Vinomofo Wine Deals

FWIW, mine is going to the back of the cellar (if I can physically get to the back, there are a lot of boxes in the way!).

2012 was a great vintage in Coonawarra.

I am currently sweeping around Melbourne to get some more Leconfield 2012 before everywhere goes onto the 2013. That wine is a cracker... and it drinks okay now, but she'll age very well.

Yes I agree penegal, I have a half case each of Leconfield 2010 and 2012 but would love to grab more (if it was at a good price) My St George definitely wont be touched for 5-10 years.

Merry Christmas FFers. If anyone is interested the Vinomofo secret deal for the 2012 WA Cabernet for $13.90 which gets 96 Halliday points is Hay Shed Hill, Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. It arrived as 2 boxes of 6. I opened one last night and it seemed a good wine for the price. It was quite fruity and firm tannins and would benefit from some cellaring. There is a bit of the usual Halliday exuberance in the 96 points rating but to my taste it was still a decent wine.

Merry Xmas to you also. I decided to go with the Hay Shed Hill Block 2 which is the 2011 deal for $24.75 instead :) I really don't go by JH anymore, which is why I get on here to see what the Black Market and Secret deals are so I can cross check reviews.

Thanks for the update ripsnorta. I almost bought that one thinking/hoping it might be the Castelli Estate CS but wanted to wait till someone confirmed it. I might give the $13.90 Hay Shed a miss. I'm now very tempted with the Block 2. Thanks Rocket. Let me know how it tastes when you try it.
Merry Xmas to you all.

Seeing as we don't really have a definitive AFF wine thread or area I am going to post this offer in a few places.

I am one of a growing group of people who feel Halliday has become too generous in his old age, but I still read his reviews.

Well folks, the year is nearly over and I would like to pass comment on a pair of stunners, the Maverick Twins 2012 GSM....just loved the richness, the spice, the long lasting flavour and also, the 2012 Maverick Cabernet blend. This wine is incredibly impressive as well, more full on as you'd expect, but wonderfully fruity and rich. Under a tenner each, quite a deal. I think the enormous selections have to dry up till about april i would think, then it's off again. So plenty of imbibement to be done between then and now, time to deplete the stocks a touch and save some pennies because the mof_s have a new year to work on. Lastly, unlike grays, I have not sent a single bottle back ! Thats what the slick buyers whose names start with a special K are there for. If it isn't good enough for them, it isn't good wnough for you ! Cheerio

beefarmer, I'm glad you've ended your year on a positive note as a happy mof_.
For me, not so happy with the 'Fo. I had difficulties with two deliveries in December, and I am still waiting for them to tell me when they might collect a wine that I asked to return in early December. I had some less than helpful attitude from call centre staff when I tried to get an idea of when pick up might be, the wine was at my office which closed from 23/12 - 5/1.
Unlike you I sent back about 50% of my secret deals. A bit of a downhill slide for the 'fo all round IMHO, so I'll be using much more sparingly in 2015.

That's a bit of a shame GCC....considering all the hassle of your many returns, you would have to be cautious. Very cautious. Maybe I hit the mark later on in the year when quality was in abundance. Maybe I got onto the very good ones quickly - like the Glenlofty Shiraz 2011 which I just adored and the West Oz Willoughby park shiraz 2010. These were incredible. I also picked up two cases of two different 12 pack mixers i'e'whites/reds early in December. The ones that had a rrp of 415 for 125 and the other with a rrp of 383 for 153. One of those 415'ers was a Heathcote Shelmerdine merindoc 2010 Shiraz. Nearly a seventy bucker, a taste world i normally don't inhabit, but this was a beauty. Such finesse and delicacy and I have to thank the fo for the priveledge this year. Don't worry GCC, there will be more. Furthermore, as far as returns go, i have five dozen wines from grays that they let me keep when i complained. Extremely mediocre, yet free. Cheerio.

I bought 36 cases from the Fo this past year, returned two with no issues at all. Not a bad percentage of keepers. I think I worked it out I saved around $5K from paying full retail. Some wines were not quite up to scratch but really those were 70% off Black Market Deals and I usually passed them on to family and friends so no big deal and generally worth it at the 70% discounted price. Overall I am happy with my first year with the Fo, spent too much really but also saved a tremendous amount on what I would of spent otherwise.
