Just wondering if anyone has put in a claim on insurance when their flight has been delayed?
We were in QF12 that was delayed 24 hours due to numerous issues
JFK departure was many hours delayed, arrived in LAX about 3.30am...finally got a room at 9.30 am and flew out eventually that evening
Only additional cost for us was the dog had an extra night at boarding
About to lodge feedback with Qantas as per their request via email
However just wondering choices, if any ,
Both of us have comprehensive insurance albeit with two different companies due to pre existing conditions.

Unless you can demonstrate you are out of pocket you're unlikely to get anywhere on the insurance front. ie your claim is for how much and what? What was the root cause of the delay?

I'd ask QF for some points or something they can give you where they don't spend money.

I was two days late once coming from LAX to Sydney (a single scheduled flight that ended up being on three different aircraft), but I wasn't out of pocket so not worth the grief.

I use a APP called "very shun" to book airline ticket. I bought their platinum membership for 100 dollar. Then I get 6 lounge pass and 6 fast security pass and all year long delay insurance. If I get an two hour delay. I will get 200 dollar through the app quickly.
My girlfriend have a credit card. One of the benefit is delay insurance but only up to 100 dollor each.
I knew some of the credit card on the diamond level will get up to 1,000 dollar. But I am not qualified to get the card yet.
Those are the things might help in the future and maybe you can find some kind of the credit card that had this kind of benefit.

One day dog boarding would be what $30 or $35 maybe?* If you are not out of pocket it's probably not worth the hassle.

*You can see I don't have a dog

While some policies will cover some missed events or "trips in vain", neither of these seem applicable to your circumstances.

The best I could suggest you do is contact the carrier and request they provide some sort of compensation as a way of "saying sorry". maybe request a specific means such ad 50k QFF points.

Lol our dog can add quite a bit to our holidays .
He is on medication 4 times daily for seizures.

Whats the policy excess. I'm sure its not worth the hassle
Actually I don't have an excess which surprised me when I looked . Though perhaps it is differentfor different parts of the policy

@serfty I think husband is hoping that happens when he sends his email.
Our main gripe is not the delay but the lack of information. We received our information via other passengers not Qantas
