Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I is upgradable - with points you need A class availability.

In theory travel with such should post as Business (using the original I fare) - however over the years I have had these post as Discount Economy, Economy (full), Business and, indeed, First. The issue seems to be the A fare bucket being used for bothe revenue fares and award (upgrade). YMMV.

Note the upgrade on point covers up to three segments in the booking. e.g. On a LONE4's I have upgraded BOS-(L ►A)-MIA, MIA-(L ►A)-xDFW-(L ►A)-SEA using the one "upgrade"; also done with LAX-(L ►A)-xORD-(L ►C)-FCO.

Excellent news :)
Thankyou

Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Planning on booking a status run this weekend. Need 40 SC's to be silver. Wanted to get any advise from you guys.

Want to take only a day and has to be ex SYD.

So far I was thinking of going to BNE, CBR or MEL.
Given I wanted to get it done in a day I think I need to get the semi flex tickets to get more SCs. I can to red e deals with stopovers but it takes longer and sometimes costs more.
So obviously trying to keep it cheep as possible.

I guess the only other real requirements are they have to be reasonable flights. Ie I looked at Tasmania but the flights were at 6am.
I also am a QC member so somewhere with a lounge would be nice.

Anyway got any better ideas or status run options? Is this a good idea to go, friends tell me im crazy? Going to HKG on QF in DEC and then DBX with EK so wanted to be up a status before these trips.

You can fly JQ824/825 max bundle to BNE. The total cost should be just under $600 IIRC, flight is not too early and short connection will see you back in SYD before 4pm.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Thanks
I had looked at JQ. But decided against it. I read somewhere points could take 6 weeks to post m don't know the reality and if it will but didn't like the sound of that.
Also they have less flights.

My plan is to fly out wait an hour or two. Then fly back. I want to have a few hours gqp between flights to account for any possible delays.
Then if I am making good time I can get an early flight back.
With JQ you can't easily do that since there are less flights.

Current thinking is to just to to cbr for a few hours.
Could probably do it in half a day.

Book a return flight on the same PNR with the minimum connection time and if there are any delays on the outward leg, you will be accommodated.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Although all the information here is invaluable I am struggling to find something viable. I am limited by dates which aren't the best but looking to start and return in either LAS or LAX between 18 and 25 Jan,so far the best I can find is around 400 SC and $1200, Any hints would be appreciated.

I think the first point of call would be to look at the entirety of this thread and then the BA TP run thread on FT.
And runs out of LA are possible just not LAX, think outside the box. US$2.11/SC runs are available out of LA, same day turns out of LA however are not available, same day turns out of the other end however are if you're willing to base yourself elsewhere.

edit: Correction - there are sub $2 runs out of LAX, but I can't seem to find any for January at the moment.

Follow up on cancelled segments midway through a SC run

Original routing: 1-2-3-4-5 (min 60-minute between segments; 3 & 4 are the same port !)

3 had a tech issue requiring disembarkation and a 2-hr wait so I decided to cancel 3-4 and keep the original segment 5 (the only alternative would have been a revised red eye 5 segment which I was not keen).

Spoke to AA from the Flagship lounge phone:

A) No ORC

B) Full credit refund for the self-cancelled flights

Hopefully it will be a data point for those who face with the same dilemma in the future.

First, I did not (or, at least I hope I did not, with reading text and interpretation being two different things and all) imply that you were being difficult or belligerent. Sorry if you felt slighted as such.

I always say the same thing about dealing with agents and especially agents in the USA, mainly because it's easy to forget when you're stressed. Besides, there's nothing worse than a USA agent who is annoyed at you, because you really will not get anywhere and could even be blackballed (not literally, but it isn't a good position to be in at all).

Apart from that, I'm probably misunderstanding how you constructed your run and how you connected to it. But if you kept the endpoint the same and the legs in between were changed, then I don't see why ORC would be an issue in a way because you are claiming an involuntary (it is in the end, you didn't want this to happen) change in itinerary due to misconnect / incident.

Hope you're back on the rails pretty soon and the credits work out some way or another. But I'm hoping someone else here can make a comment about ORC.

I thought ORC normally was organised through the FFP (viz. QF in this case), not the carrier who will "pay" the credits.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Dammed !

I was wrong then.

I did not contact QFF per se, only AA, thinking that the mileage would originate from them (despite the QFF number on the booking).

Well, next time !

At least, i got my money back and those SCs - to be honest - would have been surplus for the year (given the way bookings pan out after the initial booking).

Thanks

Even factoring in the cost of a flight to CMB, both MH and CX normally offer reasonable biz fares ex CMB.
MH CMB-KUL-SIN
CX CMB-HKG- north asia/usa

Happy wandering

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Not sure what extra comfort you could have with two J seats.

There is always the armrest / privacy barrier in between so the best you could look for is extra space to leave your headphone case which is of doubtful benefit in the best of times given the window locker.

I would not think about it TBH.

Anyone tried extreme comfort ? eg 2 comfort seats in J

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Girlfriend in Australia is short 210SCs to retain qff gold - her qff year ends 30nov. She has over 250K in qff points. She received an email from QF for 50% more SCs. Could you please suggest some itins to do this - must be QF eligible flights for 50% more status credits. I think 30nov is almost here and she may run out of time to do a run! Thanks for any suggestion.

There's time to do the run... just the price might be a bit of a problem. Where is she based out of would be a good starting point.

Thanks, CaviAck. Girlfriend is in Sydney.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm definitely a novice, but is a Sydney-Hobart(via Melbourne) return viable for 160 SC and approx $1300 an option? The bonus 50%SC would give a total 240 SC.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Prior to booking your girlfriend needs to click on the acceptance of the status credit offer first. With MASAs gone(JASAs) my son elected to use 30,000 US Air Dividend Miles and $30 US and not bother with status credits. So he travels in business class and has lounge entry for $600 ish AUD. It saved him $3,000 in real money and took 10 minutes on Skype to book a return in J between Perth and Sydney.

Just had a quick look and yeah it seems like SYD-MEL-HBA and return will get you there for the least amount of $$$'s. Same day returns are available for ~$1280 on most days until end of November.

And of course like Cove said, make sure you accept the offer before making the bookings.
