re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

AA has just cancelled completely the ability to book multi-stop OneWorld awards

While they were somewhat more flexible than the QF version, they did serve the same function.

Predictions on the status of these QF awards?

Happy wandering

I had always thought they were somehow a commitment of OW membership. If AA cancel them why would the others continue?

Maybe that's the first act of a staged withdrawal from OneWorld? Wouldn't that make planning a RTW award so much harder!

Does this mean I can't book an AA flight in my 5 stop award trip that I'm half way through booking ? I'm two days off my AA seats being released.

Wouldn't think you'd have a problem. The news doesn't say you won't be able to book AA award flights through QF (presuming that's what you are doing).

Hi everyone

New to posting on the forum after reading for some a little while. I was wondering whether anyone could provide any tips on what are some good options to go return from Brisbane --> Singapore --> France/England/European airport easy to get to from Singapore. I'm planning a trip for my wife and I and have found so much useful information on the forum albeit a lot to absorb ... I have 450k points (300 on AMEX and 150QFF) and am hoping to be able to get us a business class flight across the the trip - I hope I am not dreaming!

Apologies for sounding like a complete amateur.

Lots of options in Europe/UK CP3 and the choice will depend on what your preferences are. Would I be right in assuming that you are finding the range of choices quite daunting? Perhaps you could start by telling us how long you intend this trip to be and if you intend to have a stopover in SIN. Also do you intend to just go to one city in Europe or travel around. Do you want to see churches, beaches, historical places etc ?????

And do you (or SWMBO) have a "MUST SEE" city?

Does anyone know what exactly counts as a "stopover" and what is a transfer? E.g. If I flew into Brisbane one evening then flew out the next morning as part of a oneworld award, would that use up one of my 5 allowed stopovers or would it just be a "transfer" if less than 24 hours?

Less than 24 hrs = transfer; More than 24 hrs = stopover

Transfer
I am doing exactly that in August - Sydney to Brisbane at 7.20 pm, overnight. The next morning Brisbane to Hong Kong on CX at 9.30 am. It does not count towards the 5 allowed stopovers

Thanks for the reply. You're right in that I am finding the choices daunting! I am planning on a month in Europe in September but was thinking to book the major parts of the trip first and then organising the rest - I guess if I am trying to book with points I better get in asap.

I was thinking of Paris as that is one of the must visit places for my wife (first time in Europe and all) - we're both keen on visiting the historical sites etc. A stopover in Singapore for a week before or after Europe was on the cards as we have friends there. Is that the best strategy? Book the major parts first with points so it's all locked in and then work around that?

Thanks again for the reply - greatly appreciated. :D

Paris.........good choice - will score plenty of brownie points if you take your wife there; it's a beautiful city and there's plenty of day trips to Chateaus etc too! I don't think there are OW direct flights from Singapore to Paris but you could connect via Doha easily enough or even Dubai. You haven't indicated when you intend to make this trip but obviously the further out you book generally the better the availability will be. Availability to London can be more of a problem but if you bypass there and fly into Paris you could fly with an airline like QR, which apparently has a very good J product.

First up you need to do your own "legwork" - suggest you checkout the interactive planner at oneworld.com for routes and flight schedules and start making decisions.

hi. is anyone able to help with this one.
I need two business class seats from gye to mia, but avios(ba) and Qantas advised me it looks like there is only 1 seat released on AA902 everyday (various dates show just one business seat). If I get one seat, is it likely AA will release another seat shortly after? I may just have to do it over two days and pay two booking fees.

Paris is indeed one of the must visit cities but in my experience it is also one of the more difficult to get to with OneWorld (because it is not a one world hub and seats therefore tend to be limited). It is however, quite easy to get to by train from many cities in France and surrounding countries. So be flexible with your date and routing.

As the OP said, you could look at SIN-DOH-CDG (Paris). Other options would include SIN-HKG-CDG on CX, SIN-HEL-CDG on AY, SIN-LHR-CDG (last leg could be by train direct to the CBD or BA to the airport), etc., etc. Note there is no direct oneworld flight from DXB to PAR.

May I suggest that the final route (given you are heading for Paris) may depend as much or more on what award seats are available than anything else. Think about where else you would like to go and try picking some dates; bit by bit you will narrow down the options. Good luck, JV

Hi,

Also you have asked this question in a OW thread. You have a lot of Amex MR points - you may be more easily able to get to at least SIN by transferring some of those points to Singapore Kris Flyer. Perhaps ask your question more generally by creating a new thread. You may not be limited to Qantas. Or your points may be good transferred to Asia Miles or somewhere else as well.

If you are happy flying on Malaysian (I'm not) then they have very good availability in business class. You can get to Sin via KUL and they fly from KUL to CDG every day as well.

Dale.
