Hi All,

I need some advice. I misread the T&Cs for the double status credit promotion (My error, I know) and booked international flights with a domestic connection. This was booked on Qantas.com and involved a domestic QF Segment and a QF codeshare operated by Aircalin as QANTAS does not fly to New Caledonia.

The T&Cs stated "An eligible flight for the purpose of this promotion means any Domestic or International Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number on your ticket where Status Credits are normally earned." The key words were Qantas operated flight.

Thus I was not awarded my double status credits for the Aircalin operated flight.

This has left me with a shortfall to my status retention which I think will be 20 SC after I finish return domestic flight tomorrow after I'm awarded double SC for that flight and elect for a 50 SC bonus at 1000 SCs.

My question is am I required to do a cheap SC run to get those 20 SC; or does QANTAS offer some leeway for status retention; or offer the purchase of SC to retain Platinum?

Cheers

Qantas doesn't sell SC as far as I know and don't expect any generosity or leeway from them.
Take the 20SC flight so you qualify to retain your status.

Can't comment too much on whether Qantas will give you leeway or not, but can't call to ask. MrsDaver6 was 10SC short of retaining gold one year and called and asked nicely and was granted.

As for Qantas not flying to New Caledonia, that is incorrect. I flew QF meteal from SYD to NOU and return just last month.

I will give a call in a week and hope they can do something.

Oh ok thanks, I searched for QF flights, but none showed up, unfortunately, maybe it could not be done with the connection in Sydney :(.

They only fly a couple of days a week.

Correct. Early morning departure of roughly 7:50am. Makes connecting to it tricky/impossible almost.

I am 50 status credits short of reaching gold at the end of July. I had thought I was due to get a loyalty bonus of 50 SC's when I hit 500 SC's. and hand been waiting for the offer from Qantas.
After receiving an email from Qantas advising me I was short of reaching gold they asked me to ring them to discuss my options for retaining Gold, I rang them and was advised I didn't get the loyalty bonus offer because 80 SC's of my 550 SC's were the result of a double status credit offer and they double SC's don't count towards the amount of SC's required to be offered the loyalty bonus. After asking if there was anything they could do to enable me to retain Gold I was offered 50 SC's at the cost of 80 000 QFF points.
I am extremely disappointed at the way Qantas is dealing with their loyal customers, I have been a QFF for the last 22 years but loyalty doesn't seem to come into it anymore.
I wish you good luck, they may just comp you the 20 SC's your require.

Unfortunatley the last few DSC offers have excluded them from counting towards the loyalty bonus. I also missed out on one due to that.

At 20SC short, I would take a cheap domestic return. Thats far better value than wasting 80k points.

They dealt with you according to the T&Cs of the promotion, and have given you an alternative option.
At 50SCs versus 80,000 points (which seems to be flat whether 10, 50 or 500 SC short) I'd just fly to retain.

yes bonus SC offers no longer apply to loyalty bomnuses or P1 bonuses. The 80k points to retain Gold thing is also fairly standard from anecotal evidence.

It is a new sign of the times that QF is not really showing much in the way of leeway these days. I am sure there are exceptions, but that's the new situation normal for QF.

ie: I'm not at all surprised.

I was a long way short of maintaining Gold Status this year as I had cut back on travel for the past twelve months, Qantas made an offer for me to pay 80,000 points to retain. Seemed a good offer and accepted gladly.

I don't agree with the decision either but the past couple of years has seen Qantas do away with status comps and offer of using 80,000 QFF points if short of Gold or 120,000 QFF points if short of Platinum.

I had cut back on travel for the past twelve months

this is quite funny, if you cut back on travel, the gold benefits which Qantas need to pay to you for free reduces as well...

what's good for P1 if you don't ever travel ? ^_^

Did I read somewhere they only offer if you have done the 4 legs ?
You need to have already done the minimum 4 flights required before you can attain a status level so don't think they'd offer status retention via points if that has not been achieved.

A person I work with says she has been offered the gold retention for points - has under 500SC's and only two ~ flights having used other oneworld carriers for her Asian flights.

So Qantas ignoring their own terms and conditions. Why am I not surprised with the greed?

I don't see re-qualifying SG/WP using using a direct points payment in any of the published Qantas T&C's.

So they are not ignoring any of these T&C's.

Do the cheapest out and back to get the SCs you need. Although they will likely comp you that will leave a note on the system and should you really need it next time unlikely you'll get it. While you have the opportunity to do it yourself, take it.
