Double Status Credits (book by 5/2/18, fly 12/2/18 to 20/1/19)

Recently flew MEL-HKG rtn in J,; now have the DSC;s logged, outbound after 5 days, inbound after 3. My score card for this year is:

"Real" SCs: 780
DSCs: 540
Loyalty bonus SCs: 100

So, Platinum for the 16th consecutive year coming up...sweet!

You must have collected one of those loyalty bonuses prior to 13th March - since then DSC do not apply to those.

Going by the base SC and DSC counts, and given @whughes3 has just completed MEL-HKG with DSC, they must have carried one over from last year.

EDIT: I take that back! They could have snuck one in on base + DSC before 13 March, then earned a 2nd one with base SC only after 13 March.

In fact, both lots of LB SC's are from this year; I had my first DSC run from the Feb offer, and the second from the Aug offer. I must say this surprised me a bit too, but I'm not complaining!
 
Bonus SC for the third segment on DSC itineraries do not appear to be posting automatically. Both myself and +1 had the same issue on a recent trip - base SC post quickly, and DSC for segments 1, 2 and 4 all post within a few days, but no sign of the elusive segment #3.

Approx 7 weeks after flying I had 3rd segment manually credited for myself and +1 today. Delayed booking but no HUACA required - done on the spot with no fuss. Having DSC posted for all the other segments seemed to help, so it's worth pointing out if anyone is in the same situation.
 
These are now coming through quite quickly. Both flights from the weekend have had double SCs applied.

Kicking myself for missing latest promotion.

Did you call up to get the 3rd segment manually credit . i also got a delayed booking with 1st segment DSC credit after 3 days , 2nd segment base SC credited after landed but DSC still not there after 7 days , how long should i wait before i call up

Contacted Qantas today re missing DSC's for a flight 3rd September. I did three legs, received DSC's for two. My year has reset since, so it's not a big issue to me, but the principle is the thing.
It was an interesting call, because the first response was "you have to wait six to eight weeks and they will be credited". I replied that I had waited eight weeks and they had not been credited. She carefully counted up, I heard her doing it! The next response was "did you register for the DSC offer?" I replied that I had and pointed out that that two out of the three legs had posted DSC's, but one had not.
Time out.
Returned to me saying "You have registered for the August DSC's, and the October DSC's but I see nothing for February" I responded, pointing out that I had many (>1000) DSC's from the February offer and that the trip in question had paid out on two out of three flights; please could she sort the third.

Came back to me, saying she would have to look into it further and could I please hold.

That is absolutely pathetic, and shows no common sense employed. I mean if 3 flights, on the same PNR, and 2 credit and 1 doesn't all the "have you regiistered" BS is irrelevant. If 2 flights qualified, and the 3rd meets the same criteria (such as QF metal etc) it's a no brainer.

And the whole waiting 8 weeks thing.. definitely standard delaying tactics that just aggrevate.

it's funny how many agents I talk to tend to if not quite bend over backwards noting P1 status, definitely show a much more liberal attitude to dealing with me (that I suspect a NB orPS wouldn't get which is not fair, but it is what it is). Yet some just want to act like this.

Don't believe everything you read.

I've been booking BNE-SYD flights for over 10 years now. With every previous sale there were at least 6 flights per day that did not have the special red e-deal available. Mainly between 4:00pm-7:00pm adjusted for daylight saving. Some flights were really expensive.

The current sale finished last night. I booked 4 Friday night flights BNE-SYD in February and March for $114.99 one way. There were only 2 flights (the 3:05pm and 3:35pm) that did not have the red e-deal available.

I have never seen that many BNE-SYD flights on a Friday night available with the special and I've been booking 6-9 months in advance for a long time but stopped doing that late last year as Qantas became more coughy and not discounting all flights.

I know I'm only a very small sample size but I think forward bookings are poor which is why we're seeing these specials and double SC offers.
 
it could well be that historically demand at that time of year is softer for those sorts of flights, though I do agree it seems odd.
Of course, QF can put up say 4 seats for sale at that fare and still make money from the flight depending on the overall mix of fares, connections, likely flex fares sold and the like.

I am interested in the comment about "flat capacity" in the article, but without digging up the results I wonder about domestic capacity, because certainly over the weaker demand periods Oct/Nov/early Dec and Feb/Mar it seems QF has cut capacity with cancellations and schedule changes, downgrading some flights (eg: 737->717) and so on.

QF have definitely increased fares across the board quite a few times this year, certainly in the more flex fare space.

You'd have to think DSC has stimulated demand a fair bit because you'd honestly think they wouldn't have launched a 2nd one 2 months later unless they saw a significant return. tbh I would have thought the lure of say Double or Triple points would net more (as in the once or twice a year punter who wouldn't get close to Silver a DSC offer is prob not as much of a lure as bonus points may be) but.. not complaining :)

No sign of them. Also have similar situation coming up with some from the 17th October, even though the other part of the trip (same PNR), on the 15th has posted and a subsequent trip on the 26th has also posted.
It's a great game, as long as you can keep your sense of humour!

I'd love to know how many new PS/SG/WPs are minted as a result of each DSC promo.

One would imagine there's a significant number of punters out there who get excited at the possibility of reaching Silver by flying QF to Europe instead of QR/CX/SQ - and so they justify the extra $500-1000 premium to book QF metal the whole way. (because of course all the QF sales magically disappear during the DSC booking window)

What will that new PS member cost QF over the next year? Virtually nothing. If anything, that member will get a taste of a QF lounge (hopefully positive) and strive for SG next year, bringing QF even more revenue.

Obviously the new SG/WP members as a result of DSC would cost QF something, but if they're not flying enough to reach SG/WP without promos then it would be less (and put less pressure on your lounge network) than a "real" elite.

The model is similar to credit card signup bonuses. You can play the system in your favour, but it is always subsidised by the average punter (who ends up paying a $400 annual fee for a few years, and 20% interest on their CC balance to boot)
 
The more average punters the better IMHO (at least below SG in FF world). Why should they be rewarded for ignorance when we spend the time to upskill.
