Enjoyed the movie very much even allowing for the necessary dramatisation.
Otoh , swmbo was somewhat ambivalent. Nice to know that a ditched hull will float for a bit, although a 3m ocean swell might change all that.

The crew hadn't even pressed the ditch button that seals the vents in the event of a water landing as that step was way down the 3 page checklist and they only got half way through due to the limited time they had as they experienced the double engine failure at such a low altitude.

I don't think they even looked at the ditching checklist, only the one for all engine loss. In any event, it would do very little. From the images I've seen, the rear fuselage was torn open on water impact anyway.

So was Sully judged on just 208 seconds of the flight duration despite such a distinguished career until then?

That's the way it will always be. You're only as good as your last landing. Of course, in his case, it was brilliant.

Did they get to keep their FF POINTS for the original paid ticket?

That's typical AFF question ...... You would have to ask one of the passengers.

From my reading of insurance and passenger transport accident stories in the US, the lawyers would have contacted each passenger pretty quickly offering a settlement, and I'm sure the lawyers would have told the airline to credit everyone.

Saw it tonight - really good film. 8.5/10

The wife liked it as well. She also made a comment along the lines of 'US Airways... wasn't that the FF program that got us to Europe in F?' -

Perhaps she listened all those years ago.

Actually, Sully was judged on the 35 seconds of analysis/decision time they eventually gave him! Seemed like a lot longer than that to me though.

Great movie. Agree with others who said that The real Sully was a bit more charismatic than Tom Hanks played him.

Thanks Kpc. Was about to wait until it's released onboard but now I'll show your post to my +1 who was not interested hoping she will change her mind.

Well SWMBO and I finally managed to organise some time together to see this. We both quite enjoyed and she's def not an aviation nut. Now just to convince her to come with me to the Smithsonian museum of flight.

The Smithsonian museum is just fabulous. A must. Everyone would enjoy it.

Well that is just opposite to The National Gallery of Art. Tell SWMBO that The Smithsonian Museum of Flight is simply an extension of The National Gallery of Art :)

Just saw the movie, better than I had expected, sometimes this type of thing can get a bit corny but not this one. Well don't to Mr Eastwood and team. (not sure the investigators got a good deal but good for entertainment purposes)

Saw Sully today. The theatre forgot to turn off the lights and no one else was budging so I was the dummy who left to tell the reception to turn them off. So I missed the first few minutes. Anything in particular happen that wasn't later repeated?

Great movie - I loved it. As far as Tom Hanks goes - remember we only saw the real Sully a long time after the event when the shock had passed and he had been vindicated. Also the same for his wife. We do not know how he and his wife behaved immediately after the event and Hanks and Linney may have been spot on in their performance.

I read that the investigators weren't too happy with one speaking out in the media without even seeing the movie and just going by comments from others. They changed the names of the investigators in the movie so they would have been better off staying quiet.

I did read in the weeks following incident itself that one investigator was a bit over the top on the pilots. Payback may take a while but making a few govt employees look like they jumped the gun goes with the territory in the movie business.

In line with your post, the investigator/s made comment they were not invited to contribute to the movie, to bad so sad for them.
