Just watching the live tv cross and the gun shots just went nuts for 60 secs....

Unknown if any innocent people have been shot yet....

Looks like the Cops have raided the Cafe. Couple people got out. Couple people stretched out. Hopefully only one dead.

On foreign coverage 4 stretchers came out,at least 2 with CPR being performed.
Hopefully that is all of the casualties.

I too watched this live during a break at work and was horrified. This happened in a place I know and have frequented.T

The hostages now have to be supported and helped to recover. As for the police and other emergency services, well this incident demonstrates why we need them.

I spent the past 5 hours watching this live... Thoughts with all those involved. I'm sure we will get a lot of armchair experts like myself analysing the small bit of information we got. I will be very interested to see whose bullets inflicted what damage. I can't help but feel there were a few too many specialists involved and that ended up with an overkill amount of flashbangs and bullets based on the footage I saw to disarm one person. There was very clear video of two special force members throwing flash bangs into the cafe when 4-5 of their colleagues had already stormed the building and began firing at least 10-20 rounds. I will wait and see what the coroners report says to confirm my thoughts and see if there are improvements to make on tactical response cases.

There will be so many people who will be affected by this, including the many people who bought a recent special daily deal for coffee and chocolates and will feel that it could have been them.

Having listened to the gunman's lawyer describe the gunman as possibly thinking that he would have nothing to lose given the charges against him, his ideology and recent experiences in jail, I why they didn't go in earlier.

RIP to the 2 dead Innocent Hostages. Our thoughts are with Family and Friends at this tragic time.

So a criminal, with no particular association to any group whose ex-lawyer has said he was due to go back to prison, where he'd previously been subjected to bad things.

But his lawyer Manny Conditsis also pointed out that "His ideology is just so strong and so powerful that it clouds his vision..."

And I imagine his time in prison was similar to many who find themselves on indecent and sexual assault charges, rightly or wrongly, although I am sure his belief system added to the rough justice of the correctional institutions.

So its a bit of unbalanced person, with strong beliefs, who is absolutely convinced his beliefs allow him to do things that Australian law forbids. But seemingly not a "mainstream" terrorist attack in support of IS or similar.

I am extremely saddened by the last 24 hours. The events itself is horrifying, the deaths of two innocent people extremely unjustifiable, and I am stilll pretty shell-shocked. The most terrible part of all this is the amount of unneeded hatred that I have read on social media .... mostly targetting speficic groups of people purely because who they worship, where they were born or what they wear. The fact is, and it hurts to those haters and they know who they are, is that 99.999% of the world's population are good, very good, honest people - and the 0.0001% remainder are just complete [insert your worst and most offensive word here] who unfairly tarnish and longingly damange the good reputation for the rest of the people who practice the same faith, born in the same area or have worn similar pieces of clothing. At the end of the day, bad people will always be bad people.
