QANTAS - bibs are the answer.

"Due to overwhelming Customer Feedback, Qantas has reduced the portion offering in our world-class, Australian-first, boxed meals." That should keep the sauce off the lid-lip!

TRAPS FOR YOUNG PLAYERS

Whatever you do, don't open any boxed meal containing a sauce when the box is pointing towards you. Turn the box through 180 degrees and open it pointing toward the seat back in front ...

Perhaps the anti-reclining seat brigade could add a well aimed box opening to their coughnal?

On the 694 tonight, CSM announced that the main cabin would be served a choice of Fish Bites and Chips or Prosciutto Salad - my first introduction to the new Boxed Dinners.

I opted for the "Fish and Chips" as it was offered by the FA. An Interesting Meal.

Apologies for the quality of the photo.

The Box is served without cutlery and a single paper napkin. Included with the two strips of fish is a piece of lemon. The chips are in fact more of a potato wedge and - in this instance - quite soggy and floppy. No idea what the fish itself is but quite tasty. One of the big draw-backs is the fishy after-smell on the fingers ... after boxes were collected, another run with a lindor ball offered to each passenger.

It's going to be interesting going forward, if the non-cutlery boxes are the norm; would certainly expect this to restrict the types of meals which can be served.

Regards,

BD

My first experience with the fish & chips boxed dinner last night on a QF flight BNE > MEL.

I have to admit Immediately prior to be served the fish & chips I was intrigued as to how this would turn out with low expectations, as I imagined the fish & chips to be tasteless & soggy.

I was pleasantly surprised , the fish was quite good ( a little soggy , but overall quite passable )substituting chips with wedges was certainly a good call.... The wedges were pretty much like wedges you would get at the footy!

I have to say the Lindt chocolate ball was a winner in my eyes , especially considering the FA handed me a sneaky second chocolate prior to landing :)

Plastic cutlery was provided along with a wedge of lemon inside the box. ( a slice of lemon with fish is a Obligatory in my eyes ) :)

The FA's also informed me that whole experience of consuming the fish & chips onboard the aircraft would be "seagull free" & I'm pleased to report it was :)

I'm about to board QF 634 MEL > BNE will report back with tonight's boxed dinner offering :)

On tonight's flight the boxed dinner offering was a choice of Penne Pasta with ricotta & pumpkin for the hot option or a Thai chicken salad with Quinoa for the cold option.

On this occasion, I chose the cold option, the Thai chicken salad with Quinoa & I'll have to say it too got the thumbs up & was surprisingly tasty for a salad , yet was quite filling.

After the meal, I was expecting a Lindt ball but a little surprise was that on tonight's flight was those decadent Patons chocolate Macadamia nuts .

Yum.

The FA's were giving out seconds of the chocolate macadamia nuts quite willingly too :)

You know from top of box, you can't read what's in box.
The description is on the bottom of box.
FA had to put box above head to read contents.
Seen from my MEL to ADL flight Mon night.

Is that the leftovers from the previous flight scraped into the box? It looks awful.

how 'pretty' would you like your salad to be?? perhaps the crew should 'give it a toss' first before serving....or better still...shake the box before you open it...lol

how many people out there go to restaurants/eateries etc...and require the server/owner to list EVERY ingredient on meals that areserved??? if you are so 'adverse' to certain ingredients...dont eat out...BYO..at what point in time did the 'menu/server' description become unacceptable...the world truely has gone mad!!! and the flying public has become very 'precious'

Food for catering versus served in an eatery, is mandated to have a list of ingredients by law, complying with the law hardly makes the public precious.

Like being told at a restaurant, "CAREFUL DON'T TOUCH THE PLATE AS ITS VERY HOT!"
Or someone averse to pork finding bacon in their chicken salad...!!!
Precious? Indeed, when you see what kids at airports get away with these days. Even a 3 year old can now run riot around chasing their brother or being chased by brother.
Bah humbug! Sorry, er, what should I do? should I go out into the "general population" at CHC airport or hang around for a while more in Manaia?

NOTICE seen in the Manaia:
These product may contain pork!

12months ago it was quite common for the FAs to provide "seconds" of the wine ... especially in the Emerald City, their trolley for taking away the empties would have a limited supply of bottles on the top. I've noticed since the introduction of the "Summer Salads" this went the way of the MEL-OOL flights (disappeared ... enhanced out ....).

Has anyone noticed their return at all - and am I the only one to miss them??

BD

I'll have to say that it's certainly tastes better than it looks & was surprisingly filling for an economy meal.
Flying J back tomorrow, so won't have the opportunity to test another boxed dinner .

That picture of the salad that Cool Cat Phil posted looks very similar to what one used to get during the Xmas/NY period. Whilst the salad may not look appetising, I hope it taste better than it looks.

so what was the 'law' when our food was served in foil containers?? or those salads and desserts that were not/are not 'packaged'..(where passengers accepted their meal in the foil container or plastic 'bowl'..along with a F/A/menu brief description) AND, does the law apply to every cabin?? all of which never did/and dont have FULL ingredients listed on them...and are served (packaged) on various types of dinnerware... does the law only apply to the 'cardboard box' ?
