"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I'm not sure if it works for BA, but I've successfully done seat selections in both J & Y for QF, AA, IB, MH, CX and QR via the QR website by going to "Manage Booking" with my OneWorld PNR and surname - even on itineraries that don't involve QR.

I've been able to book my seats also using the QR website for seat bookings on CX,QF and QR seats without any charges. I was then able to print out the itinerary with the confirmed seat numbers on all the carriers

Adding JL to the list.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I seem to be getting mixed messages about this. Is the "round the world" that is limited to 35k miles known as "oneworld® Award Classic Award".

I can't find much information on the QF website about how to book this. Just called the service center and according to them, the the 35k mile limit is for paid fares and to use the "round the world booking tool". This seems to not take into consideration miles.

So which is it? If the oneworld® Award Classic Award is what I want, how on earth do I go about booking such a beast?

Apologies if this has been covered previously. There are almost 200 pages. Happy to just be pointed in the right direction. Also to the QF website where it actually states the terms and conditions of such bookings and how many points are required. "Simpler and Fairer" isn't working for me.

It's not a paid fare. It's a OneWorld Classic Award. The Qantas staff you spoke to was obviously incompetent but that's no surprise as many of them are.

Theoretically you can book it on the website but in practice it's difficult due to numerous glitches. Be prepared to book it on the phone paying a service fee.

Thanks for the swift response and the link. Even though I know how many points thanks to this forum, QF are a disgrace for not making it easily visible (ie, I've yet to see mention of 140k, 280k etc for the various awards).

To book online, is it simply done as multi-city or using the round the world booking engine?

Multi-city. Make sure that the box at the bottom "Search Qantas and Partners Classic Awards" is checked

The Round the World booking page is for paid fares

It is NOT a RTW product. Whilst it shares many features with its paid xONEx cousin, it is just a partner award limited by miles. There is no requirement to lap the world, and it is booked like a normal award.

Daver6, another point worth clarifying is that your classic award booking will automatically become a OW classic award once the points spend for your flights exceeds 140,000 points for Y, or 280,000 points for J. There is no separately designated "OW classic award fare" because it is just one particular type of classic award booking. Points spend is capped at 140 or 280K and any further flights you add to your itinerary after that (subject to the restrictions on number of segments, number of stopovers and total Km /miles travelled) don't have any effect on the number of points.

Thank you everyone for useful and informative information. QF really should be paying you all since you are doing their job.

I wonder how close to 35,000 miles someone has actually got in terms of a booking :) Sounds like a challenge to me.

The challenge is to get all flights in J when booking these fares. My last booking sits at 34,189 miles with all 14 flights in the business cabin.

It looks like QFF has just released Business Cl award seats LAX - BNE.

They were available at 0900 today for the following dates for next October: 14,17,18, 19,20 (and not just for single seats).

There may well be more dates but I was interested only in this range.

Don't leave it too long to get them!

Do ground sectors count towards the 35k mile limit?
