PJs and using on flights

Always take my QF F pjs with me if none are provided or I’m flying overnight in Y.

I like to change into something more comfy for long haul flights. And it keeps my dress clothes less wrinkly.

I personally never do but understaNd why others like to. What I don’t understand though is people changing before take-off. What if there’s an emergency or other need to deplane?

I noted on my SQ flight last night the security briefing instructed people to keep their shoes on until after take-off. Common sense to me, but I guess like QF having to tell pax they don’t allow anyone to sleep on the floor, not everyone thinks alike.

That’s over 14 hours innit?
So don’t they run through one or two artificial day/night cycles with the onboard lighting ... ?

It leaves SYD about 10am or something and gets into JNB about 4:30pm. I recall they turn the lights off at some point, but some people, including myself, kept the window shades up and enjoyed the sun.

A lesson learnt from Sq006 :(

Just adding my two cents worth, just to keep more opinions available:

1.- I only ever change into PJ's on an F flight. And only to sleep in.

2.- In J I sometimes change into the PJ top half, but do so in my own seat (not in the bathroom). And yes, it is easier for a boy to do this than a girl.

3.- In Y or PE I would never even consider taking my own pj's and changing into them. That to me would be a bit like taking fine silver cutlery to eat at McDonalds......

4.- I usually leave my boots on on long haul flights - this is a very personal thing - I am too tall and so feet invariably cramped up/in small confined spaces - this is for me much more comfortable in the protective cocoon/shell of the boots. Counter-intuative maybe, but for me at least - it works!

5.- I have the luxury of never needing to arrive somewhere wearing a suit. And I learnt eons ago no-one else (including staff) gives a t_ss what other pax wear. So I wear comfortable jeans and t-shirt. Happy to sleep in these. And easy to carry replacement t-shirt, etc in carry-on to change into in any lounge :)

Will often change into shorts/ t shirt, but never PJs (and usually shorts before the flight ... ) Don’t like sleeping in long pants, shorts allow better temperature control. Never really understood the fuss people make about PJs on flights, but we’re all different ....

Yes we are all different. And I believe for some the PJ's have nothing to do with comfort, but more to do with appearance. In a DYKWIA sort of sense. But I am firmly of the feeling to not judge, and to let everyone be themselves. But I still feel some opinions :) (which should be OK, but expressing them jars people, and brings forever new enemies....)

I really think many travelers care about what other pax may think of them. I can only give my own observations, but almost every time I see pax strutting around in PJ's it generates in me a reaction probably the opposite of what they think it will generate - as a very frequent flyer, it reveals to me that they are actually not big fish in the FF pond. It reveals to me that they care about the opinions of others.

The excuse for wearing airline PJ's is that "they are more comfortable" and "better suited for rest", etc etc. Better than what? I agree they are better than a suit.

I have had the luxury of travelling in a great variety of airlines, many in First. So as an aviation nerd, I have a collection of PJ's. Some I don't keep, but my current wardrobe has a selection of about half a dozen or more of First PJ's. And I must tell you, that even the best of these (maybe EK, maybe AA?) are still no where near as comfy to sleep in as a standard tracksuit you can buy from Kmart or Target for about $20.

I mean, seriously, airline PJ's are cough. Nice for the novelty factor, but all are invariably thin, and all airlines do these in a "one of three sizes will fit you".

I hoard all my QF J PJ's - I even ask for them in each of the sizes. Why do I hoard these? Certainly not for strutting in. They are so lightweight they make perfect disposable outfits to make the children wear when I get them to help me paint houses.....

They may be cheap and nasty but I do love my Virgin PJ’s because they are thin and I hate sleeping with any clothing on so it’s the next best thing

Virgin PJs are the worse, a few wash/dry and they are shrink small enough for hobbits. QF and EK have been the best so far. My husband will wear them at home during winter as he prefers airline pjs over store bought as he doesn't find them constrictive.

Ive not noticed any strutting around the cabin but after takeoff I change into pjs, have a meal and then try to sleep the rest of the way. Last long haul and next is 36hrs so try to stay a little bit fresh.

I would wear them at boarding if I could get away with it but alas, I would end up on Passenger Shame.

I always take a pair of PJ's with me - generally a decade old pair of Charcoal Grey SQ First class.

Wear them them no matter what class I am travelling. (Generally I am HLO and doing this 'saves' my day clothes for the trip.)

Better than jeans, or any pair of pants with a structured or snug fitting waist-line. Some cabins can be become quite warm during flight and it's not pleasant to wake up hot and sweaty in clothes you'll need to be in for anywhere up to 24-36 hours. And shirts crease.

It doesn't have to be airline PJs, but airline provided clothing saves carrying additional items people don't need to.

Shorts I could do it, long pants I can’t balance on the provided slippers well enough to remove said pants without them touching something in the cubicle.
Try removing the first part (belt, zip) then sit down to take them off your legs. I always wear long pants and never shorts or skirts on a long flight.
Gawd, bizarre. Giving undressing info on a website :D

In J QSuites or the various enclosed F suites, it's easy to get changed within one's suite...;):).

But need to be wary of people peeking over the top.

Have Qantas F, Emirates F and Qatar J. Qatar J are the best fit for me in S. I wear them at home. The others, maybe Emirates.
