new AA buy miles promotion

Where is the sweet spot to maximise value all you clever maths people?

Define "sweet spot". If you are looking at maximum bonus, then it's buy 100k plus 60k bonus. That will give you the cheapest cost per mile, it will cost you A$4200, which is quite expensive. But it will get you first class on Qantas A380 to London return.

Sweet spot is the point in the scale of miles and bonus miles where you maximise your purchase value (see previous threads re buying miles)

I feel slightly inferior now that people are talking about EY F Apartments and I am slumming it in BA F instead in a months time.

I'm looking at ADL-SYD QF J, SYD-AUH EY F Apartments, AUH-ATH EY J for 90,000 points/miles and taxes. Great value for just under $3k Aussie one way.

The great feature of this promo is now probably for the first time ever MEL/SYD-LHR return in F can be purchased in the one go from the one account

Need to factor in the cost of the taxes when redeeming the miles.
I've got two seats LHR-SYD on QF F on hold and its $300 US per seat in taxes. Presumably cheaper in the opposite direction as no APD.

Not if you want EY F right? Because that's 200,000 miles return in F and this promo only gets you a maximum of 160,000

Correct. BA and QF only.
But still we've come a long way - it wasn't too long ago that 60k was the annual buy limit.

Sorry, I thought this was Australian FF where we quote the AUD (aka apples vs apples).
True, I didn't add the tax etc but when you do the figures look even less appealing - the taxes bring the cost up to $AUD4210 - or 2.6c per AA mile.
Value looks to be poor.
