Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Further to my rant over my CM order of Wolf Blass being cancelled without advice.

I contacted them again today and went straight to a supervisor / manager. Went through the whole story.

He agreed that the service was below par and said will call me back after reviewing, however it was cancelled as not enough stock to fill all the orders so could not guarantee anything.

He called me back to confirm he has sourced 6 x bottles of 2012 as per my original order from a local Dan Murphys and they will text me when ready to pick up. 10 minutes later txt received with order ready at DM to collect.

not bad service recovery. so I can confirm that I had 2 different orders using $100 discount on each and both now fulfilled.

CM couldn't fulfill my Wolf Blass Grey Label order either. As I have lots already & there are other deals going, elected to take the alternative offering of the Penley Estate Reserve Cab/Sauv 2010

I will dropping into the east doncaster store to buy two botts of the former zin. The hyperbole may be a tad overdone but the score, and the uniqueness surely put this in the must try department. My only stocks of zin were from the fo, west oz churchview st johns zin. Had two from the case. A beautifully elegant wine. This zin here will not be so elegant, but it wont matter.

My box of magic elixirs has just been delivered!

Includes:
2013 Warrabilla Limited Release Parola’s Durif
2013 Warrabilla Limited Release Parola’s Zinfandel
Quitapenas Dorado Malaga Moscatel
Bodega Jose De La Cuesta Pedro Ximenez Sherry (750ml)
2013 Arboleda Carmenere
2013 Caliterra Reserva Carmenere
2012 Bream Creek Pinot Noir

I feel a sickie coming on ... unless I can wait 6 1/2 hours *cough* ;)

Via Winemarket and using happybanker got me $30 off the $150 a case for this.
Originally I had been looking for the Byron and Harold Rose and Thorns Pinot 2014 which I had in early February. I gave it an 8.2 at that stage and the original bottle was part of a Wineselectors mixed case. it was $26 a bottle normally and was simply amazing for its fruit quality, balance and a wonderful lingering aftertaste.

Lo and behold, I saw this one on winemarket. I am taking a stab with the Wheelabout pinot which remarkably is out of stock directly from the winery in w.a. Interesting. And in house reviews of this one sound good as well. At ten bucks a bottle, if this different variant tastes close to the Rose and thorns, then I will be happy. Whilst I love the Yarra Valley Top Paddock 2015 (aka Hoddles creek Pinot) and all the great reviews it has received, I personally think the Rose ands Thorns is better. More body and more complexity. I couldn't find a retailer here who has it, hence a chance look at Winemarket. The rest is history.

I will add that they make a Riesling which I did not buy as I have quite a few at home and it's also going for around a tenner. I would think that would be a beaut as well as they take much pride in that varietal.

Cheerio.

must resist

anybody know how are the 2012/13 Greys? Worth the money? or like the Penfolds 9/28/128.. more a case of paying for the name/a bit over priced.
I've tried the 12 grey cab Shiraz and think it's worth 20 a bottle. Drinking well now and will cellar nicely.

I would say the wynns black label is pretty much irrefutable value at this price point if you've got room to store it for a while.

Sorry, I'm probably not helping the urge to resist! Currently trying not to go back for seconds..

Be interested to know your thoughts on this one, it seems to be everywhere for sale (even Catch of the Day - if you're looking its filed in its obvious spot, under 'white wine'...) at around that same $128 a case price.

If it's good I'll jump on a case, need some Pinot in my life.

United Cellars have a Neil Pike Riesling for $15.99, apparently their highest selling wine of any variety last year. Kicker is a Delatite Riesling as a 2nd purchase for $9.99.

Has anyone else experienced the service Cellarmasters are renowned for?
First of all, the orders I purchased with gift cards were stopped by the Cellarmasters account team. They assumed, it was an error because the balance on the invoice was zero. Did they contact me? No. After 2 weeks I called and had to get the orders manually released. The guy on the phone said it always happens and normally it is only resolved after a complaint. Thumbs up for service!!!
Now I notice they have declined four cash rewards purchases I made via credit card payments. All four tracked correctly but have been declined a couple of weeks later.
Goes to show why I will only shop with Cellarmasters when they have massive coupon deals.

Firstly, just to add my 2 cents that yep, Cellarmasters are woeful. The BS handling fee alone is reason not to use them (wine doesn't magically transport from winery to glass without 'handling'!). I can understand people wanting to use them because of this particular 'deal', but you're seeing exactly why they're reputation is shocking. Never, ever expect an order with Cellarmasters to be real until you have the wine (that you actually ordered!) in your hands. Unethical business practice at its finest, with proof many times over.

Onto better news. Cracka Wines is advertising Four Sisters Merlot 2014 for $10.99 bottle (RRP $20). 96 Halliday points. Don't drink merlot myself, but know people who do. Worth a punt?

Also keen to know people's opinion on the Taylors Clare Valley Shiraz 2014 that's been heralded over and over. Worth it for $12.30 (current deals) or over-hyped (as I've read)? Looks like 2014 vintage is on its way out, so now is the time if any.

Thanks!

I was actually quite surprised they didn't cancel heaps of the orders where the $100 code was used more than once or on 6-packs, contrary to the published conditions.

I've been buying from Cellarmasters (infrequently) ever since they went online, even used to buy a few of their own label wines early on until they ramped prices up well above the quality level.
Now it takes at least 20% or $50 off to make me even look to see what "real" labels they are offering.

Cellarmasters call and when I answer they hang up. Not endearing themselves with me.

It's the computerised call system, when you speak it gives the call to an available salesperson, sometimes there is a lag or glitch and it hangs up, or if you don't speak it will hang up.

I ended up ordering the Wolf Blass Grey pack from Dans. Specifically picked the 2012 Shiraz over the 2013*. Price is about $5 more (meaningless I know... It comes down to $25 either way). A little annoyed that I received the 2013 anyway!
