Vinomofo Wine Deals

Yes, they were BM deals that didn't need Anonymous Coward's impeccable detective skills as they were obvious. I think King Valley pinot Grigio were the key words. I notice the prosecco is currently on from gapstead, one I haven't tried.
Thanks for the grigio advice Beefarmer. I took a punt on the Mornington Quealy so will advise on it's worth when it arrives. On Gapstead I got the prosecco a few months ago. Nothing special but entirely pleasant lower alcohol bubble for backyard partying at $10. 'Clean' would describe it - no real complexity or depth - but that's what many proseccos are designed for.

Thanks Violin! Have you tried it before?
Sorry for delay in response Gustino. Haven't tried it - but it comes from the same stable as Howard Park and their second label Madfish of which the Howard Park is pretty good stuff generally. Coupled with a good Winefront write-up I figured that the $25 for a ready to drink now quality bottle would be worthwhile. $70 and many of the quoted RRPs are rubbish - but it seemed to have a general price of $45 so $25 was good buying. Will advise when it gets here in a couple of weeks.

It's a good lazy arvo quaffer.

I've been asked to do a review of VM so looks like there are a few bottles of wine coming my way...

Has anyone received their latest Maverick GSM 2012?

I just received mine, and very strange it is missing labels off the bottles...might be why they ended up with a small restock as they couldn't sell them without the labels.

EDIT: Cracking wine though :)

it really is isn't it....spice, body, flavour, lingering finish, so Moorish, it's certainly in the best of all time category at under a tenner.

Whoever it was that was looking to buy the Think outside the circle it's back up again now

That was me! Thanks for letting me know. I was going after this on the basis of the high accolades at a stack of comps recently. However, seemingly no one here (or vivino) share these favourable views . So, I've been turned off a bit.

I wonder why why the disparity between opinions. Any ideas? Has anyone here actually enjoyed this wine??!

I opened the 1 bottle last night that I got as part of a mixed 6. Extremely average - they must have slipped the judges some coin for those ratings.

I bought a case of it a while back.

I have 6 bottles left, and they are now sitting in the wine fridge to see what they are like in another 6-12 months. I drank a couple at home and gave a couple to some work colleagues to get some feedback, one liked it, one agreed with my review.

Look...It's OK...and I wouldn't give it anymore than that... above what you would expect for $8 a bottle from your local, but far from the best purchase I have had from the 'fo.

My judgement is still out to see how it mellows out in a years time, but yeah I was expecting a hell of a lot more with all that bling.

My opinion, for a similar price, grab the Glenlofty Shiraz Viognier that's been put back online, I've ended up with two cases of this, and it is far more drinkable now that the think outside the circle.

I rate this as a decent quaffer.
The amazing aspect to this wine involving mostly the expectation of greatness was the fact that it had so much bling attached to it at a great price. Golds upon golds upon a trophy. A cabernet, the king of the grape no less. But when you actually tasted it, leaving price aside, I guess amaroo's comments about it being a decent quaffer were about the best review you could find. Most of us found it so uninspiring that it was returned.

It's as simple as that. My expectations were too high, possibly yours, but I guess where those medals were obtained should have been a little more of a giveaway. But was this wine worse than the Mitolo Cantiniere fiasco ?

I think the Mitolo was a weally wretched wine which went way way down the sink.

Next time I am sticking to Thinking outside the damn square.

When I'm paying under $10 bucks - I have pretty low expectations.

I purchased of the back of a brokers cold call ... he didn't over sell it.

Medals in this price range - meh

Thanks. I've just pulled the trigger on some of the Glenlofty. I look forward to trying it.

Snap.

With all this discussion regarding "the circle" it just seemed to make sense to go with the Glenlofty and see what everyone is raving about. With a $25 referral credit - it takes this wine to a bit over $6 a pop. Really can't see how I can go wrong now!

ordered a case of the 2013 glenlofty as the 2011 was a beautiful wine.

any notes on the 2013 and how it compares to the older vintages?

oh the think outside the circle, i'd be less disappointed if i didn't expect a 96pt trophy winner, didn't return it but its definitely been placed in time out down in the cellar for a year or two.
