The truck passed the arrester bed after the police noticed the smoking brakes and high speed and were watching when he passed it. It's been widely reported he should and could have pulled into the last one but he said the truck was under control.

Police radio transcript:

“I think we’ve located it ... it’s about to pass the last arrester bed, it’s still going with very badly smoking brakes,” they told the Transport Department communications centre.

I drive down this freeway several times a month.

Ok I haven't been down that freeway for a while. However I do remember how steep it can be.

I do remember the arrester beds. Why isn't their a truck bypass? Ok if it takes them longer to get in or out of Adelaide, would it not be worth it?

There has been talk that a diversion road from Callington back up the freeway, directly to the northern distribution areas and by passing the freeway would solve the issue. But that would cost billions. We can't afford it.

As for not using arrester beds, the guy would have killed someone as the lights ahead of him changed seconds before he barrelled on through and only because the police had radioed through; and he could not stop until around a kilometre down the road which is suburbia. Maybe watch the video. I wonder how on earth a smoking rig and being 30 kilometres over the speed limit, even to someone who needs sleep would suggest they are in control. On the other hand if I presented the opposite viewpoint you'd still be disagreeing with me, just because.

Just saw a north Melbourne vet proudly announce, via Facebook, that they operated on a gold fish. I'm absolutely speechless. Not sure if it was life threatening. But they removed a tumour from its head. No idea of the cost and I get that people love their pets, but it's a goldfish!

Must be because it's a GOLDfish!

It's a great feeling finally having socks that say which foot they go on-

Just wondering if any of our resident medicos could comment please.

24 hours ago in Budapest, as about to board a train for Prague, wife dragged case across her open toe sandals, lifting the large toe nail off its bed. Some blood but stopped quite quickly.

Applied a couple of loose bandaids and foot refitted with closed runner.

Today patient reports only a little pain and can walk on it. Nail appears to have now returned to normal position on toe.

Just wondering on next course of action and whether there is some topical application to prevent infection?

Thank you.

topical application shouldn't be necessary. The entire toe nail may lift off over the coming weeks.
Any sign of redness, pain and swelling she should get it checked out.

Thank you Princess. Toe is a bit swollen, but to be expected with trauma it suffered. However, no redness and can get runner on quite easily. So we can now go and enjoy Prague rather than visit a clinic.

I owe you a chardy. I haven't had one for 2 weeks now.

As long as the socks don't go missing in the wash. We have so many lonely socks at home. Be interesting to see if there's a Left/Right trend. Sounds like a PhD topic. :p

I've ripped my big toe nail off a couple of times. Just put the nail back in place to protect against infection. Also kept it clean and dry. One time was half ripped out and of course it dropped off after a little while. Nail grew back ok.

Excellent!

Hawks ... !

To win.

The 22 point score line Port 105 to Fremantle 83 doesn't show how close the game was, play was down the Fremantle end with Fremantle 4 points down; and we scored a point; Port got the ball and then from that play scored a goal and that was it.

Fremantle should have kicked straighter in the first half and Port probably wouldn't have come back, a few ref decisions didn't go Fremantles way, and a few shots where Fremantle players decided to play on instead of giving everyone a 20 second rest to reset the play cost them the match.

Now to think about summer sports.

Looks like a classy establishment.
Wear those socks on the job and you'll never get confused about which way you should be twisting.
