Just saw this today and found it quite moving. The FAs repeating "brace, brace, stay down, stay down", felt particularly relevant as a pax.

I don't think the title of the thread is correct. From what I gather, the movie is actually about the aftermath, in particular the effects upon the crew, and the attempts by the air-chair experts to discredit the Captain.

If it was just about a ditching, I doubt that it would be worth seeing....as it sounds to be much more than that, I hope to see it as soon as it appears in Oz.

I guess this movie won't make it to any of the airline's IFE anytime soon ..... ;)

I'd don't know...perhaps it might get a few people to actually listen, and think, about the safety brief. Stuff does happen.

Given you fly around the world, wouldn't you be able to watch it before it goes live in the land of Oz?

Probably, but the only flights I've got in the next couple of weeks are to the USA, and I can't stand going to the theatre there. The only movie I've ever enjoyed in an American theatre was Enemy at the Gates....because they were cheering for either side.

Just read a quick comment from a pilot who has seen it. Very thumbs up.

It is a very positive story, but yes, a bit scary. It does begin with the aftermath, but then goes back over what and how it happens. It's a good way to handle the story of what we saw for days on the TV whilst building drama in the movie.

I enjoy most movies that are from real life experiences so looking forward to this one .Have seen the air crash investigation episode on TV ,so it will be interesting to see what the movie portrays.

Don't rush out of the theatre at the end because right at the end of the movie there is a short piece of footage of the real Sully at what appears to be a catch up meeting of some of the people from the plane. By comparison, Tom Hanks seems to play him a bit flat.

^ Thats what I was thinking.

The ads with Tom Hanks makes him see very stiff but the interviews Ive seen of the guy, hes quite engaging.

I liked the documentary I saw a few years ago on this incident. I would watch that again but Im not rushing out to see the movie.

Lots of feedback from my pilot friends who have seen it. Basically the feeling is that it's the first movie about aviation that actually tried to get it right. And basically succeeded. The 'experts' on the ground also manage to make people pretty angry. I'll see for my self tomorrow.

Tom Hanks, geeze. If I was casting it I'd have gone for John Slattery. Even 'Wilson' would have been an improvement on Hanks ;)

Had to laugh when I saw this.

Okay, I saw it today. 10 out of 10.

Personally, I found it quite stressful. I'll bet Sully has trouble watching it.

Just saw it myself, great movie, yes would have been hard to be Sully and have to go through the thoughts, some of them would have been very personal.

Biggest feeling was when they had seen doing the flight again in the simulator during the NtSB investigation, Showed them landing the plane.

How many attempts, asked Sully

17 was the reply.

When you do see it, and you hear reference to 'sub idle'....that means the engine is below the normal idle rpm, is not responding to thrust lever inputs, and the only possible recovery is to shut down, and try to restart it. So, sub idle is basically a fat lot of good.
