd be asked first!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Not a WP/P1, but when I was QF SG, they can see from when we present the BP or flimsy bit of paper or QR device on boarding, they would say, (good morning/afternoon/evening, welcome back onboard Mr pooch), as I am sure that your BP or that small flimsy bit of paper printed by the gate or the device will denote what status you are.
On VA as VA PS, have never had that, just (thank you Mr pooch), ...

I'd say if a bulk cooked option such as soup is a menu option then the average price for catering the J cabin as a whole would be nearer half that amount.
