Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Recently booked a quick 280k SYD-HKG-YVR-JFK-HND-SYD all in J for next year with the taxes coming in at $550. CX, JL and QF
Took about 15 minutes on the phone even with a HND-SYD request as no U was available.

Do anyone know a way to force a ticket through the queue? I just called to add my last flight segment to my RTW J ticket but it has been declined because the e-ticket hasn't been issued since last change I made on Tuesday. She said she can't help me until the ticket has been re-issued, but the problem is the reward availability can easily book out while I wait for Qantas to re-issue my ticket and I have been waiting since Tuesday, anyone got ideas beside contacting Qantas on social media?
That doesn’t sound right to me as I have previously done just that. Did you get the Oz CC or SA? SA are hopeless and don’t know the conditions. I’d call back and try again. To get the premium cc in Oz try using the call back service.

Thank you, will give it another try later. Unfortunately I wasn't offered the opportunity to use the call back service, let's hope I get better luck this time.

Can someone please assist me with tax calculations on a RTW J ticket. I'm pretty sure I've been overcharged. The only leg I can't find the taxes for are on Iberia (muc-mad-nrt). When I ring Qantas they advise they can't figure out that individual Iberia segment either.
I have to following
per-hkg-lhr-ham $450
nrt-hnl-nrt $112
nrt-kul-per $43
total here is $603
but when they add in the Iberia (muc-mad-nrt) the total jumps up to $1378. So $775 for that leg !
Is there a way to find out the tax for the Iberia segment separately ?

Thanks in advance

Just to report back, I finally managed to get my last segments added. The agent got his supervisor to immediately ticket my flights from last week's change, so he can add the last segments onto the booking.

I appreciated the agent's help but it was a painful process, took 65 minutes on the phone excluding wait time as he first struggled with finding flight availability for JL, then need his supervisor to issue the ticket before he can make the amendment.

Certainly is a way, it is called ITA Matrix. See below for that routes surcharges on Iberia in EUR, so around AUD460.

All in all it probably is right for the total surcharges charged.

Wow, that's handy. So about $460 for the 2 Iberia segments, still a lot less than $775. Not sure how I can handle this as Qantas said the total is $1378 and that's that.
I know it should be approx. $1000, but I think I'm still being overcharged about $300.

I think you're probably being charged correctly though.

Remember the Wiki above is only for Fuel Surcharges, it does not include any of the Airport & Country taxes imposed.

This is not correct for a number of carriers, BA, QF and IB to name a few. These carriers charge different amounts of fuel fines for awards compared to commercial fares, which is precisely why the fuel fines listing exists in the wiki. The data in the wiki cannot be found just by looking at ITA matrix.

If you had the booking originally created over the phone (not online), PM me the record locator and I will see if I can extract the fuel fine amounts from your ticket.

I have a question..
CX seem to have a policy of releasing a mass of business seats about ~ 2 weeks before departure.
I have a RTW 280k fare, with one leg booked in economy - as no business when booked.
This leg is about 25 days after the start of the trip.
If Cathay release any award J seating - is there any way of picking it up - or am I skunked as I have started the journey ?
Thanks
Dave

That sounds strange. I have done two 280k rewards and added segments or made changes numerous times. Every time I made a change before the last one was ticketed it was not a problem and I was told that there was no change fee, because the change fee is only payable on re-ticketing. Did you get charged the change fee for both changes?

Don't know what happened, the first agent simply refused to do it, when I called again the second agent tried to add the segment but the computer is blocking him (apparently), so he escalated it to his supervisor and there's a problem with the ticket, it took about 30 minutes for the supervisor to fix the problem but they never told me what the problem is.

No, I have only been charged 1 change fee, so at least I saved 10k QF points.

Can anyone see anything wrong with this itinerary? The call centre insist is isn't valid but can't tell me why. I'm about 5 hours into a phone call with them and it's really frustrating.

Nothing wrong with the routing. It's perfectly valid. You have 5 stops, you have 16 segments, you only have 1 transit and 1 stop at LHR (2 transits + 1 stop allowed). You are well under the 35000 miles allowance too.

I finally got it sorted, roughly 12 hours after I first called. For some reason though, no one at the call centre could see any available seats on QF36 SIN-MEL despite them showing on the website. Ended up having to go on QF38 and will have to try and change at a later date. They also waived the change fee for the huge stuff around.

Dear gurus, I am planning a trip of a decade for my wife and I.

Was wanting to do J and visit the following places.

CNS-BNE-SIN-xLIS-xZRH-RTM-xOSL-xARN-HEL-xNRT-SFO-BNE-CNS

The award pricing doesn't work because I keep getting flights that fly back and forths to LHR when doing the European cities.

May I enlist the help of geniuses to make this come through?

Planning now for travel in Jun 2019 hopefully

There are no oneworld flights between SIN and LIS. At a guess I'd say there's also none between LIS and ZRH, nor RTM and ARN. That would be the reason you're being sent back through LHR. You will need to route via a oneworld hub either side of LIS and, I suspect, ZRH, RTM and OSL

Try looking here: oneworld Online Timetable. That will give you the oneworld flights (direct and connection) out of each airport.

Without checking availability or mileage consider: CNS-xBNE-xSIN-xHEL/xLHR-LIS-xHEL/xLHR/xMAD-ZRH-xLHR-RTM-xLHR-OSL-xLHR/ xMAD/xHEL-ARN-xHEL-NRT-SFO-xSYD-CNS.

Note:
  1. "x" is one common way to indicate a transit but I'm guessing you're actually intending each of those to be a stopover.
  2. HEL-NRT can also be achieved by HEL-xSIN-NRT OR HEL-xHKG-NRT or HEL-xBKK-NRT.
  3. NRT-SFO can also be achieved by NRT-xHKG-SFO OR NRT-xBKK-xHKG-SFO.
  4. I suspect you may have an issue with mileage. For example: Great Circle Mapper. You may need to consider some side trips that are separate to this oneworld award.

Remember you can only transit through an airport twice, so you wouldn't be able to go through LHR & HEL enough times to make that work.
