QF Boxed Dinners

Dinner for me used to be wow on the 767s.
Used to aim for those flights.
When we used to put what's termed rubbish into those oblong brown or purple papery cloth bags.

Exactly why would dinner on a 767 be any different to dinner on a 737?

If some one could have a sordid affair with a 767 or a fetish with that plane, heres looking at it me mate, pointing at myself.
Had a dinner on 767 in J ADL to MEL upgrade was the start of the relationship.
It was between 1997 and when QF stopped flying the 767 through Adelaide on a regular basis. 200x or so.
ADL to SYD in Y with dinner has also been done on the 767.

Still doesn't explain why one should expect the meal service to be necessarily inferior on the B737.

I flew many many many segments on QF 767's in the 90's and early 00's; mainly on the golden triangle.

I remember looking out from the SYD QP and hanging out for the "767 with two exit windows over the wing" to front up at the designated gate for my flight¹ - that would be to "good one" with Dreamtime (yay!) seats in business, Skyshow etc. (763 over 762)

Also flew them many times trans-tasman; points upgrades were easy between 00 and 05.

I am considering coming out to whatever lunch/function on the 27th; maybe to the airport as well.

¹ Back then there was no public information about what would operate a flight - check in was a lottery, no on-line seat selection nor seat maps, OLCI was a futuristic dream.

Qantas stopped flying the 767 to ADL on a regular basis in the last 12 months.

I've found the meals to be independent of aircraft type. But then I've also had a better Y meal on one of the Shorts flying boxes than some recent J meals. Perhaps the food quality is always better on a flying box.

QF stopped flying 767s SYD to ADL to DRW and back to ADL to SYD earlier than 12 months ago.
They might have done MEL to ADL to DRW and back, that one I didnt keep track of, but definitely the ADL to SYD leg of the 767, I have been chasing.
Que se ra se ra. The 767 will cark it, so what can I say, good bye to the old birds.
Ok, as you were.
Have to remember that in ADL, the food on the planes are now done by Alpha flight services, since QF closed down the ADL arm of QF catering.
But interstate, does QF still has its catering arm? Thought I saw a QF truck at SYDd a few weeks back.
Cost cutting.

You're right December 2012 was the last 767 I got SYD-ADL. Still that's a bit later than 200X.

I just noticed on the latest red e-mail that came out, a big bullet point below every flight offer:

Food and beverage offerings vary between flights

I believe that's called managing customer expectations :)

That's a cheeky timing to avoid dinner service
As it turns out the 5:55pm BNE-SYD flight is a dinner service.

Had the dinner box twice now. Quite tasty.

One week was some sort of curry and prosciutto with pasta which was nice. Second week was penne pasta which again was quite tasty.

So far so good and given a choice is good.

That's good news and a fair move by QF!
On the occasion you are not very hungry I recommend trying the salads. I had falafel salad and pasta salad lately and I thought both were quite good. In fact I was served falafel salad for lunch in J recently which was no better then the the one I had in Y for dinner (I'm not the one to be fooled by nice plate compared to a box) and it was smaller in size!

The one in J did look good though i have to say. It looked much better than my ham and cheese toastie actually! :D

On my most recent SYD-MEL (last Friday night), the choice was a hot vegetarian pasta or a cold ginger chicken with Japanese slaw and quinoa salad. As I have eaten in the QP, I chose the salad which was quite filling and tasty. The Lindt chocolate ball served afterwards worked a treat.

A thumbs up from me.

Flew BNE-MEL tonight and experienced the boxed dinner...I had beef ragu and spaghetti which was delicious and the red wine helped as well !!...finished off with a Lindt Chocolate...Must say a massive improvement...Mrs Pyffii had the poached chicken with potato salad and she was also very impressed...Both servings were more than adequate...Well done Qantas:):)

On a 737 eh?
Would have been nice if they had more and flew more 330s around on the Aust east coast.
I have got a Aust transcont flight later next month.
Wonder what I will get in discY O class.
I hear ice cream is still handed out on this flight types, PER - MEL/PER - SYD.

Does every thread have to be about wide body aircraft for you? You do realise that the food is the same!!!

Why bother replying to this stuff. Just filter it. I didn't want to mention that ADL had a 767 the other week to carry out the cricketers and all their gear.

Supposedly the 330s don't work on the east coast because they can't be turned around as quickly as a 767 or 737.

Ice cream is handed out on the transcon because it's part of that service offering. Not because of the aircraft.

Oh so right. The offering on a triangle route is always going to be the same whether the aircraft is a 737 or 767 or 330.

To 99.9% of people, type of plane does not matter, (piffle) but to a fat dog (me), it does.
I will miss the 767s, while the 330s will console, they (at the moment/don't know) if their numbers in QF's fleet will ever be the same as the numbers of 767s in their heyday.
Edit: never mind though, after 17 Dec, its a gone case.
