Vinomofo Wine Deals

I wonder if someone is going on with the GH GMH Shiraz. Keeps disappearing and popping up with "Almost Gone" - can only assume there's been a few returns.

I dunno, I split a case with some people at work and a few people loved it so much they went and ordered a whole case for themselves next time it popped up.

It must have been one of those weekend....I have had three friends try to buy wine with the referral method today only to be disallowed since they all triggered the fraud reflex on their computers. however, I think I will have no problems discussing this with them tomorrow morning. they certainly looked after me with the recent hiccup with the wrong gapstead wine being sent.

On Friday for lunch with pete, thankfully his Giesen Riesling was a great aperitif since we had to wait over an hour for our triple pasta to come out... After calmly asking our waitress that I would like her to ask the chef whether there was any reason why the three people behind us were being served coffees after their mains and we were still waiting, she had herself noticed this 5-10mins earlier and inquired of the kitchen.....ten seconds later our mains came.....the booze was all gone but the pasta was incredible so made up for the wait. Thems the breaks I guess.

last night had an innocent bystander pinot that was very nice indeed, but mine was the foz Gordon cabernet-tempranillon 2010 blend. Damn fine drink that one. I think I still won the weekend despite spending few hours on the phone.

So, full report on the Star Lane Merlot 2012 (whilst drinking my third glass on day four on this fine Sunday evening):

Stats - Star Lane Winery Merlot 2012, Beechwood (The Hills), Victoria, winemaker - Liz Barnes, 14.2% Alc/Vol

Description - the bottle says: estate grown and made, hand picked, basket pressed, minimal intervention from grape to bottle

Price - Cellar Door: $50; VM offer price, August 2015: $16.50 a bottle, minimum 6 pack

The experts - Keys gave the 2012 vintage 95 points, 5* Halliday Winery

Humble opinion - The fruit is big and bold (mostly cherries, and some plum) but not confronting, balancing nicely with those spicy notes you get with cool climate reds. It's well balanced and structured. After some aeration, the sweet cherry flavours and lovely spiciness soften down, for a lovely, complex, lingering (medium length) palate. It's not unlike an expensive Penfolds, dare I say it (even after four days of first being opened). I really like it, and would recommend it to my esteemed wine lovers. It's worth $50, and was ashamedly a bargain at $16.50 for a hand crafted, single estate grown and made, limited release wine. It's stands tall for Aussie Merlots and is well worth it's 95 point rating. I suggest re-trying in 2017, to see how it evolves.

I've not heard of the freezing method before ... I would have thought that it would affect the taste of the wine adversely. Do you put the wine into another container or do you leave it in the glass bottle?

Wine preservation after opening is always an interesting topic. I used to use the wine pumps, which would supposedly extract most of the air in the bottle while applying an airtight seal, however from experience, it's not much better than just placing the cork back on the bottle, and not feasible for longer than 1 or 2 days. WineSave looks interesting, and other methods can be quite expensive - i.e. Eurocave's WineArt preservation system ($595!!).

Generally I now either finish the bottle on the same night as opening, or if I've decanted the bottle, I place the lid on the decanter (both my decanters have lids/stops). Has anyone experimented with different ways to try and preserve wine side by side to see which one is more effective?

If under cork just drink it! Screwcaps usually ok for a few days if half a bottle or so left. Wouldn't last more than a day at our place though!~

Good to hear about the H & H shiraz - I am waiting on mine - can anyone tell me how the Glen Lofty compares with McLaren Vale shiraz's - Pertaringa a favourite - I have read some good reviews of Glen Lofty here but I am not into cool client shiraz ( ie adelaide hills etc)

Comparing the 2012's, sweeter and less body/meatiness.

How were they blocked?

I've been referring a few people at work who've had issues getting it delivered to work because it detects a similar address to where I've had stuff delivered, but a call to customer service quickly resolves the problem.

I have a question about brokers; a few of you have mentioned only dealing with their broker, how do you get one?

I have managed to purchase my way up to VIM status but have never received a call or email about dealing with any one person specifically.

Yup, that's the Glenlofty 2012. It's not quite up there with the 2011, but is still great. The 2012 shiraz Viognier is my favourite so far from Glenlofty.

Geez it has been a battle to get people to join and use their $50 free credit....I think I should of tried to invite more people that thinks $50 is a decent amount of money. Average income of the people I invited is probably around 250K....$50 is not that enticing I guess.

I couldnt convince anyone to sign up....their loss, and mine.

Hmm - interesting. Any issues using any other type of 375ml bottle? I'm thinking of the reasonably large number of desert wine bottles we discard each year - maybe it's worth keeping a few around.

The main attraction of the Wirra Wirra is they have an excellent screw cap seal. It's like they were made for it.

Others can also work.

If you would like the name of my broker, who I think is really good, send me a PM and I will give you his direct number. There is nothing in it for me so I'm not trying to sell you something.

I have now three out of my five...two to go, but four of us will share in 48 botts at under $ a bot.....blackcat, I share your frustration. I have spend about four hours teeing this all up, one is in metung, blah blah, but in the end, I am the man who will allow my colleagues to tastes fantastic stuff for peanuts. that's why I do this.

also, there are a lot of dodgy folk out there making up emails.....same address, then the security flag comes up from vinomofo. hence my mates couldn't get an order going because of this. a quick call to sarah and she has fixed a lot of this mess up.
can you blame them not being there ona sunday...no.

great customer service from sarah.........my god, they have to deal with al the cough and all the dodgy mof_'s...
nevertheless, I have one mate to purchase today, and then I can just chill for my case.......

thankyou to Vinomofo, thanks to bc20 since I will now be drinking out of spiegelau and or schott zwiessel.....and like my 18year old cat than passed on a while ago, those glasses making those clinky sounds makes burmans(my old cat was a singular one) sigh..............there is a difference, there is, there is.....................................I tort I saw a puudy cat !

theres a lot of wine to be drunk folks !!

Drank my first Riposte En Garde Pinot Gris 2014 last night ... Very nice wine! Lighter end of the Gris spectrum ... I would say half way between a Grigio and Gris in style. Shame it's now sold out.

Agree entirely. The 2011 was great, the 2012 good, and the 2012 SV was fantastic!

Hope I can get the SV again some time.

I know someone ordering the cab I'll swipe a few bottles.
