Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Prior to booking your girlfriend needs to click on the acceptance of the status credit offer first. With MASAs gone(JASAs) my son elected to use 30,000 US Air Dividend Miles and $30 US and not bother with status credits. So he travels in business class and has lounge entry for $600 ish AUD. It saved him $3,000 in real money and took 10 minutes on Skype to book a return in J between Perth and Sydney.

Thanks, cove. I will email my girlfriend that she must accept the status credit offer - before doing any booking.

I tend to agree with you about not bothering with QF status. I have explained to her about USDM, Avianca miles and status runs in the US (before QF severely enhanced their FF program), but I don't think she has taken any step to do anything about these. I emailed her the AFF links and tell her to read up etc. She said she & her husband were stuck at silver QFF for years. Then I told her about the LAN flights SYD to AKL. They did those and got themselves gold QFF last year. She & husband travel a lot - families in the US, Perth, KL, and business travel to Asia, US and Europe (all personally funded - they are doing charitable projects). They always travel in economy, to save money! I will try harder to explain things to her!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Just had a quick look and yeah it seems like SYD-MEL-HBA and return will get you there for the least amount of $$$'s. Same day returns are available for ~$1280 on most days until end of November.

And of course like Cove said, make sure you accept the offer before making the bookings.

Thanks, CaviAck and Mick1969 - much appreciated your suggestions. I will tell my girlfriend about SYD-MEL-HBA. She may not want to pay $1,300 - as she has over 250K ff points.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

To retain SG is 600 SCs. To be 210 SCs short, it means she is on 390 at the moment - not even 2/3 of the way. Not sure if it's worth spending a 4-figure sum to retain something that won't get used very much. Perhaps a QP membership might be more appropriate.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Have your girlfriend enroll in USDM (and partner). Tell her 700 ish AUD. There is a deal on now but watch out for 12 days to activate the account.

You are correct, Awesom Andy. Girlfriend currently has 390. I have emailed her about SYD-MEL-HBA for $1,300 for 240SC (including the 50% bonus). She will need to decide if it would be worth it to spend that much money to get her gold. I know she can spend twice this money £1,300 to have over 800SC for a run to Hawaii from Dublin (via the US). Hubby has booked this for next year - taking into the severely enhanced QF status credits for partner airlines :(

Hi cove, am not sure if my girlfriend has enrolled in USDM. It is the old saying "you can take a horse to the water, but you cannot force it to drink the water!" I will ask her. I have emailed her all sorts of links. I may have to write to her husband instead, because he is more interested in doing these things than my girlfriend. Sometimes they travel together, other times they travel separately for their charities.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

They could get two accounts with US DM but she may be like one of my older brothers who expects everyone to do it for him.
This may be too hard for her to save $3000 per ticket and that is what Qantas shareholders are hoping.
But then again they fly economy.
Try a price on SYD-PER-BME in Y.

I got an email from AA offering to extend the Plat status for about $USD1200 IIRC - about one week ago.

I was not interested so have deleted the email.

Is that offer available to your friend ?

Same price (almost) and no flying !

Still OWS (= SG)

I believe that offer is only useful for up to an addition 15K EQM ( or EQP?). As a result one would need to have earned at least 35K already to be useful in that manner.

serfty, I think you are right about the offer from AA.

I heard back from girlfriend in Sydney just then - after I emailed her about some options. She said she does not want to spend $1,300 to get QFF gold. With that money, she can either just buy a Qantas Club membership or buy access / use to other airport lounges on the travelling days. I tend to agree with her. Also, like cove said if she buys ff in US or Avianca and flies J or F, she can use the lounges anyway.

Not sure when next year hubby has booked this. But if you are saying that the girlfriend has 800SC's locked in for next year, then that will qualify her for gold which would go through to the end of Nov 2016. If the run to Hawaii is early next year, or in J, then I wouldn't bother trying to requalify this year. Save the money and maybe go for WP next year; especially if the 50% bonus extends into December and the start of her new year.

Sorry, i was a bit vague. My hubby's run to Hawaii is next October, to build up sc for his QF plat. For comparison, the same amount of money would get my girlfriend much more sc than the domestic itin. however, the 50% would not apply because they are not QF flights - they are aa flights.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Just a question about ORC. If you're going from 1-2-3-2-1 and IRROPS happens, as long as I can go from 1-3-1, I should be able to ask for ORC?

Yes, just keep the original booking and if possible any BPs that have been issued prior to the IRROPS.

I always take a photo of any BPs as soon as they are issued which has previously helped claim ORC.

Thanks. If my membership month is August (as noted on the top of QFF program) does the membership year runs from 1/8-31/7 and status runs from when you obtain it to the end of your current one + 12 months ?

Qantas membership runs to the end of the month of the anniversary; if it say month xx, your membership year starts from the 1st of xx+1 and runs to the last day of xx the following year. Any flight(s) taken is credited to the corresponding membership year; once you achieve a certain status, it is valid for the remainder of your membership year plus all of the following membership year (unless you move up to the next status level of course).

When you mean 1st of xx+1 you mean in my case 1st September (1st of August +1) 2014 till August 31st 2015 correct?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Still trying to work out the best options in the USA for Feb. can go north to ORD, but want to avoid the weathe/possible delays if possible. Do people still head down too the Caribbean? I haven't looked at $/SC heading south yet...

I haven't read all your posts so may have missed something but do not that the elite status benefit for FF earning applies to QF and AA flights. It once applied to BA, but since the EK tie-up, it's no more.
